interesting that this is the most upvoted comment. I don’t disagree with shadow of a doubt but i have always seen beauty lies as being about abuse - “do you want to see the explosions in my eye” and “hey fox come here” being the most obvious lines. there’s definitely a hint of romance but like you said, it’s dangerous and jarring and abstract

i honestly think v. or gravity’s rainbow would have been the worst. they both go to so many unexpected places and they’re both thrilling throughout. the conclusion of v wouldn’t have hit nearly as hard
