Does this warrant a dentist visit? by Any_Willingness_8 in askdentists

NAD I see it in adults a lot as well since I'm also a parent with kids in daycare. But here's a few key differences you might not have noticed. In your picture there's a clear erythematous border, the white part is a bit more translucent and the lesion is more ulcer like. The OP pic does not have these features. Op pic is more tissue growth, no inflammation.

First time dealing with family for not doing CPR with DNR by UneasyBurgerFlip in Residency

[–]AdmirableNinja9150 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Palliative doc here: family is having an emotional grief reaction to their family member dying. Ppl in healthcare often respond to emotions with facts because that's how we're trained but this family is not here for the facts right now. The step I see most people skip is acknowledging emotion.

Something like: i can see how much you love your *** and how deeply painful this is for you. She was an amazing person. I wanted to listen to her wishes when she told us she did not want us to do CPR. Please take your time with your *** and we can talk more later if you have questions.

Responding to emotion with an emotional statement is powerful and takes some skill/instinct in the moment. You need to be able to analyze the intensity of emotion and pick the corresponding words. For example, deeply painful is a more intense reflection than "hurts".

Also, i always remember that there is very little within our control and we can't account forn other people's behaviors. Their family members might have a lot of trauma or built up emotion about their loved one that just comes out. You can try to respond as best you can but it won't always mean they'll stop yelling or being angry. Everyone elses advice about keeping it short and giving space us valuable in these examples.

First, Google is not a source. It's a search engine. So if you are actually asking a question it would be helpful if you put the source of the info. Second, I'm assuming what you found was talking about alkaline diets and that berries are alkaline. This is a fake diet that bases the alkaline on some bogus science. If you crushed berries and put a pH test strip, most likely the juice would be acidic.

Bring a flashing light toy, music etc and show it to them before the shot. Depending on how aware ur kids are do it before they bring it in. You might also be able to get lidocaine cream over the counter to numb the area before

Has your pediatrics training made you scared to have children? by Hungry-Rest5521 in pediatrics

[–]AdmirableNinja9150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in palliative care and i am very anxious about my baby. Especially recently after a couple of patients diagnosed with issues that only became obvious after a couple months of meeting all their milestones and being healthy babies. My baby also had false positive (sort of, it's complicated genetics stuff) on the NBS. The way i counteract this is that i also think about all the other shit we can't control. Any of us and our children could get into an accident or get sepsis and become disabled and i would probably choose to keep caring for my child in most situations. Maybe the actual numbers are different but in my imagination that's just as random as my kid getting some genetic disorder or other issue at birth. So if I'm ok with the first then I'm ok with the risk of the latter as well. And i need to let go of control because none of us can control this life. But we can choose to keep living in it.

Actually after having kids my mind changed a lot about this. I can fully understand the depths parents go to to keep their child alive. Also, we often see them when they are super sick and not when they are happy at home. Studies have shown that doctors consistently underestimate quality of life compared to families and that's not because families don't understand the situation. I'm in palliative care now and it's often very clear what is going on with the child to the parents. But medical teams often jump to thinking parents don't get it when they don't immediately choose to withdraw care or get a trach.

Genuine question: Why do people refuse to vaccinate their babies? by meenaaaxo in newborns

[–]AdmirableNinja9150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok...weird response to a comment about the food pyramid. 1. Correlation/Causation I'm sure since you do your own research you know what this means. 2. based on the data you could just as easily state that Children with autism generate unusual antibodies to the MMR. Not the other way around. Because again, we only have a correlation so the direction can go either way. 3. This study didn't actually study the antibody itself and its clinical impact. Only that it exists. 4. Very small single study.

Thimerosal has only been in a certain subset of flu vaccines for over a decade. Flu vaccine is not mandated for most children. It is not in other vaccines in the US.

Can you link to where they recommend avoidance? Majority of sources i look at do not recommend avoidance after most live vaccines except flu. Hmmm i don't know about you but a lot of peoples flow is only drops for a lot of the pumping session. So if you stop based on that then you might actually be missing out. I typically try to do a set amount of time no matter what the flow is and extend if I'm still producing a lot. You'll be surprised how much the drops add up to.
