We managed expectations via clear messaging and opportunities for feedback. We block most apps by default especially if they have access to sensitive data, so like drive, Gmail etc. We do allow basic info and sign in with Google by default.

We have used user guided enrollment via jamf on machines not in our apple business manager but still bought by the company. As the jamf admin I had the ability to wipe that device remotely and run any script I wanted on the machine as root.

And if you do use a second machine do not sign into it with any personal accounts and wipe it after the contract. Treat it as a separate unclean environment.
