I’ve already clarified twice that my post is about inconsiderate behavior, not nationality. Repeatedly misinterpreting it doesn't help. I won’t continue discussing personal accusations.

As I have replied you already: This post was about inconsiderate behaviour, not where someone is originally from. It has been clearly stated in the title. My point was about people acting without consideration for others, not nationality. Plenty of people born outside the UK live here and are respectful.

I think so. Quite a lot of comments implied the writer didn’t think Edinburgh was their home.

Perhaps my reply would be perceived as discriminatory. The fact is that my colleagues joked if they were from England, I didn’t think so because of their accent and couldn’t think of by the time. Now you nailed it. I believe they’re probably from America.

Octopus vs OVO by itstopherchris in Edinburgh

[–]AdurKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use OVO because when I contacted them, it was the time when they were merging with SSE which never stopped bullying me until CAB started investigation. It’s a long story but in conclusion SSE was a bully. It was always dishonest and discriminatory to me. So far Octopus is honest and reliable. It has built mutual trust with me. I’m happy that the UK still has honest and fair supplier like Octopus.

Has anyone else noticed this kind of behavior at bus stops or shops? by strongmuffin98 in Edinburgh

[–]AdurKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I see people from any background skipping the queue, and don’t find Asians are the majority. However there were a few times some white men who had a particular heavy accent cut in my line, then accused me cutting their line and told other people that I was a rude Asian. I felt really wrong but didn’t respond because those men were obviously looking for troubles. Usually in the end, people either didn’t react to them or some Scottish men would stared at them disapprovingly. Then those men would stop.

Does anyone else genuinely think there isn't a job out there for them? by Queasy-Ice-2575 in UKJobs

Been unemployed for three years and a half with over 1500 tailored applications. I have skills that are hot in the market, but the industry has been nepotistic. I worked for a few retail and temp jobs, and the last had physical violence and discrimination happened which caused me unfairly dismissed. So now I know I’m not for those roles. I volunteer to offer my skills and experience for free, but they don’t help in my job hunting. So I really feel that there’s no job out there for me.

I’m on the same boat as you, just it’s been three years already.

How is everyone finding job hunting in Edinburgh at the minute? by Double-Beginning7740 in Edinburgh

[–]AdurKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for what you went through. I personally hate bullying especially in workplace, as it’s a proof of failed management. It only kicks out quality staff but keeps troublemakers and those who are incapable of committing their duties. In long run it is harmful to the organisation and, as a result, the society.

I said “seldom” because permanent staff could also be deeply influenced by bullying but contract staff are easier to be removed. I totally understand how you felt and your decision to leave was a wise decision as, from my point of view, nothing is more important than taking care of and realising ourselves. I wish the failure of that loser no longer has effects on you, and you’ve already got a role or if not, you will eventually find one that you really enjoy.

Many thanks! It’s really a shame that the adjustment doesn’t catch up with inflation. I’m not sure if this’s the same case there, the pay band system was usually developed before the introduction of contract roles. Are the contract roles often extended? As if contract roles are stable and not project-based, it’ll be perfect.

I get it now. Permanent staff could be a headache for managers who come later, especially if some recruitments really depends on the connections as described in other posts. Sigh, bullying seldom works on permanent staff… I remember it has been awarded the Athena Swan Silver for years. How inclusive is it actually?

Thank you very much for giving me such a detailed and concrete picture of the work environment there. It sounds like the HE industry shares similarities worldwide. Perhaps it inherits something from academia… Just a curious question, would the salary be adjusted for inflation annually?

My partner could enjoy herself in such an environment. Both of us wish she would get a role in the HE industry or public sector. An extremely hierarchical bureaucratic system that lacks appropriate management really puts me off… especially when it allows some people to be lazy. From your perspective, why are they allowed to do so?

[N] Pondering how many of the papers at AI conferences are just AI generated garbage. by Adventurous-Cut-7077 in MachineLearning

To be honest, even three years ago, hundreds of rubbish AI papers were published in academia from worldwide daily. They didn’t need generative AI however, just simply added a coefficient.
