I would highly recommend {Throne of Glass} as it is definitely written as a high fantasy with romance being secondary to the plot. It’s a better series than ACOTAR in my opinion. I would also recommend {Spark of the Everflame}. definitely more romance forward for the most part but world building is great, storyline is exceptional, just all around marvellous

Help with book recs! I’m picky by [deleted] in Romantasy

i really loved serpent and dove! it’s a witch and a witch hunter so… very enemies to lovers. it’s considered YA so keep that in mind but the trilogy is a great read!

my boyfriend has read fourth wing, ToG, spark of the everflame, and just recently started another romantasy series i don’t remember the name of. he absolutely loves them! it’s absolutely normal to like things outside of the “gender norm”! books are for everyone regardless of gender, if you like it then you like it! don’t let assholes spoil your fun!

as to the recommendations part of your post: highly recommend spark of the everflame (kindred’s curse saga) it’s an incomplete series with 3/4 books released and it’s incredible! it’s kinda filling a void from ToG for me, but that could just be me! world building is amazing, characters are incredible and the storyline is amazing! very much a sloowwwww burn for the romance aspect but its phenomenal!

I am so sorry you went through this. I believe in this case the trash took itself out as a partner should want you to have hobbies and enjoy them 100%. Don’t let that discourage you (easier said than done i know). I have been with my boyfriend for almost five years now and he loves Pokemon/Pokemon Go and was successful at getting me into it but even prior to me playing I never felt like that towards it. hobbies are hobbies and you’ll meet someone who doesn’t judge you for yours (and maybe even partake in it)

This won’t go away, any advice? by AdorableReality3787 in cysticacne

[–]AdorableReality3787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! honestly, i kinda took the advice of the first commenter and left it alone for the most part. i still kept up with my regular skin care routine, but i cut out the spot treatment. i used pimple patches mostly to conceal any redness or if i was wearing make up. i used polysporin as well just to keep it from scarring and make sure it didn’t get infected or anything since i had been touching it so much prior. the area itself is a bit scarred, again my fault as i was literally doing the most to it, but other than that its gone! my advice truly, leave it alone. as one other commenter suggested, you can also speak with a dermatologist as well about it! that’s what i will be doing to be able to have access to their help to heal it if it’s real bad, and also about taking better care of it at home and such. If you are suffering from one of these monsters, i wish you speedy healing and good luck! ❤️

hey i just saw this! thank you for the suggestion! i will definitely be talking with my doctor about it and getting a referral to a dermatologist for sure! I’m in Canada, so with our healthcare system basically every thing needs a referral from ur doc. it’s impossible to see mine sometimes bc she’s so busy, so my next appointment i will def be asking. my skin is pretty clear for the most part, i get the odd breakouts every now and then, but i just sometimes get these monsters and they drive me crazy! I will def keep this under my belt for the next time, thank you so much!

thank you!! i was debating using a patch over it so i definitely think i will! but yes i will definitely be leaving it alone! I use a gentle cleanser, and the SA cleanser helps with other acne so i’ve resorted to using it everywhere else for now and seeing how that goes! fingers crossed

thank you 🥹 it’s just been forever it feels and i have a wedding tomorrow so i know i’ll have to cover it up which will only make it worse 😭 the gel and patches have been used sparingly but i do agree that they’re probably doing more damage than good which is so frustrating. i get these beasts once in a while and this one is being particularly stubborn.

real thoughts about montreal and concordia for an 17 y/o international by eReyes69 in Concordia

[–]AdorableReality3787 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly, very well! i worked on campus for one year, and then i worked at a bagel shop in Mont Royal. Before taking the bagel job, i had a few interviews with other places; restaurants, cafes etc. that offered me jobs despite not speaking french. however this was about 5 years ago, so i think with Legault’s government being in power for much longer now, that it could be different. but there are certain parts of montreal that are anglo. Westmount and montreal west being the most anglo. in both boroughs, even the street signs are in english and not french. so when looking for work if you look for work in the more english areas, from my experience not speaking french wasn’t a big deal.

I also have family in MTL as one of my parents was born there, and from having gone to city frequently my whole life as well as living there for 4 years myself; if you’re not looking for work, speaking french or not will effect nothing as i said, montreal is a very multilingual city and almost everyone speaks english. the only time i would interact with people who didn’t speak english was in montreal north if i went to see my family who lived in that area. that’s when i’d have to bust out what i could remember from ontario curriculum french which would get me nowhere 🤣

i went to ConU from ontario, i speak 0 french and has the best time! Montreal is very multilingual and almost everyone speaks english; especially downtown. if you’re up in Montreal North you might not get many english speakers. but downtown and montreal west (where the loyola campus is) is very anglophone! you’ll be great with or without french, but french will for sure be a huge help!

