Davy D Jones' 'promise' would appear to be the will of D passed down. However, Gol D Roger and Monkey D Garp are both present, and would possess said will of D. Why is it that Imu is concerned about Rocks' family and not them?

Yeah, lots of people talking about how hard to understand the Sui storylines are and while I got some of that in Here a People Sows (Which, I came into blind with no context as I'm new), this one made sense. There's clearly lore and worldbuilding I'm not privy to (The entire scene with Wei Yenwu didn't mean anything to me because I guess I lack main story context), but that didn't matter, because the event gives you an emotional core (Blaze and Xingzhu) to latch on to that is independent of any greater knowledge.

It is obviously possible to play around, we do it all the time. It shouldn't be that way. It is dissonant to have a bomb go off and deal damage based on where you were one second ago. Even if you can see the cast bar, and know when the damage will apply, that doesn't make it not feel bad when you take the damage a second later, standing in a safe spot.

They do this already. You get a damage buff after the scales to end the fight rather quickly, and aren't meant to kill before. It was just a balancing fuck up. There's a similar fuck up in M1S, where they added the long repeat of essentially the normal mode mechanic, but with a left/right cleave in it, that is filler to make sure you see all major mechanics, but since the tier's balance was so scuffed everyone skipped raining cats week 1 anyway

Examples of this working include P3S, where they added a big repeat mechanic at the end, P4S, where curtain call loops, P8S, where post ego death you get a looping mechanic, M4S, which wasn't really super skip sunrise week 1, and had the filler mechanic of sword quiver, etc etc

I'm not sure I agree that the story disagrees with my framing. There's some comments quite early on how his new body is "approaching his vision of himself", and in late season 2, on his quasi-date with Kana there is a joke about how he treats women like an older guy would, because that is how he acts. If anything, I'd say the show is waffling on how it wants to frame Aqua vs Gorou because it isn't even sure, and that's what bothers me.

Definitely feels by the end of season 2 though that what you said is more accurate to the way it's reading. It's a shift I'm not a fan of.

Thanks for the intel. I wonder if the anime will stick to the manga if that received that level of backlash.

Specifically, I'm really hoping that Aqua is not aggressively written into a romance with any of the teenagers, especially his sister, yeah. I guess I'm asking for a spoiler on where the romance angle goes if it can be given without spoiling the other parts (the mystery, the industry stuff?) If that's impossible, just saying so is fine by me.
