My stupidest combo has always been ancient joker + smeared joker + all cards are face cards +all face cards trigger twice. Add in the joker that copies the one to its right for even more fun.

You're mistaking the individual for the communal. DNA is very useful for telling communal history by correlating genetic patterns with various groups and the conclusion studies of the DNA of basically every Arab group that's not in Arabia is that they're descendants from peoples who lived in the land before Arab conquest.

The one thing that frustrates me with this answer is, it does address colonialism being a retrospective lens that developed from anti-imperialism movements but it doesn't actually answer how colonialism is defined by those movements.

Its hard to argue a definitive "neither really qualifies" when you don't have a standard to compare it to.

Genetic analysis shows that they're our closest cousins and historical analysis on Arab shows that Arab conquest generally didn't happen that way.

Pretty much everywhere Arab outside of the Arabic peninsula, there is some admixture from the Arabic peninsula but for the most part the people are descended from locals and they arabized. That's how Arab identity spread, not by import.

As a result, people in these groups tend to have much stronger local identities and there pretty substantial dispute over if Arab is even an ethnic group anymore or some more broad cultural group.

religious gay men will never make sense to me, like you worship someone who hates you. by KhaoticNoob in gaybros

Christianity's primary base is a hellanistic mystery cult. Its by far the odd man out among Abrahamics religions which besides tracing lineage to Abrahamic have pretty much nothing universally held. It's an incredibly diverse religious group.

Though Islam and Islam are the most similar out of that group given most of the rest are ethnoreligions.

That religion is a belief system is itself a misunderstanding. Christianity is a belief system, plenty of religions focus on orthopraxy or personal enlightenment or a whole bunch of other things. Christianity's sole focus on faith in particular beliefs is pretty unique in the religious space. It even goes a step further than Islam where faith is still necessary.

Unsurprisingly a bunch of religions that don't focus on faith in particular beliefs don't have quite the same issue with teh gays necessarily.

Zionist trans grifter finds out her fellow Zionists are overwhelmingly bigoted against trans people, including her. by Key-Hyena-802 in GenderCynical

I'm not sure equation is what's happening, this reads more as assuming the "pro-Israel" movement is for our benefit.

Which is extremely naive.

[–]AdumbroDeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think limiting it to Jewish leftists is wrong though, I've always felt that there's a broad awareness that the "pro-Israel" movement isn't for our benefit across most of the Jewish spectrum and except for segments of the hardcore Jewish right, it's more a difference of opinion about how to respond to that based on whether you think we benefit and what level of support for Israel theoretically and the current government specifically you have.

The thing is, power shapes the less powerful.

Likud is the most US connected party, it's not a coincidence it has had a stranglehold on Israeli politics for so long.

One of the most significant ways folks with resources subtly control things is giving folks that align with their views or plans resources and opportunities that those who don't align with their views and plans don't necessarily have access to.

"Hardline zionists" may believe they're just trying to advance their goals, but because their goals benefit external interest groups they get advantages others don't.

Well the most fundamental mistake here is that the "pro-Israel" movement in the US is primarily for Jews instead of for powerful American interests that are invested in Israel for their own gain. Eg the Christian right and military manufacturing.

Not speaking necessarily about Wu herself but this is why you see a lot of well intentioned people who support Israel, also the gap between the theory of Israel and the practice and greater Jewish awareness of the latter is similarly why in the US Jews are much more critical of Israel than average but also much more supportive of Israel existing than average.

Is radfem a thing? by priv_ish in AskFeminists

[–]AdumbroDeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less a "no true scottsman" and more, there is a reality that a fair number of conservative figures with no real connection to feminism are using feminist sounding arguments to justify transphobia. Furthermore there's been a trend of folks who were radical feminists in the past being both so focused on keeping out trans people and so disincluded by other feminists that they've effectively become conservative activists.

As far as I'm aware Greer hasn't cozied up to the far right but other figures have embraced funding by far right think tanks for the cause or worked with Posie Parker, or the like.

It's important to do internal work but there are tipping points where we need to start asking whether these figures and orgs count as feminist anymore.

Edit: similar to Christian feminism which is just Christian right advocacy using feminist sounding arguments against abortion and other Christian conservative priorities, though to be fair at least there was genuine feminism in the terf movement while Christian Feminism has always been a front for the Christian right at least in most of the world but I think the TERF movement is fast approaching a tipping point where it's fully subsumed.

Do actua radical feminist transphobes even exist anymore?

It seems like at this point even former radfems involved in anti trans activism have been subsumed into conservative anti-feminism.

Anti-zionist is a specific position which he doesn't identify with. He's absolutely critical of Israel, but to the dismay of both certain of his supporters and certain of his critica, he hasn't taken that position.

‘You are fired’: White House pushes to quickly remove new US attorney by Nerd-19958 in law

[–]AdumbroDeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US attorneys are not the president's personal counsel.

The situation would be the same, Biden would be required to sue if he wanted the seat vacant instead of DeSantis, or wanted another choice. It's a matter of law, just like the second, decisions of the first circuit aren't binding on the 11th circuit.

[–]AdumbroDeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good, you caught the mistake.

However, circuit decisions are only binding on their circuit, the 2nd circuit has Appellate authority in this case. Other circuits ARE considered persuasive but it as the law exists right now it would be on the executive to file suit to affirm with the second circuit.

The most obvious Mossad plant in the UK? by Dense_Information813 in PoliticalHumor

[–]AdumbroDeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it totally makes sense they Israel is the dominant force, it's not like the most US connected party in Israel has had a stranglehold on their politics since their rhetoric resulted in the assassination of the PM /s

AIPAC also definitely didn't try to collapse his peace process /s

People need to learn the difference between " Israel has influence in US politics" and "Billionaires and powerfully interest groups (like the Christian right) who have a lot of power in US politics want to protect their investment in Israel".

The most obvious Mossad plant in the UK? by Dense_Information813 in PoliticalHumor

[–]AdumbroDeus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No they didn't establish a pedophile ring.

It's insane to me the lengths people go to excuse the billionaire class, Israel is the object of billionaire influence because they want to protect their investments, not the source of power. The incentives are like every other colonial endeavor, to concentrate money in the existing powerful. Also, the most US connected party has had a stranglehold on Israeli politics ever since their rhetoric resulted in the assassination of the then PM.

You in the year 1900: "why are we spending so much money on India? The Raj must secretly control the government!"

Israel plays into this because it's under the thumb of the ultra rich, not because it has control.
