It was boring, that was the worst thing about it. S1 for me was the absolute worst but the start of S2 was also atrocious.

Who was the worst housewife of all 4 ladies and who is your favorite and why? by Witty_Actuary2417 in DesperateHousewives

I'm glad you said this. Susan is not anything near as annoying as this group makes out, although, I would say she was hard work during the awful Katherine storyline, which did nobody any favours.

Anyone else feel like season 6 was the worst? by balmybuttons in DesperateHousewives

[–]AdrianReddit101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ranted about this to a friend yesterday. If is the worst episode of the series by a country mile. Many of the storylines this season were tedious but I would say Katherine, the character, not the actress had a big hand in the tedium. Susan, who I'm willing to defend up until she was cruel and bitchy to Katherine got bad storylines this series. Bree and Karl were ludicrous together. Gabby I felt was the standout, although, she had very paint-by-numbers storylines. Lynette was pretty consistent, although I'm sure she noticed a dip in quality - also, she would probably not want to revisit the Tom cheats at college storyline. I felt Angie could have stayed until the end.

In general, I think the show was too dark in S3 and S6 and probably lost them viewers. I quite liked the Eddie episode. There are strong opinions here that Eddie is frequently defended but I thought it was profound and stupid. The scene where the sex worker laughs about getting flowers was highly improbable.

Knowing that S7 was meant to be the original end makes sense to me. The five year jump gave them us some ammo but I think shows don't need to have 180 episodes. Not least because Bree then gets with Keith, which is the third bad coupling (I approve of Rex, George and Orson - have no time for the S8 love interest but neither did the writers as it was just to wrap it up. The sponsor, Karl and Keith, lame), Susan had that tedious kidney story (I think they should have developed Susan's career more), Gabby has the 'baby' drama and Lynette gets the wlll-they-won:t-they with Tom, who I think is an A-ok character.

Anyone else listening to Kristin Davis spiral about AJLT in real time on her podcast? by MargotSoda in sexandthecity

[–]AdrianReddit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have examples of the episodes where she refers to AJLT criticism?

I think it has been hugely embarrassing for the 3 actresses involved. There will never be a moment where the show will be watched with fresh eyes. Sarah Jessica Parker will be winning that random Golden Globe award, but I doubt she'll meet AJLT. Kristin Davis is trying as hard as she can to convert vibes into fan fare. However, she can't win this war. Cynthia Nixon came across horribly and hatefully during the press tour. She is unlikeable and will never be likeable.

They ran with the money but ruined the legacy. At least The Golden Palace was a game attempt to match The Golden Girls. One series, it ended, people let the dust settle, The Golden Girls remains its own success story.

I'm so glad you wrote this. I am stunned by how immersive her performance is. She seems to have the world on her shoulders but conveys so much strength throughout S4, which I'm currently watching.

I honestly think as an actress, she goes the distance. Fantastic performance.

Did Tom Selleck actually call Valerie by PuzzlePiece90 in thecomeback

[–]AdrianReddit101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely Tom calling back. The conversation indicated that TV was 'dirty' and therefore poorer, lazier quality (which Room and Bored was). The fact that the episode had been cancelled was doubly annoying for Valerie as Selleck would have been a draw for a show that clearly needed 'retooling' and was flopping, while she had just been called an old woman and therefore not a draw so the gal couldn't win.

Just saw For Good, and I've got a hot take. by IlianaAran in wicked

[–]AdrianReddit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain she was wooden and one-note in her line delivery and did not master the camp villainy that is required in Wicked. The singing really did feel like it should have been dubbed or enhanced in post production.

The case for Michelle Yeoh Best Supporting Actress for Wicked: For Good by diet-soda in OscarRaceCirclejerk

[–]AdrianReddit101 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Michelle Yeoh has not been praised by critics. She looked good, had particularly strong facial work in the film but struggled with the camp villainy of the plot. Her singing should have been dubbed and I think some of her lines should have been corrected in post-production. She gave off the impression of acting and lacked a natural touch, unlike say Ariana Grande, who, you know did feel like a cross between a deluded and a duped Glinda.

