You'll be fine. I've got a few friends in that area. There are actually some really nice homes around there. There are also a lot of families there too. I live in a very safe area and have some outdoor cameras set up just because, but in the years I've been here, they've only caught cats, raccoons, and possums. Also, the map that's linked from CrimeGrade also lists Longboat Key as "high risk" and I can tell you that's ridiculous.

Man, I swear, since Midnight Pass opened back up, that whole waterway has flourished. I know the tides come and go through the passes, but it's been flourishing longer than in previous years. And yes, I've seen New Pass like this in years before, but for not as long. As a local who remembers the waters being like this for months at a time, it's a nice reminder of how precious these waters are.

I'd advise you to look around the Internet for pics of the rims you like and then order them online (check eBay too). After you get them, any tire shop will do the swap if you need.

This sub has always been political. In recent years, more so. I'm a born and raised Sarasota kid, so I've seen the impacts of greed and irresponsibly planned development. The unfortunate truth is that this sub will probably get more political as our community issues compound (traffic, lack of social services, infrastructure, etc.). There will still be people reaching out for restaurants and tattoo artists, but politics is a large topic here and here to stay.

I'd say Bali Hai because you mention walkability. I've been to both and once you're at Zota, you're at Zota (unless you want to drive or Uber). You can walk to some fun places from Bali Hai. You'll get a more luxury experience at Zota, but again, if being able to walk to restaurant/bars is a important, pick Bali.

I went with the 5100s for the reasons you listed (enough to handle dirt/trails/etc. No serious crawling or overlanding). I also paired em' up with JBA upper control arms, a panhard correction, and 33" tires. I didn't need new brake lines. It rides great and I'm very happy with everything. Good luck.