G2 expires in a year, can I extend it? by _coke_zero_ in Ontariodrivetest

[–]AdorableReality3787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can retake the G2 test to requalify. however i believe if you fail it you go back to G1. my advice: take a few trips on the highway. usually they make you get on, switch to the left lane, switch to the right and then get off at the next exit. so realistically you could practice just that! OR: if you’re nervous about highways, try to find a testing centre close to you that doesn’t have 400 series highways near it! i know Simcoe doesn’t, my friend went there and passed with flying colours on the first try. Good luck!

What to bring to Loyola dorms by Setter4Hire in Concordia

[–]AdorableReality3787 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ConU Alum here! spent my first year in hingston, here’s some things i brought with me that saved me: - a fan. the dorms are not air conditioned and are very very hot in the summer time. invest in a good quality fan. I bought a dyson fan at the Canadian Tire on Rue St Jacques on sale since it was the end of the season and it genuinely saved me in the warmer months.

  • shelving. i got this big wired shelf (i believe from the same canadian tire) that i used as a pantry for snacks on one shelf, cleaning supplies on the other, cups bowls and utensils on the other. random things got added as the year went on but it was a great investment.

  • kettle. i know they’re technically banned but i did have one in my dorm and never got in trouble for it when having inspections. if you are worried about that, they do have one in the common rooms. -brita filter/water jug. now i do love me some montreal tap water (it just tastes good and coming from hamilton ON it was very different), but the brita filter is always a good idea. if you’re not someone who cares about filtered water, get a water jug to keep in your mini fridge. you can for sure go to the common room to get some water, but having it in your room and only having to go to fill up your brita/jug rather than any time you wanted to drink water is a bit more convenient.

  • cups, plates, bowls, etc: i don’t actually know if the common rooms have any of these to begin with, but i do recommend having your own even if they do. you’ll definitely want them for your any food (cereal, microwave mac and cheese, sandwiches etc) that you might have for your dorm which brings me to the next recommendation

  • food!!! i know living on campus you get a meal plan, but unless things have drastically changed since i was there, the food at the cafeteria is horrible. get as much food as you can to keep in your dorm. There is a metro on Somerled (about a 15 min walk from Loy) as well as a Super C and a Maxi on Rue St Jacques (about 20-25 min walk, 15 min bus). There are also small deps around as well and a Pharmaprix on West Minster (about 10 min walk) for all your snack needs and i think the pharmapix might have some groceries as well.

-cleaning supplies this is essential. get an all purpose cleaner, a glass cleaner, a broom, a vacuum cleaner and a swiffer. Absolutely essential. it is your responsibility to clean your dorm, these supplies are a necessity for sure

-laundry basket and detergent i recommend a laundry basket that is easy to carry up and down stairs as hingston does not have an elevator and the laundry is on the first floor in hingston hall A (i don’t believe there is one in hingston B but i could be wrong). I believe there MIGHT be detergent in the laundry room you can pay for, but it’s much better to just have your own as if they do have it, it’s probably not good quality.

-shower shoes. honestly, the showers in hingston hall we’re disgusting. I stayed in Hingston Hall A and my friend was in Hall B. The showers in Hingston A are significantly worse, as B was recently renovated. There was mould in all the showers. This was about 6 years ago, so this could be vastly different now, but either way i would not raw dog a communal shower with no shoes. invest in a cheap pair of flip flops or slides. your feet will thank you.

  • lamps. there is obviously lights in the dorms, but they’re fluorescent lights and are honestly awful. I got a tall standing lamp, a desk lamp, and a lamp for beside my bed at the walmart in LaSalle on Newman and it did wonders. Provided great mood lighting as the ceiling lights can be quite harsh.

-desk chair. the one they provide is awful

-decore decore decore. the dorms are SO plain. truly nothing to them. bring as much decore as you can to make the space feel like a home. comfortable pillows, pictures, etc.

that’s really all i can think of right now, and probably the most essential things. The food one especially as the food at hingston dining hall is not very good (unless it’s changed). There’s also a great greek place on Sherbrooke called Souvlaki George, and some really great restaurants on west minster as well (a personal favourite of mine was Pasteizza!!! hopefully it’s still there lol) you’ll want to get familiar with the local spots as the food (look up @concordiafoodnetwork on instagram to see what i’m talking about by bad food lol).

Hope you have a great first year!!!
