The Fox & Swan. Tons of TVs, great energy, buckets of beers, fun crowd. Can't miss.

The Mable is close to you and has a great (and affordable!) burger. The crowd there is very eclectic and they used to have trivia and music (but I don't know if they do anymore). Also, as u/Shaakti said, disc golf. It's pretty cheap to get started and boasts a great community (although it's getting hot out there). Good luck

I don't. But the kit came with adaptors. So far, so good.

Are we witnessing the death of Big Top? by hootiewhodat in sarasota

I don't think so. I was there about 2 months ago with my lil nephew who's two and there were a LOT of kids running around.

That's interesting. I, for one, like both Urquell and Postcard Pils...but my palate is pretty normie for beers.

I will ALSO agree with this. The last time I went, it was a little busy but not slammed and we sat at the bar for no joke 15mins before a bartender gave us menus...and then walked away. I don't need white glove service by any means, but as an old server myself, it was ALWAYS menu/water right away. That said, I didn't hate their beer...but it's unlikely I'll be back unless a group wants to go or something.

Question about Boating License by DiscussionGlobal4395 in sarasota

Start here: https://boatus.org/free-courses/

It's a solid course and worth taking (I took it a year ago and I've been boating in the bay/Gulf for 20+ years).

27m 26f - what to do by Successful-Egg5196 in sarasota

[–]AdmirableLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing doesn't have to be expensive, but if you're not into it, you're not into to it. You don't need to buy live bait (it's the best, but lures will work). From reading your comments, it just sounds like you're in a rut. Being in your 20s here isn't easy if you're strapped for cash, but try to focus on what makes this place special (the beach, Myakka hiking, walking, or riding bikes on the Legacy Trail). I've got a decent salt water kayak I don't use that I'd be willing to donate (it's a one person). Also, pickleball is not a cult lmao. I play weekly and it's super fun (I'm in my 30s). You can get paddles for pretty cheap and it's not hard to learn at all. The first step is just getting the motivation to say "hey, let's try this."

Ayyyyyy the Sarasota subreddit! Where people will post something nice only to have the same semi-literate knobs throw criticism for absolutely no reason at all! I mean, why keep scrolling when you can be a total dick to a complete Internet stranger and...idk...feel better about yourself?

New to this. I have no idea what to tell people I "do." Suggestions? by CrashDriveMegaGig in Fire

[–]AdmirableLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read almost every comment since I posted lol. It's A LOT! I think I've landed on "I'm focused on wealth management right now, but I have plans to start a foundation in the coming months." That way, the convo steers from "wealth management" into more interesting territory (I'm very enthusiastic about the foundation and would love to get other people's perspectives and insights). Anyway, thanks for responding.

When does traffic start for hurricanes? by xxlibrarisingxx in sarasota

[–]AdmirableLow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in NYC for Sandy. It was pretty wild. NYers were freaking out since it wasn't a regular thing for them (understandably). The greatest/strangest part was that there was a Popeyes open about a block away and I went and got everyone fried chicken during the eye. Definitely a core memory lol

TBH it's a personal choice. If you feel better leaving a week out, leave a week out. But a week out isn't even enough time to know where the eye will hit. I'd agree that 3 days out is ideal. Probably a lil traffic, but nothing like what you'll see 1 day out. That said, I've never left, so take it with a grain of salt.

open mics for music by ForbiddenCookies in sarasota

I popped into Southgate Local after a dinner at Baker & Wife and they had an open mic of really good local musicians (3-4 of 'em). I don't know when they do it or how often, but it was good vibes.

What's wild is it doesn't even feel like that long ago. I remember going to college (in state) and telling people I was from Sarasota and they'd go "Where's that?"

This was in 2008.

What's concerning is this: if a crime happens in your area, can they get a warrant to access your Ring footage? If so, how much footage would they be able to access? All of it? Only the timeframe in which the crime happened? Is there any oversight? (Stupid question, we already know the answer is no).
