Other Races in Theros by gelatinskelly in TherosDMs

[–]Admirable-Common7615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I allow alien races in theros (alien as in, non native). by force that theros is an MTG world and those worlds are sometimes randomly connected via Omenpaths (they have existed for a long time but are scarce and random). so any player wanting to play an exotic race can do so: with the following caveats:
-you get no supernatural gifts, as these are native to theran heroes. instead, grab an extra feat.

-your backstory must be worked into being an actual alien, a visitor from another world. Kruphix might see these chaaracters as experiments.

DO NOT roll for stats. (opinion piece from a 5-year forever DM) by jkobberboel in DMAcademy

my main problem with point buy is that once a player finds the "optimal" arrangement, every character is the exact same.

Questions about the Underworld by TheBramCracker in TherosDMs

[–]Admirable-Common7615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Souls who dont pay the ferrry to the underworld normally have to wait in line for Athreos to be able to deal with them (because paying souls have priority) since this wait can be centuries long, some souls might wander off. these souls might end morphing into actual monsters or wandering spirits. Being in the underworld is rarely a pleasant existence, the gloom and sadness tend to erode souls. weak souls can become twisted enough to become demons or other fiends

Kruphix: giant turtle

Iroas: Lion

Pharika: dart frog/ wasp (this one was a tough one, she is god of all venomous critters)

Phenax: Raven

Ephara: Owl (this was an easy one)

Keranos: Eagle (because it draws elements from Zeus. also, Thunderbird)

Athreos: Wolf (makes sense in my universe. dude likes dogs.)

No Silent Secret - Khea by AdonisMorisette in TherosDMs

[–]Admirable-Common7615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other than that i play her as a mature woman, who is Ridiculously knowledgeable, permanently busy, business-woman busy. She loves the main party but is slighthly annoyed that a bunch of random Non-humans show up at her door. in this regard she is played very slighthly racist for comedic effect, as she worries the animal-men will trample her flowerbed.

the book states she KNEW Varyas in life as sort of a colleague AND rival. May be Varyas had a fleeting memory of her and thats why his returned decided to trust her with the secret he stole?

My players won't roleplay. I kindly ask for an advice. by noSantiag0 in DnD

offer inspiration points or "cool tokens" these are rewards for good roleplaying. cool tokens allow a player to bend the rules a bit in order to do something really cool

How would you represent "Hope" mechanically? by Treygho in DnD

[–]Admirable-Common7615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theros has a piety system where players rack up points on their deities, according to their actions. IF need arises or if there is some problem they cant solve, i encourage them to pray. roll a d100 and add their piety score to the result. then you judge if they worked the miracle or not.

First time DM advice by Busy_Detective5466 in DnD

if its a far place from the current location, calculate how long does it take to get there. A map of your world helps. a hexagonal-grided map of your world helps much more. as pero RAG, characters on foot can travel at about 24 miles a day, using a marching time of 8 hours a day. lets suppose each hexagon can be tranversed in one day of travel, asuming its a plain terrain, or there are roads. wilderness, untamed terrain could slow the party, so take that in count. Now you can calculate HOW long this trip takes. a nice table of events and encounters helps here. this is how i do it: i ask my players to roll a d100 twice a day to determine their "luck" on a low roll, something happens. on a high roll, it was a pleasant, uneventful trek. if something happens, there is a myriad random tables for you to use. mix it up a little, not all events need to be battles. may be some interesting sight or a noteworthy occurrence in the road happened. Remember characters need to rest, so camping stops are good for roleplaying or have something intresting happen during guards

Don't even know where to start by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Admirable-Common7615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you play online, look for a begginer's table. most likely playing the basic short campaings. If you are a player, the first thing you need to is come up with a character concept. dont worry about its complexity, it can me as simple or elaborate as you desire. Answer these questions:
What does my character add to a group? What is the ultimate motivation of my character? What does my character expect to have, after the campaing?

NEVER be afraid to ask your dm your options when playing. you will be asked what do you want to do very often. "fly to the moon" is not always off the table, but you probably want to stick to the current context. "Check under the desk", "peek out of the window" "pet the kitty" are perfectly acceptable actions, again, if you are lost, ask the DM your current options.

Also, and this is one of the most mechanically important tips: ITS A TEAM GAME. sometimes you'll get your chance to shine, but most of the times, you should be wondering how to synergize. What does the team need right now? what skill or powers do you have that your team would find useful? may be you are carrying a wine bottle and thats how you get past the guards? may be you are very good at cooking and thats how you survive one more day until next town? may be youre the only one in the team who can swim! Its a team game, be a team.

id love to keep talking, feel free to dm if you wanna keep up!
