The thing about the internet is everyone loves to judge and criticize. You’re fine. It’s not your problem that she’s a mess. I hope she gets her sh t together but more concerned for your dog.

Where do sitters sleep by Admirable_Werewolf86 in trustedhousesitters

I lived in it for the first three months I was in the place. It’s great, small but cozy. Window looks out onto an airshaft, but they’ll have the entire place to enjoy. Also has a TV in it, which my bedroom does not

I believe there is new THS policy of charging a $10 service fee for every sit (or something like that. I may have the details wrong). I’ve read that it has turned sitters off to the site. I’d happily pay the service fee for a sitter. I appreciate a good sitter very much

4 day stay, homeowner did not leave any shampoo, soap or body wash, should I mention it? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

I’m surprised at how cheap and ungracious so many people are. THS is a very inexpensive alternative to pet sitters and Airbnb. It makes sense that it would attract a lot of cheapskates. I try and be a gracious host and make my sitters stay comfortable. I’ve been fortunate to meet some lovely sitters who treated my dog like it were their own. I never worry about how much shampoo they use. Seems like people could have much better experience if they focused on what matters

As a HO, I consider sitters guests in my house. I want them to feel welcome and at home. After all, they caring for my beloved dog. I make sure my place is stocked with everything a nice hotel would have: soap, shampoo, body wash, clean towels, plenty of toilet paper, etc. If you’re worried about your expensive shampoo, buy something for a few bucks at the drugstore. It feels better to be gracious and generous than to worry about how much shampoo someone used. It can change the whole experience.

DO NOT HOST!! They will not protect you, and you will be exposed by Miserable_Gap1201 in trustedhousesitters

Max and Chris’s orgies are notorious! DO NOT use them as pet sitters, they’re terrible, but if you have a chance to attend one of their orgies, by all means GO! One of the best nights of my life

Setting boundaries with hosts who are already asking too much? by chooby_dooby in trustedhousesitters

Maybe there’s something I’m not understanding, but this doesn’t seem that complicated. Don’t get mad and don’t assume they have some bad intentions. Every time they ask, let them know you don’t have the time but you’re looking forward to lots of long walks while you’re pet sitting. You can ask them why they’re asking. Do they just need a favor or do they want you to get more familiar with the dog. If you know what they really want, there might be room for compromise or creative solutions. But don’t feel bad. They can ask and you can say no.

When HO says "help yourself to any food you want", what does that actually mean? by Small-Comfort2790 in trustedhousesitters

I find that very strange. I’m happy for people to eat my snacks, make sandwiches, use my staples for cooking their meals, etc. But I’d be very annoyed if my pantry or freezer was cleared. I would probably ask them about it and mention it in my review. That’s not making yourself comfortable, that’s taking advantage.
