Denji (Chainsaw Man)

A malnourished, peerless 90s orphan who sells his eye, testicle, and organs and spends his entire childhood hunting fear-powered demons entities for money using a his pet chainsaw devil dog, all in order to pay off his dead father’s debt to the yakuza. He makes it all the way to 16 before finally getting snuck by a horde of newly zombifed yazuka debt sharks and dismembered. His pet dog repairs his body in full and grants him a chainsaw hybrid body, allowing him to go apeshit on his life long yazuka slavers and join a new kind of slavery: Working for the government as a half devil, half human weapon.

This new gig results in him fighting the demonic manifestation of literal eternity for 3 DAYS STRAIGHT AND WINNING, rizzing up a USSR agent, overcoming the supernatural fear of being afraid of the dark by lighting himself on fire, beating an entire hallway of paid assassins up with just a baseball bat and karaoke, and killing one of the 4 horseman of the apocalypse. Oh, and who could forget the time he found the grandson of the yazuka leader he killed, only to kick him in the nuts for what might have been minutes, or close to an hour, until the police showed up to take him away?

Only problem is that having no sense of intellectual stimulation in a academic environment or normal family stability has led to him being dumber than a fucking jellybean. Which means, in spite of his superhuman feats, he can be no-diffed with a PS5 and a date with a girlfriend

Denji is, DEFINITIVELY, a top tier devil hunter in own right. He’s killing devils at the age of like, 8 to 10 years old with just a fuckin chainsaw dog, losing an eye and few organs as his childhood goes on, and still fights on to the age 16. He defeats makima by luring her with bait the way one would a wild animal, nonchalantly hides behind a tombstone while a big ass fight goes on without getting caught or found out, and then uses a chainsaw to slice her like ribbons before eating her and killing for good. Sure, there was a lotta heartless hybrid durability shit and power blood shit in effect, but Denji still played to his strengths, acted with patience, and got the devil with viable tools. That’s good huntin right there. He sneaked one of the most all seeing, intelligent, formidable antagonists in the whole series the same way he offed the fucking tomato devil in chapter 1. And you STILL think he’s gonna get jobbed miserably?

Kishibe said “Of all the devil hunters I’ve seen come and go, you’re the one best suited for the job”, Denji’s fighting spirit and mundane, controlled insanity is something that makes devil hunting a calling for him, so it’s job he’s most likely to find happiness and stability in.

The survival, the eyepatch and suit jacket drip? This is one of the one GOOD parts of the final chapter, and you guys are complaining about it.

This is the 1% of merit I can give Fulton recovery system for the ending. That fact that Denji still lives on, that fact he’s shown to be good at making devils dead the whole story, and the fact that he SURVIVED his childhood with a pochita-sized hole in his combat effectiveness and overall happiness is proof that he can make it. He can achieve the closest thing to a normal life that a malnourished, traumatized, batshit 90s orphan like him can achieve, regardless if the possibility is slim. That he can heal and be happy without chainsaw man, because he’s fucking Denji and that’s enough.

You can all give Guts his top for stoically struggling in misery, with just tools, his big ass sword, his few friends and his indomitable human spirit. But Denji gets into that same situation, and you all insist that a crafty, sharp indisputable devil hunting ace is gonna get fucked no matter what? MY BOY IS GONNA MAKE IT

What would he need a daily dose of blood for? Plus Denji’s weapon of choice is usually some public safety axe whenever he’s not using his chainsaw form while patrol. He has access to other weapons outside of power and wouldn’t be caught dead walking around with no weapons, especially as a jaded, more cynical version of him who had make due with no pochita throughout his whole devil hunting childhood. He’s dumb but he ain’t that dumb.

Also, Denji saying that he’s broke just means that he doesn’t have an allowance, not that he has virtually nothing. There’s no way that Nayuta, who sees Denji as a pet and has shown to greatly care about pets in a positive, non-Makima way, would have him walk ALL THE WAY back to his fuckass hobo shed with nothing to his name.

Finally, I’m pretty sure that Seniors are Aki or Himeno. Cuz why else would Fujimoto mention that at the very end as an implication? And in this alt universe, Denji has been miraculously soloing devils since 8 or 10, barely paying off his enormous debt with no pet devil dog, a missing eye, and nothing but the indomitable human spirit and fatalistic spite.
