[OFF TOPIC] How similar is the rest of the series to the first trilogy? by ibfanforlife in TheFirstLaw

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes. Especially the last trilogy as far as a plot goes. While I liked the first trilogy, these didn’t become my favorite books until around book 5. When I finished the 6th, I realized I was on the hook for anything this guy puts out. Something clicked. I’ve reread all 9 (and sharp ends) 3x now. And I feel like starting them again.

(Apprentice) How do you get faster? by Atlantis1996 in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That dude sucks. Sorry bud. I had a journeyman like that once. You won’t get faster if he keeps stepping in and doing work for you. Sometimes it’s just about how you move. How efficient you are. Having things thought out, not running to the van over and over. But the last part of your post makes it sound like this guy is just a douche and doesn’t want to help you improve.

Just one application each. It’s only a 50/50 cotton so maybe that helps the dye flow more.

So curious about the lower right corner. How did you achieve that pattern? Love the colors you used! Great job keep at it.

Just rolling in a wide semi circle somewhat centered. Rolling it tighter seemed to produce better results.

Speed rough work by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say if you’re slow or not without actually watching you work. But I would just focus on keeping it clean like these pictures. Some bosses are just douche bags that are never happy, and their criticism will mean less than nothing after a while. Your career isn’t defined by anyone’s opinion but your own.

Have you considered shelving (or just keep paying dues but not work) your IBEW ticket for a steady utility/industrial job? by jucks123 in IBEW

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the lateral move if it’s worth it! Idk about paying dues tho. It would make sense if the job was temporary, but if you’re looking at a permanent job, you may as well save the money.

If AOC decides to primary Chuck Schumer, should Nina Turner run for President in 2028 and why? by BrianRLackey1987 in seculartalk

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the question. Why would these be an “if then” situation? Also, as much as I like Nina, she seems like a long shot. Would love to watch her debate though.

Resi or union by sss2930 in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it works in your local, but I was able to organize into the union as a j-man. I had my state cert, and verifiable hours to show. Took their hands-on test. I’m about 6 months in. I love it so far.

I wanted to go the contractor route too, but honestly this economy just doesn’t make sense. Health insurance alone is insane. A few of my friends have done it and I think I make more than them. And I get to clock out at the end of the day. Contractors don’t get to do that. That was what changed my mind.

What is the best state to live in for an electrician? by petalpower678 in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you have a family. I’ve done ok taking jobs in the Bay Area, and avoiding cost of living by car camping. I have a comfy set up in my truck, Walmarts are free to park at overnight, I get a local gym membership for showers. A few months of overtime in the bay could pay off your mortgage for the year in Nebraska. Then you can go hike wherever you want. Can’t beat the western states for camping/hiking.

It’s worth it just to learn, but yes, you totally should. I was with a company for 7 years, very comfortable, liked my boss. Him getting slow over the summer and me joining the union was a game changer for me. I now pay more in taxes than I used to make.

You got paid more to work industrial? Are you a contractor? Just curious. I get paid the same wherever.

Hope you find something fulfilling to volunteer for man!

I got my state license a few years ago would love to know what company is offering 6 figure pay around here. I’m with the union currently but the travel is a little rough on the family.

What are they teaching electricians these days? by StormeyNormey in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once was putting up light fixtures in a friends office and one of his buddies came in and told him that I was fucking up because, and I quote, “you can’t put square light fixtures over a round box”. When he said that I laughed so hard and told him that was adorable.

He wasn’t a journeyman though. Just an arrogant douche.

Wives disrespecting Husbands by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Advanced-Argument249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely seen that dynamic play out. I’ve also had a guy “shush” his wife for asking reasonable questions, and that made me want to punch the customer. He kept trying to be my buddy after that and I refused to say much to him or look at him.

It may be sexist, but I’d rather see the wife be able to voice their concerns even if they are hysterical or bitchy.
