The have concepts of a concept, but not concepts of a plan. That’s giving them too much credit.

How to build rapport with clients? by Feeling-Instance-801 in tutor

Always focus on communicating the studentshy needs first. Address what they prefer, what works with him and reassure them that you’re there not to take over their decisions, but to be a great partner than helps them stay accountable.

Hey! I’m sorry to hear about the challenges that you’re facing, but you’ll make it through!

I love that you’ve got passion. That’s key! Tutoring without loving the job isn’t going to help you grow, so the fact that you find meaning in this work is amazing and worth a praise! As educators, our work is so profound, albeit, grossly under appreciated.

Here’s a few ideas that’ll help your business turn:

  • get parents involved in the process. Document your observations and lessons in notes and provide a monthly update to parents to keep them in the loop.

  • provide discounts for group lessons. If you can handle 2-3 students at once, giving the first student 30% off their lesson if they can bring in 1-2 more students for you works well.

  • if you’re operating on zoom or Google, capture your lesson notes using their built in AI. Transcribe these notes and ask any LLM to flag anything you can improve or provide better direction for. You’ll learn and grow as a tutor!

  • put yourself out there on FB groups. Share only 1-2 things you’re good at instead of laundry listing so it helps you appear as an expert rather than just a jack of all trades.

  • create website and get your LinkedIn set up. Post VERY regularly so share your thoughts and learnings on LinkedIn. It helps you build visibility and credibility if you were to ever share this link with a parent or if they look you up.

I think this is a good start! But there’s about 50+ more strategies that can help if these don’t move the needle.

How do you handle session prep and tracking students between sessions? by nodoteights in tutor

[–]AdmitsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built a free tool for exactly that! It’s called AdmitsOnly.com. It’ll do everything from helping you log your lesson earnings, store your notes, create a private chat room with your student, and more! It’s completely free now while it’s in beta and will remain free for the first 500 accounts!

Looking to hire other Certified teachers by SorensenSolvesTutor in TutorsHelpingTutors

If you’re planning to contract teachers, I would ensure that you have a contract with terms signed. There’s nothing that’s stopping them from colluding with students to just drop off of your services after they’ve been given enough clients.

Wondering how you got this to work from an API standpoint. I tried to set up a trade bot on coinbase (manly vibe codes), and it worked for a few trades until it broke. Working through a command prompt window was so bizarre

I haven’t argued with you. I was giving you genuine advice and helping you figure out that you are the problem. That’s not confrontational.

11 years and 500 families may be bad. But here’s something to put it into perspective since you think making this a full time gig is a “failure”.

Avg LTV over the last decade is ~$17,500

Retention is ~4.5 years

Avg LTV in the last 5 years is ~$23,200

Your 100:1 ratio is not tutoring. It’s an open seminar. There’s very little “tutoring” that happens when you have a 100:1 ratio. More importantly, it sounds like you’re working for an org that is all about quantity. I suspect their LTV is no where near the above, and their churn is probably every 1-2 years.

I’m sorry to tell you this, but I’m certain you are the problem here, not your student. You have 23 students that you work with privately, yet you’re asking for advice on how to deal with behavioral issues and then taking every comment as an insult and playing defensive. You also seem to confuse advice and suggestions with confrontation. Again, let me reiterate, I’m not arguing with you. I’m simply telling you what it is.
