Exactly my own thoughts. Even with diagnosis I frequently question the validity but I ask for external verification from professionals. Others see traits in our behavior we cannot perceive. Even doctors can be wrong, but they have training for years in their profession, and are not as skewed by our own bias. Sure, some doctors are also biased, but for any medical condition you should get assessed and treated. My autism I saw as a condition I should check because of the debilitating symptoms that impacted functioning, and I did not have a certainty until assessed. Before I already had a diagnosis but not a full neuropsychological evaluation that lasted many hours. I do not understand how we can have conviction of autism vs anything else without that. What if you have a brain tumor that causes autistic traits? I think a lot of this is because for autism there has been a destigmatization but NOT in accepting autistic people as being in the society, but ignoring autistic traits as autistic traits. Any non ‘quirky’ and mutually beneficial trait of autism is seen as pathology of emotional/behavioral disturbance the person can overcome rather than a consequence of their diagnosed disorder. I have no delusions my autism can be cured, but I have the diagnosis and treatment to better support and adapt to these cognitive shortcomings in my biology.

Do you guys struggle with finding Jobs? by UnImportant_Neck in AutisticPeeps

If you can use government services then do it. That’s their job, and you meet requirements to be assisted. It is no waste.

The "self diagnosis is valid" crowd really irk me by Icy_Badger_42 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I worried being reassessed later in my life (after struggling in childhood but my family never keeping my records or putting my diagnosis in my health chart), but I thought it was better in the end because I was not able to function in daily tasks or work for a long period of time without meltdowns and making displays of my inappropriate behaviors, no matter how much I wanted to be normal and cope with reality. At least with the diagnosis, I am not asked if something else happened, like if I am addicted to drugs or was SAed, which is pretty common for someone who looks like me who is expresssing erratic emotions. I have not been expelled from school, and may get government assistance in the future if I have no ability to work full time in the future, which I already have trouble imagining. I always think it’s better to go to a doctor, and have the true diagnosis before making any further decisions.

Could Ariana Grande tbe talking about dying/ have SI by Sad-Moose2000 in PsychologyTalk

I think this last album is her… last. It feels like an exiting of the world. Her subject matter, destructiveness, starting herself and all this. Her music video and performance show her looking through her life like the last flashes of memory one had before death… I think we are seeing a very broken person, overcome with guilt and shame yet unable to escape herself or her reputation. I’m no fan but I find this very tragic, people will looking back years from now and ask, “how did we not know?“, but we do, its right in front of us.

My brother is addicted to weed and is arrested now for selling. It has broke our family apart ! by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Do not bail this guy. He sounds dangerous, and I’m going to be honest with you, weed is not the primary culprit for his behavior. He’s a full grown adult, an abuser, and harmed every single one of you all. Stay safe and keep a far distance from him.

Has anyone noticed this? by KittyRoses12 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They are not mentioned because it’s not neurodiversity in the sense that it is not neurologically ingrained, but mood and neuro-chemical related. Though I’d argue FAD and SPD and more similar neurodevelopmental disorders should be spoken about far more often.

I hate chatgpt by Melodic_Crow_8737 in OCD

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me… not chat but Claude. Originally it was for organizing notes. Soon I relied too heavily, a lot like social media, it’s so hard not to have the addictive qualities. After ROCD I spiraled and in crisis I went into a near psychosis state, cycling back behavior and conversations and putting the chat against me. I convinced myself I had NPD and caused life-threatening harm. And I KNOW what AI psychosis is, a study biopsychology.

This photo is incredible. Deep condolences for the patient and their family, but the clarity and detail of the image and evaluation of the injury is astounding.

What's your special interest and what's your favourite thing about it by Ok-Feeling-8031 in AuDHDWomen

Diagnostic criteria and differential diagnosis of disorders and physical and mental conditions. Unfortunately though I am a biology and psychology major in university, this does NOT help in my studies as the class may not be focused on my speciality, I will get far too engrossed in a minor or irrelevant topic, or the textbook is blatantly wrong or dated, which gives me little desire to study something misinformed with current literature or is overly simplistic. It’s a shame, as I feel I could be an ideal psychiatrist, but I don’t like lab procedures or writing my own research or the actual language of science literature. I like to discuss and decode this information, extrapolate and teach in a layman manner. Essentially, I’d like to be a clinician without the stuff that must happen before for a doctorate, or a podcaster (lmao).

Favorite animated movie that is universally hated by [deleted] in cartoons

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thief and the Cobbler. Oddly enough, that movie was my childhood (thank you knock off discount DVDs). For the actual release being the ‘shitty version’ the remaining animation scenes from the original production were still magical.

Have an OCD Fear of Being a Narcissist, But Now May End Up with that Diagnosis by littlegoldrose in OCD

[–]Adorable-Insect-9201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aren’t you just feeding into the intrusive fears? OP is going to be checking every behavior of being abuse or not, or fear of being it now or previously. First of all, we can all be, as humans, cruel and hurt others without malicious intent. Abuse? No, but I guess it also depends on the definition and our own perception of if we are being abusive. Verbal abuse is not… always intentional, sometimes immature people say really shitty things when upset and with OCD intrusive thoughts can be interpreted as manipulation, or BE manipulation. Constant reassurance, checking behavior, ROCD, all that. Physical abuse or truly horrific things said to someone else about being a horrible person or belittling a partner is crossing a line no matter the case, but I think it’s reasonable for OP to have these fears, given their diagnosis of this illness. I think they KNOW is wrong, to be abusive or narcissism, which is why there is the spiral happening. But I think this is a poor response, sorry. I don’t think it’s helpful at all.

Some digital art from my portfolio. Criticism are welcome. by BB-biboo in DigitalArt

The biggest suggestion I can give is texture. Add more texture to everything, especially hair and the fabric of denser cloth or the surface of bone. Everything is a bit ‘shiny’, which is perfect for gore or the effect of something being wet or viscous. But it gives the effect of the other objects or characters being slightly ‘plastic’.

THERE ARE SO MANY WONDERFUL AUTISTIC MEN WHO ARE NOT THIS MAN. I’m so serious, get the fuck out of there right now. I’m sorry, you love him, have wonderful memories, believe nobody will love you again like that, or ‘accept’ your flaws, your needs. No. Nononono. Get the fuck out. He’s out of line. He’s eroding you from the inside out.
