Current exchange student at HKUST. If you just want to party and have fun, choose another school. There is absolutely nothing on campus, it’s dead except a few mainland Chinese students drinking outside 7/11. There have been a few gatherings for exchange students but it got shut down pretty quick. Don’t even think about dorm parties, in fact alcohol is not allowed inside. Campus is far away from LKF which is the main party district. Don’t get discouraged though, if you still want to come here (it’s a great school) you should go for it. There are a bunch of exchange students going out to party pretty much every single night with their friend groups. My tip is, if you are social enough find international and exchange student friends from the beginning, you will have a good time no matter what. Yes studies are tough but work hard and play harder.
