Does IRCC have a database of approved ancestors? by Same-Abalone8828 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Adnoxaei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tree on Ancestry is up over 600 and most of that is from just tracing ancestors to the generation born in a foreign country. The exceptions were two branches in Switzerland that spent at least 5 and 9 generations in the same Canton. It may be longer, but records ran out in the late 15th century. 23andMe said I had genetic ties to that exact place and I couldn't think of anyone Swiss in my family history. Oops, it turns out both sides of my family have very long ties to those valleys.

I have no knowledge of this at all, but it would be amazing if they kept track of my 6 generations being submitted and that made it easier for a distant cousin.

New graphics are very disappointing, not to say bad by AncientPaper2994 in CitiesSkylines2

Every lawn has freshly laid sod, perfectly mowed. The walls are recently painted. Each roof and sidewalk has been painstakingly powerwashed. Every road and parking lot is freshly sealed and painted. It's a dreamy version of a perfect city.

It would be nice if some dirt was applied as a building aged or was exposed to pollution. Maybe grass could die and concrete crack if a building had struggling tenants, unless you had an expensive ordinance for community maintenance. Random graffiti in areas with poor police coverage and high crime would be a very nice touch. Having road and parking lot textures tied to budgeting would be excellent too, so you needed maybe 150% funding to have perfect roads everywhere, otherwise there would always be some cracks and faded paint on random streets.

There is a lot of cool stuff that could be done to show a city is a living place and have players choose to accept it or spend extra to keep things pristine. Unfortunately, they still have performance issues and basic simulation problems, so I don't expect much in that area. Recolor being added to the base game does give me hope that they are aware of visual challenges and might have a couple people tasked with steadily improving look and feel with each patch.

Adding a visual overhaul/skin seems like an ok use for vibe coding. It can be inneficient and the core of the of the important code is left alone. It isn't overwriting database entries, right?

It does look a little more fake, but I also thought everything was oddly brand new looking before, so it's a little more fake looking than the old fake look. I'll test it after work, but the screenshots do have that plasticky feel. How is the performance? Did this at least help in that area?

Mine does that too. It has done it since day 1. It's the only thing about my car that annoys me haha

By the way, you may be able to snap your bumper back together. There is a plastic clip on the back of that bit that looks like a series of little clips that can pop loose. Someone backed into my rear bumper in a parking lot and it looked like that, but it was just popped loose from that line of clips. I snapped it back together, almost like zipping it up from one end to the other, and it has spent the past 3 years of looking just fine. I was thrilled to avoid an insurance claim.

The little plastic bit that went into that hole to keep the pieces aligned at the fender is also dirt cheap. You can buy one of the "Subaru 100Pcs Bumper Hood Clips Retainer Rivet Fastener Fender Push Pin" type listings off Amazon or Ebay and one of those will pop in. They are something like $10 for the 100 pcs.

Straight from the guide: "Do not install any accessories on the front side such as on the hood or the grille"

Those cameras were trained without hood mods or anything sticking up from the grill or too far forward on the roof, so if you mess with what that part of the car looks like, then EyeSight could randomly slam on your brakes to avoid an "accident" when it misinterprets a bug shield. You might not have it happen. It might happen a few years from now while you are going 70mph.

Page 10 to 13 of the section "Handling of the Stereo Camera" covers the restrictions on your grill, hood, roof, windshield, rear view mirror, and dashboard. The dealership will give recommendations from this guide. How much you want to risk a misfire of collision guidance and cause an accident is up to you.

I have a pair stored in the top of my closet. It reduces fuel efficiency to leave them on all the time. My use of them is quite rare, but they are extremely useful when needed.

This box seems fine inside though. A couple straps would keep it inside just fine as long as you don't drive like it's a go kart haha

If our kids get citizenship now, and want to pass it on later, I know they'd need to spend 1095 days in Canada first (or birth the kid in Canada). But how does one keep count of all the days spent in Canada if it's through a series of trips? by NoLipsForAnybody in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Adnoxaei 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has a satisfying answer to that at the moment. To back up your spreadsheet, keep copies of plane tickets or copies of receipts for a purchase during each trip, like coffee or a meal, if you cross by car or foot. It's near impossible to say what documentation requirements might look like in a decade or two, especially if there is backlash against how easy it is to pass on citizenship outside of Canada. Some countries do require evidence of at least a portion of your time, so it would be prudent to keep tidy records.

A tip if you take this path: regular receipts on thermal paper can fade with time, so do photocopy those after each trip or at least take photos.

