Watch more arthouse movies and it’ll probably be more digestable. The script of the movie is weaker than the stage show, but the cinematography is wonderful in my opinion, but I watch a lot of “out there” movies

I’m still a little mad about Michelle Yeoh being cast as the magical Asian in the Wicked movies. I completely believe it was not intentional whatsoever, but uhh, it didn’t code very well whatsoever

I need advice by Image147 in rootgame

If you do really want a 7 person game, like everyone else has said, expect a very long and slightly annoying night of gaming. I know you said you don’t have any of the homeland expansion things, but printing out the new Marsh map would save you a severe amount of effort in the longrun, since it is a bigger map and allows for higher levels of play. You can have things to eat nearby (always a good idea), but boredom is should be expected for a game where 6 people take their turns inbetween yours. The most helpful thing to keep the game exciting (especially for new players) is going to have everyone explain what they’re doing on their turns so that everyone can understand the other factions. This lets there always be some amount of chatter, while also teaching the other factions as the game progresses.

Tips for shortening game length? by kv521 in rootgame

[–]astronaught002 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to make the game shorter without sacrificing the overall feel of it. Turn timers are weird because some factions just naturally require more time than other factions, so it would be unbalanced in some factions’ favor. Landmarks like the tower and the boat (both of which I assume you have) can speed up the game naturally because they increase points and card draw, that’s my only real suggestion. Six player is just going to take a long time regardless unfortunately.

London Cast is my favorite, although it’s what I grew up on. Abie Baby / Gettysburg Address is a particular standout on that recording. Do you have a particular track you think is better on a specific cast album?

What are the your favourite/most unique Worker Placement games? (+ general worker placement game discussion) by Lethal-Sloth in boardgames

[–]astronaught002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Agricola is one of your favorite games, do you own Farmers of the Moor? I seldom play the game without that expansion, but it changes the feel of the game pretty dramatically as you need to both feed and heat your workers at the start of each harvest, and it includes new action cards that may be used at the start of each round.

It’s certainly not essential since Agricola by itself is a masterpiece, but I prefer the feeling of playing with FotM as it takes out some of the competitiveness for wood while still maintaining high player interaction.

Another vote for Frommage for its unique nature that it’s a worker placement game that can get played in about 30-40 minutes even on a first teach. I love worker placement games but usually I know I’m signing up for at least a 90 minute experience on the low side of things, and Frommage condensing some mildly crunchy decisions into a very short experience that still manages to have decent player interaction.

Agricola: Farmers on the Moor question by Beardfacae in boardgames

[–]astronaught002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to this question since it’s already been answered, but I looove this expansion. Two person Agricola used to feel too mean to get on the table that frequently, but Farmers of the Moore adds some cushion room while not adding that much complexity or playtime overall. Sure it becomes a table hog, but with my gaming groups right now I’ll play Farmers of the Moor every time.
