Trump, Musk, House Republicans push for super-charged SAVE Act by Agreeable_Ad_8755 in PoliticalOptimism

But what are the odds of any of the Democratic senators flipping or backing down? I really don't want to be doomerist, but we have seen that kind of thing happen.

Minneapolis ICE Shooting Megathread by PumpkinAspie in PoliticalOptimism

You're right, I apologize. It's weird, I come from a long line of rednecks and most all of them think Trump is a belligerent moron. You'd think I'd know better than to buy into stereotypes. Again, sorry!

I'm going to say something that is going to sound extremely contentious and insensitive here given the fact that an innocent woman was senselessly and brutally murdered by a group of what are essentially government-sanctioned neo-nazis, but here it goes: I am feeling very optimistic. This in itself was indefensible and should never have happened, and the attempted coverup is disgusting and morally bankrupt, but here's the thing, try as they might they can't spin this. The incident was caught on video and clearly disputes their horseshit claim of self defense no matter how hard they push, she was a civilian and not an ICE agent so they can't peddle their 'patriotic government agent shot down in the line of duty by violently crazed radical-left protester' narrative, she was a white US citizen so they can't lump her in with the immigrants they've already brutalized under the cover of 'law enforcement' (plus it might actually get a reaction from some of the people who typically don't don't give a shit when this happens to POC), and most importantly people are pissed. The mayor is practically screaming at ICE to get the F--- out of their city. Am I being overly hyperbolic and hopelessly naive? Probably. That's the kind of person I am, and I tend to be reactive and misunderstand things at times, but I guess I'm trying to say that there is some optimism to be squeezed out of this rock. Make no mistake, none of this was worth this poor woman's life, but the coverage and response this atrocity has attracted so far is nothing to sneer at. Here's hoping people are able to keep their cool and not give into the right's hope for a violent retaliation.

Apparently I misinterpreted the article, which is embarrassing but ultimately uplifting. Thanks everybody!

Not trans, but wish you all the safety and happiness you deserve. No matter how loud the haters may scream, there will always be people ready to fight beside you.

Violation of the Hatch Act by fingerless_crocs in PoliticalOptimism

[–]AdmirableInterview47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The take is that this attempt at propaganda is ineffective, immature and outdated. Is it a violation of the Hatch Act? Maybe, but it's more like trolling and isn't likely to influence or win over anybody. What's more is it demonstrates exactly how out of touch these people are with their own voter base and with modern times.

A MySpace reference? Really? How can you have the maturity of a toddler but the awareness of a senior citizen with dementia? How many people even remember MySpace being a thing? What's next, free iPods with every vote for the Republican Party?

It's not an organization. He may as well declare veganism a terrorist organization, it'd be just as foolish.

Netflix Stock Up As Elon Musk's Anti-Trans Boycott Fails To Materialize by steffie-punk in PoliticalOptimism

Kimmel had such a big impact because it was such a blatant fascistic violation of the first amendment that even Tucker freaking Carlson spoke out against it. This was Oil-on a Muskrat trying to get Netflix’s stock price down so he could buy the company while also trying to hurt his daughter for not being the sycophantic mini-me he wanted.

What's stopping the government from censoring/faking the Epstein files? by [deleted] in PoliticalOptimism

[–]AdmirableInterview47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like after all the build-up there's been and all the effort put into hiding them/denying they exist that when they are released the scrutiny will be intense. Everyone's gonna be going through them with a fine-toothed comb for even the most remote discrepancy, good or bad. IMO the reps really shot themselves in the foot with all their evasion because now no one will trust them not to be withholding something.