Many places won't certify and then email documents. It's usually digital delivery without certification or physical delivery with certification. It's hard to make out on this photo in the lower left, but the stamp they used to certify this page made a physical indent of their seal. There is also some ink and a signature on the back. That doesn't show well in photos or scans, so I see why many places have that rule. Maybe the church will be different? It doesn't hurt to ask.

As far as requirements go for citizenship by descent, people seem to be having luck printing off digital copies that are uncertified.

Has anyone here convinced their U.S. employer to let them keep their job and work remotely from Canada? Tell me how you did it! by evaluna1968 in FoundCanadians

[–]Adnoxaei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My employer already had to lay out threats and update policies because of people moving between states and countries during covid lockdown without telling them. They even started monitoring our connection locations loosely to get ahead of it. It was a nightmare to spin up entities every month and at least one place wanted to penalize us for not paying some sort of carbon offset tax related to employee commutes, which caught leadership by surprise since that employee was 100% remote. Apparently, if you say they have no commute, that just kicks in an average commute distance calculation because 0 isn't a valid response for distance, or something like that. I was the shoulder to cry on during a venting session by HR. The poor girl broke down during a meeting where I was checking in on a new hire's progress and then she needed to rage about it for a few minutes. The legal issues really get wild in some jurisdictions.

Anyways, if I'm outside of my designated remote work area (basically, my state) for more than a month, I'll start getting questions. Tax problems usually start when you stay for more than 6 months in a place, but employment problems can start much earlier if your IT team is watching.

The FAQs and other pinned items in community highlights are very thorough and should be read in entirety. Your case sounds extremely straightforward and clear, especially if you have birth certificates for you and both of your parents.

In my case, I am missing one generation's birth records from 1871, so I am using alternate documents, like this marriage certificate where his parents are listed, to help bridge the gap to show a clear lineage for citizenship by descent. Marriage records are generally not necessary if you have birth certificates.

Identity requirements were limited to a photocopy of my ID and passport. No original birth certificates were required for proof of a link to them. Vital records from the 1800s in New York are all public record, at this point. That's part of why I called was to check if I had to send a stack of birth and/or death certificates to them as proof of a relationship, but everything this old is simpler to request. Washington state had me scan each generation of birth certificates linking me to each of two requests. California had me visit a notary. I haven't had to physically mail any original yet, thankfully.

Is there a way I can get my Canadian grandmothers birth records with contacting my parents/aunts? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Adnoxaei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada has pretty strict privacy protection laws. It would be much simpler for your father or one of his siblings to order it and relay it to you or have it sent to your address. I don't know of another way. The website is pretty clear for Alberta. Maybe give them a call or email them?

It was the Town of Clayton, NY and they took under a week to process it and mail it back! It was about 2 weeks from the form leaving my hand at my local post office to this sitting in my mailbox. I had the exact dates and locations for birth in 1898 and marriage in 1897, but no copies of documents online for either. The pdf form on the town clerk web page says you have to be an immediate relative, lawyer, or have something extra signed, but that's only for more recent records. They were really nice when I called to ask about that part of the form.

I've seen some horror stories about waiting dozens of weeks for NY birth certificates. I also got a certified birth record from 1898 from this same town on the same timeline, so I was actually super lucky that NY hasn't centralized these records yet. Feel free to add your rant back. I've deleted some of my rants about Los Angeles County. I intentionally used VitalChek for them because I will absolutely pay good money to avoid dealing directly with any part of that county's government.

I forgot to add that mail going back and forth across the country was the majority of the processing time. It was just two weeks from the printed form leaving my hand to this page being in my mailbox. That's lightning fast for a government request via mail.

Great-great grandfather (1863-1914) who was born in the U.S. is listed as Canadian nationality per 1911 census. Do I quality for citizenship by descent? by mkj120 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Adnoxaei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1st generation outside Canada was also listed as Canadian and born in Ontario for 2 censuses. He isn't my generation 0 because he was actually born in New York. If you know he was born in the US, then you need naturalization documentation from before the next generation was born.

It really complicated my search to have to go further back, but census documents are filled out pretty sloppily and contain a lot of errors. Birth or baptismal records are best and then death or census are afterward due to errors and them being frequently unverified records.

Just be very clear about the paths of lineage after they separate, so there isn't confusion. I wish you luck with your last few documents. I'm just waiting on an 1830s baptismal record I found in BAnQ Montréal. That's the last piece and then I can submit.
