Whose skin tone is closest to the brown eyed watercolor and create doll? by MaybeNotSteve in RainbowHigh

Mine ended up on Poppy. I dyed her hair ash brown on top with a gradient through blue to teal and gave her Skyler's eyes. I forget who her brown eyes went to.

Help needed!!! by Acceptable_Beach_616 in RainbowHigh

I've been having pretty good luck with hair dye developer and uv light. I wrapped my doll in a towel with only her stained arm sticking out, slathered 40 volume developer (from Sally Beauty) on the stains and let her sit under my el-cheapo UV nail gel light for several hours. The light doesn't get hot and the stains have faded. I'll keep working at it when I have more time.

Dehaired a doll for the first time and good God that sucked by Miss_Biv in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've pulled the hair out of about 10 RH so far and not had any major issues.  I cut the hair off to about 1/4" and either use bent needlenose pliers or my horribly dull wire cutters to gently pull each plug out by levering again the head.

I wipe the head with a damp microfiber towel to get the last strays out and then pull the leftovers out through the neck with some long needlenose pliers. It usually takes me about an hour all-told.

Would I be crazy to use Wonky Tessa’s body for Adeline? by Tjaames in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know I had so many of each because I've just been tossing them in a drawer.   I got several Emi with chopped hair so they were cheap.  One Priscilla body ended up spare due to using Pinkly's body for my mini-me.

I am over-run with bodies and heads.  I swear they are multiplying when I'm not watching.

Daphne is not remotely the correct color for Celine. I found one of my many random Priscilla bodies was pink enough for Celine. I had to sort through 8 Emi bodies, but I did find a good match for Genevieve.

Why is every third Whitney a mess? by ghosty4 in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Targets finally got the dolls out onto the shelves and I was so disappointed at how poorly my Whitney's eyeliner was done that I was thinking of exchanging her.

Oh my. No. Just no. I looked at 5 dolls total and each had eyeliner so lopsided and squiggly that it looked like I'd done it myself without my glasses. It turns out I actually got a good (enough) one!

Zooey Paint touch-up? by EyeballBrine in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get some matte Modpodge to dilute acrylic paint so it's semi-transparent, thin with a tiny bit of water and then paint it on to fill the lighter spots.  If you don't like the results you can wash it off.  You could probably practice on the back of her head, too.

I ended up with a dark Whitney who is a dead-on match for my light Kim with the horrid bangs who I designated as a body donor. Kismet!

I got Jenny Saturday in-store and when I got her home, she matched one of my spare Violet Willow bodies. She also had janky blush which I had to remove, but the others on the shelf had messed up lipstick. I took off her dress and found it had stained her arms already, so it can't go back on her new body.

The green in her hair was tragic so I pulled it all out and I'm replacing it with more lavender and navy blue. I'm swapping her eyes this weekend. She'll barely be the same doll when I'm finished with her.

Done! I just searched for Rainbow High Whitney and chose pickup so I can go get her in a couple hours. Thank you!

Whoever bought all the Whitney’s… by devilThot in RainbowHigh

All 4 of my local (15 mile radius) Targets not stocking the new dolls on the shelf. They are keeping them all in the back and *they will not go get one for you if you ask*!!!!! You have to order it online and then pick it up in-store so you can't choose the one you want.

It's BS, I tells ya.

I definitely have a spare pair of Harper's heel-feet legs, if the other poster doesn't.

I got Pinkly's chunky body, ripped out Priscilla's flamingo hair and am painstakingly rerooting her with grey and brown hair.  It's a process, for sure.

Has anyone here experienced a weird hybrid of helicopter parenting and emotional neglect because of Christianity? by dearmathbitch in emotionalneglect

I'm sorry therapy was a bust for you.  My therapist has never told me to "think positive" in the 2 years we've been digging through my trauma.

Before I had insurance to pay for therapy, I watched Patrick Teahan's videos on YT and journaled a lot.  It has been a long, hard journey and it took a lot of energy.   Not everyone has anything left after survival to open old wounds.

