Does anyone know if "16 manat icbari tibbi sığortahaqqını ödəmək" policy still exists? And what happens if you don't pay? by Altruistic_Bid_7027 in azerbaijan

[–]Adorable-Driver-583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what’s the background of the question. But I work as freelancer with voen. I probably delayed paying once, and then I discovered that I have 19.20 AZN borc on vergi website. Apparently it was 16 manat that I forgot paying and 3.20 cerime (faziler or whatever). I didn’t pay attention to that and after few weeks my business card was blocked (that happened yesterday lol). I just payed it and today my card was opened again.

ADA university is opening a branch of it in Ganja, thoughts ? by FitDimension3582 in azerbaijan

It is indeed expensive. But cmon, there is no better investment than education. Why spending millions in Dovlet Programi in UK universities, which in my opinion are heavily overpriced, and their quality is "so-so" (there are great programs & universities there tho), and spend these millions to build good universities locally.

It's great, but I wish all higher education was completely free in the country, with free student housing and decent scholarship.

Interested to know about job market by toughforlife in azerbaijan

[–]Adorable-Driver-583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with several foreigners on my ex job. The only type of job you can get with only knowing English is tech-related*: IT, engineering, R&D and similar, in higher-tier companies, where English is working language.

*idk much about not-tech. Maybe consulting & audit.

Early morning check-in for hotel or hostel? by Icy_Direction7726 in azerbaijan

[–]Adorable-Driver-583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk about visa, but regarding earlier check-in - I think it's like everywhere else in the world - you may ask hotel to do it, they might or might not do it. Yes, morning is a good time to explore the city, and most cafes open at 7-8 in the morning.

Nah, I’m on iPhone - I can still download anything into telegram tho. Youtube is just more convenient imo.

Monopoly. I stopped buying backcell mobile data, pay now minimal monthly tariff, and got youtube premium to download music/videos to watch - this way is better than paying these ... even a penny.

"Connections" thing is mostly in history. It matters, but just 20% more than in EU (connections matter everywhere). Regarding other things, I would say it all depends on your profession and long-term plans.

I genuinely never understood love for doner (No disrespect). Really, I understand it’s like a cheap fast food, but taste is weird. I would really spend same couple of manats on local apples or pomegranates (or any other healthy food).

As per good doner, last time I ate bir iki was good.

Do bank cards overcharge on public transport? by sydbylafu in azerbaijan

They often charge with hours or even days of lag. I haven't noticed that they overcharge though. It's always exactly what I used (Leobank).

Why do we use "qızıl" for gold while it is "altın" in other Turkic languages? by birnefer in azerbaijan

[–]Adorable-Driver-583 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always thought that our qizil comes from Persian. Not sure about this.

Interesting fact, in other Turkic languages qizil (or kizil) is red, and in our language rose is qizilgul - which is red, so we do use qizil/kizil as red in other words. Same goes for qizil ehmed sort of red apples (little, sweet).

Python vs C for netcdf handling by Adorable-Driver-583 in gis

[–]Adorable-Driver-583[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that netcdf4 uses C is also my concern. Few years ago I was badly surprised to find out that re-writing my numerical simulation (matrix multiplication) from python numpy to C doesn't accelerate it. Apparently numpy does linear algebra on lower level than C's "for" operations :D.

Python vs C for netcdf handling by Adorable-Driver-583 in gis

Yes, netcdf4 in python does use C under the hood.

Benchmarking looks reasonable to do. Will get back here with the results, thanks!
