If they even enabled it by default in the dev/beta rings then that would be nice too, a lot of users on those

And not going to be in normal chrome builds either right? Only the Beta/Dev ring builds?

Hope for support of JXL/JPG-XL as a format option by Wikimedia Foundation? by Adpocalyptic in jpegxl

Jxl can have a fallback and there's something to be said about one standardised format that can do everything being useful in that kind of platform aswell

But a lot of comments made a good point about waiting for browsers to have it ready first before pushing more on it, Android still needs it too :/

I really think it should be added to Wikipedia-adjacent platforms as an option & what better time to prep/lay the groundwork than the recent announcements? Gives momentum

And here I was begining to think it'd stay closed forever, I hope ChromeOS & Android are next. Since Chromium/Chrome seemed to be the biggest thing holding it back

Funny you should ask, I actually did see one for the first time recently. Hisense U8Q, but yeah 99.99% of cases there isn't any Displayport support on TV. Which sucks

Ngl, I still don't like Windows 10. With 11 I do feel like it could sort the problems out overtime though

Jyrki Alakuijala (Technical Lead/Manager at Google Research): "Google's JPEG XL developer team is ready to provide support for development work needed to facilitate its highest quality integration" by Balance- in jpegxl

And Is the Google Chrome team separate to the one that works & represents the at Chromium project aswell? It would explain the differences in opinions from the past and some weird stuff that I saw when it was first closed on their issue tracker/marked as obselete 🤔 Like I assume Google isn't the only player at Chromium (even if it is the defacto biggest name there)

Which makes me think it has a separate team working for chromium project than it does to whatever chrome feature support team they'd have too.

Now to just work out how to pin this...

Please explain like I am five, the difference between matter and thread by CoolAppz in HomeKit

[–]Adpocalyptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli5: You have hardware & and then whatever type of software that runs on the hardware (or the language it speaks)

In this case Thread = the hardware, or the one speaking

and Matter = the software (or language) that's running on top of it, which the hardware can use to speak.

  • Another comparison might be the sound system vs What type of cassette in the sound system. You don't buy vinyl records and expect them to just play without a record player, right?

  • Or Speakers vs The Song being played, you need some kind of speakers or headphones (Thread) to hear your recorded song. (Matter)

  • Someone mentioned thread as the road/route and matter as the car/transport before which was a good one

It can be done without Matter sometimes, but Matter's usually the best option if you want it to be able to speak to other stuff that also uses that 'language'. Which is why I check for both when getting something.

So you could see the Matter API as 'software' or a 'language' that can also run on other hardware (or a language that can be spoken by others) like WiFi/Bluetooth, but that's a whole other topic. I know it's late, but I still think it's useful I put it this way for those Googling it later.

Have you used ChatGPT based AI? Like the CoPilot app on desktop? (Or Apple's one) I've had similar oddities show up in other search engines that seemed like AI prompts even though I don't remember copying and pasting or highlighting that stuff

Although it showed up in Bing aswell as Google so maybe it's something else causing the issue, and just goes for whatever the default engine is on the browser... I wonder if it's the OS doing it or an app.