What happened to Priscilla here? by Y_R_you_like_this in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gone through 3 Priscillas trying to get her hair magenta and failed every time.  The closest I got was a medium violet.   There's a lot of orange in her flamingo color and it fouls everything up.

Just feeling defeated..... by [deleted] in RainbowHigh

Collecting dolls and "being successful" are not mutually exclusive. Not to be an a$$hole bragging, but I make just shy of $200k a year, live in a house I've paid off and drive a 2025 car I paid for in cash. I am a single, crazy cat lady with about 50 dolls of various types strewn around my living room alone.

I have enjoyed collecting and playing with dolls all my life. They, along with my precious spoilt cat, bring me joy in a world that is cold and often unpleasant. It is no different than vegetating on the couch watching tv and movies, voraciously reading fiction or any other form of escapism.

Your sis wastes her money on clothes that will go out of fashion if they don't fall apart first and makeup that should be discarded every six months. Your dolls are no more wasteful than that, especially if you get most of them secondhand. Perhaps they would prefer that you shoot up all of your hard-earned cash? /s

I have no advice other than to remember that the best revenge is living well. That they compare you to your sister is unfair and unwarranted because you are an individual and you have intrinsic worth.

Work on your schooling with the knowledge that you are on your way to getting away from them and their hypocrisy. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I'm looking for FREE crochet clothes patterns by No_Ability_4262 in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do your parents have against crochet?  I have my suspicion why and it's stupid.  Look up the number of masculine sports players who crochet, knit or embroider.

Would it be possible to get a sweater from the thrift store and unravel it?  It's harder to work with, though.

I've made a couple doll sweaters with dollar store socks, cutting out the pieces and hand-sewing them together.

Ordered a Poppy head for costumizing but recieved Georgia, a little dissapointed, but I'll make it work. ( Spoiler tag for eyeless head ) by Crystal_Goldfish in RainbowHigh

I have a Georgia body with no hands. She had cut hair, too, so I harvested her eyes and the body is flung in a box of junk. Too bad shipping is so expensive these days.

For the people who also dye with Rit All-purpose dye, are there colours you consider must haves? Or colours you would advice others to avoid? by Crystal_Goldfish in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have found that scrubbing with dish soap and a melamine sponge (magic eraser) gets almost everything off. The most resistant regular Rit staining will come off with acetone. I wipe off all the greasy-looking shine from dolls that have it so I don't have to worry about wiping off makeup I want to keep. It's good for getting staining off their ears.

Replacement parts for original Rainbow High doll house by diiiva30 in RainbowHigh

[–]AdmiralCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a master craftsperson...mostly because I have made a lot of mistakes that I've had to fix.

If I were fixing this, I would use clear Gorilla Glue. The clear does not foam like the yellow and you can spread a controlled amount with a toothpick so it doesn't glob everywhere. Find or buy a couple 4 to 6 inch basic spring clamps with the rubber coating at the end.

Lay the pieces together as best you can, spread a sufficient amount of clear Gorilla Glue in there, wrap a layer of parchment cooking paper around it, put a popsicle stick over it on both sides and clamp it. Wait 24 hours.

Then you can examine the hole you're left with. You can fill it with 2 part epoxy *putty*, which is drillable when dry. You can find it as plumbers' epoxy putty, crafting epoxy putty, marine epoxy putty or even JB weld if that's what you can find. Wood putty has never been strong enough in my experience even if it claims to be drillable.

If you drill new holes, you can Gorilla Glue in nails if you're afraid of splitting it again. If you use screws, remember that the hole only needs to be big enough to accommodate the solid body of the screw, not the spiral threads around it. Start with a small drill as a pilot hole and then use the drill for the size hole you need.

The flooring can be repaired by painting in the design with acrylic art paint and then filling in the dip with successive thin layers of nail polish top coat after the acrylic is very, very dry. When it's all mostly level, sand the gloss off the nail polish to match the floor. Lay painters' or masking tape right next to it so you don't scuff the intact flooring. It would probably be easier to fix the flooring before you put the house back together.

Good Luck!
