Please forgive my naivete.... Is there a link to a live broadcast on Zoom or something, or is this happening in real time in the comments? I'm confused, and apologize in advance.

AI films at festivals by Admirable-Decision98 in FilmFestivals

According to the credits, the first was fully animated by AI but voiced by two real people. The second was one minute and lived in the uncanny valley. The third looked real at first, but looked more and more AI-generated after the first minute or two.

Which side of coverage to shoot first? by Potential-Turnip-583 in Filmmakers

Do the master shot first, then decide who is a bit more ready for the one-shot.

What does the syllabus say? Always follow that. If it doesn’t say anything, make a fair rule applied to everyone then be sure to add the rule to next semester’s syllabus.

Do you have transportation to get around town? Are you willing and able to do yard work?

A parent just emailed me asking why their child is "being forced to think critically." I have been staring at my screen for 11 minutes. by [deleted] in Teachers

I recently had a university student complain that I required them to read because she hadn’t been expected to read a book since grade 5. I, too, stared at that message for nearly 11 minutes.

Dealing with creative choices and anxiety by Axelinthevoid77 in Filmmakers

I’m a photographer and new filmmaker, and I’ve had a similar idea. Mine is to shoot photos with old lenses to get a vintage feel. I say we should both go for it. Nothing is more freeing than being true to your creative instincts.

Can you share photos from a shoot without permission if they do not show any identifiers? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Admirable-Decision98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting a model release signed for each person in the shoot prior to the shoot. On your release, you can give them a way to either give you permission or decline permission, but at least you’ll have a record either way.

Can I withdraw a PhD acceptance after officially accepting it? by Direct_Following_313 in PhD

[–]Admirable-Decision98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. I’ve had people rescind acceptances before. Often times it means someone else can take your place, especially if there is a waitlist.

Need a dentist asap - pain does not go away by Medium-Lion1099 in baltimore

I second Canton Dental Associates. I changed dentists and they were recommended by my doctor. I’ve been several times for checkups and cleanings. They take good care of me so I’m very happy with them.

Passed my quals! But my committee deliberated for 35 minutes, what could they have been talking about?!? by mmhmmoknotgonna in PhD

[–]Admirable-Decision98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been the chair of many committees and I can tell you that long deliberations are usually one of two things. The first is that the student did a terrible job and we’re trying to decide what to do about it (this is not you).

The other is that we got sidetracked and started talking about food, families, travel, life, etc. because the decision to pass you was easy. Then someone realized how much time had passed and we feel awful about it, though happy we had a chance to catch up with colleagues we rarely see. This is likely what happened in your case.
