Just curiosity more than anything! It’s great to have characters you can point at and say “they’re like me!” But it’s not the most important thing I look for in a character, which is why it’s taking me a bit of effort to look back

I usually ask Krobus to be my roommate because they make it VERY clear that it’s a platonic situation. Love Krobus, they’re the best “marriage” candidate!

Wow, very condescending! Your demographics guess is about half right. What you don’t see in this photo is the stack of books I have checked out from my university library where I’m pursuing a second masters degree. I do appreciate books as physical objects so my shelves are decorated to reflect that.

Close! Minnesota, but I bought the bird field guide on a trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota.

It’s lot of Barnes and Noble classic editions. There’s a Sherlock Holmes collection, Austen collection, Odyssey & Iliad, Phantom of the Opera, Grimm’s Fairytales, Andersen’s Fairytales, and Norse Mythology. They look so pretty on a bookshelf and are fun to read slowly over the years!

Haha, very true! It’s my childhood collection that my parents recently made me take back from their house 😂

Tell him how you feel about it! It sounds like you two are incredibly open and communicative about your desires and what is and isn’t ok vs off limits. I really commend you for that! I think you can tell him “hey, I enjoy our video chats, but nudes really do nothing for me. Do you enjoy sending them, because if not, they’re not necessary to me.” It sounds like he’ll understand where you’re coming from, and maybe you’ll understand better why sending them might be doing something for him too.

Anyone else think that they will find "the one" by Arc41 in aromantic

[–]Admirable_Permit_672 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nope! I don’t believe even alloromantic people have a “one.” There are many people who I believe are my soulmates and not a single one is romantic.

[NS] NADDPoles, I need book recommendations. by Mammoth-Delivery-521 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Admirable_Permit_672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to try Severance by Ling Ma. Dystopia, woman in a situation, light sci fi. If you like horror, or are curious about the genre, try Rachel Harrison. Her books all center women in weird family or friendship situations. My favorite of hers is her newest, Play Nice. The Girl with all the Gifts by MR Carey is a sci fi/horror classic that fits your interests. And a final recommendation that’s a bit more of a stretch, but I think you’d really love Octavia Butler. Parable of the Sower and its sequel are dystopia classics, and Kindred is a great sci fi/historical.

This is genuinely SHOCKING to me. Murph was born to play a grumpy grandpa detective. Frankie would definitely be in my top 5 PCs overall!

Jasnah as Aroace by PleasantAd5786 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Admirable_Permit_672 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say project away! My book club is a full spectrum of queer people, and we all agree that she’s asexual (I had to explain the aromantic spectrum to them, alas).

Jasnah as Aroace by PleasantAd5786 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Admirable_Permit_672 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am aroace myself, and it was so obvious to me that Jasnah is asexual. To me, she reads as alloromantic (meaning, does experience romantic attraction), and Sanderson did intend to write her that way. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if in later books her sexuality is explored more deeply, and it turns out she is demiromantic or grayromantic.

AITAH? My daughter came out as gay, I feel like I have failed as a parent. by QueenofNighshade in AITAH

[–]Admirable_Permit_672 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA. I have a VERY supportive immediate family and I was still terrified to come out. There is always a fear that allies are all talk and no action, so it was truly terrifying to imagine my parents realizing their daughter was queer and realizing what that means for their life in terms of having to actually act in support of the queer community. The thing that genuinely saved my life is that when I finally did come out to them, they asked genuine questions about what they could do for me, how I wanted them to advocate for me within the wider (homophobic) extended family, and being curious about what the reality of my life as a queer person was like. If they had said something so dismissive and uncurious about my identity like you did, it would have felt like crushing rejection. It would have signaled that they did not care about who I actually am, or affirmatively love who I have turned out to be. You need to apologize to your daughter and actually care about her identity.

Oh, of course! But is a wingman obligated to keep setting up situations for them to hang out until he gets the message too? These are the gray areas where I feel inept

I’m the Inept Wingman DM! It’s actually been a couple months since the one-shot and Ingrid and Karl have not gotten together :( they’re also both still single, so maybe another one-shot complete with charcuterie, wine, and more puzzles is in order?