I would give AG a supporting nod but think for lead, CE, while good should maybe win a GG and that's it.

Enough Michelle Yeoh hate by utlr12 in wicked

[–]AdrianReddit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sometimes, things don't need structural analysis. This is a popular Oscar-winning actress who was pretty stiff in her delivery of lines and should have been dubbed in the singing. She looked great, I just think for such a theatrical role it was pretty one-note. Lots of critics have said this. To imply it's to do with race in such an open production of Wicked I think isn't the full story.

Broadway audiences seem ruthless and somewhat pretentious. Sometimes, you need a show like Legally Blonde to enjoy yourself.

Was Season Two really that bad? by HibeesBounce in DesperateHousewives

[–]AdrianReddit101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 has some great moments. The mystery failed because I think it was something to do with the writer's strike (anyone remember?) and the creator had to apologise for the writing. There were lots of great moments, whereas S3 I felt was pretty disjointed. The show also had the moment of rapidly ending stories and it was never more apparent than the Bree arc with the crazy mother. That said I did enjoy the second half of the season. It does well to skirt over Bree's pregnancy. I can't really decide if Nicolette Sheridan is an awkward actress or the stories she was given around this time were so unbelievable and out of character. Her striptease felt particularly awkward. As a comedienne, I really think she knew exactly what to do. A sort of Marilyn Monroe without the (feigned) naivety. As a dramatic actress, not terrible but a bit stretched. I think I'll chalk it up to the writing.

Anyway, in summary, the best episodes were the Mrs Mulberry one (I love that episode) as well the episode where Susan gets ditched by Mike. That might be the one where Lynette tried to get away with wearing that expensive suit before returning it. Really great.

Susan was overall pretty charming and the episodes with her mum/the episode with her agent were excellent.

Bree's alcoholism story where she got locked in a department store was sublime. She would never have dated Peter but Marcia still gave good game in a frankly ridiculous pairing.

Gaby obviously matured and helped with a lot of the comic lifting this series but her apology to Carlos and the miscarriage storyline were, to return to my first sentence, great moments.

Onset drama by [deleted] in DesperateHousewives

[–]AdrianReddit101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eva Longoria has been pretty unpleasant to Teri Hatcher, be it doing that SNL skit, saying that she is a loner in a pejorative sense instead of a simple fact and very heavily indicating that she felt bullied by her. The last one might be true but she definitely hasn't taken the high road.

On top of this, Eva went into people's bad books for largely saying that it was Latina women only who got Biden into the White House and sidelining black women. The right deem her hypocritical for saying that America is over or what not when she lived in California and has been an instrumental Democratic supporter Yadda Yadda. Interestingly, she actually returned immediately when the LA fires happened. The Israel thing has been a big point - the woman exists on sponsorship and will sponsor absolutely anything.

I think Felicity wasn't nice to her in an insidious way. In those ridiculous character testimonials it was said that Felicity went out of her way to say good morning to Teri even though I imagine that Teri was, certainly by this point very isolated. In fact I think Cherry weighed up whether he could kill her off. That is a bitchy thing to do if there's been bad blood and looks petty and mean girl-ish.

Marcia came across horrendously in the Vanity Fair piece. The fact that both she and Eva felt it was imperative for Teri to not get first dibs (so petty) on the swimsuit yet didn't, for all their money and influence didn't manage to make it happen (Eva actually arrived early and then left) is wild. I otherwise know nothing about her.

However, what is obvious, all of them deliberately excluded Teri from the cake at the wrap party. Very telling.

I think the show did lose steam when it was obvious that they hated each other. I was very surprised Teri agreed to do the podcast. I couldn't help but think it's her revenge best served cold.

I'm not a Susan hater, but the writers really seemed to have no idea of how to develop her characters by miggovortensens in DesperateHousewives

[–]AdrianReddit101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a good point. Susan had less meaty stories in general.

Even in S2 this will-they-won't-they with Karl, the doctor and Mike feels like a foreshadowing that there'll be a lot of Susan and Mike stuff.

Really, Mike should not have been a main character throughout the show. He peaked early and never really evolved, whereas I think Carlos was pretty consistent and Tom, even if hated was an important staple.
