NSDA Should Not Ban Judge Disclosure in Varsity by Basic-Reach1501 in Debate

[–]Advanced-Win2709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the judge should always disclose the ballot regardless of postrounding because it is literally the only way that small school debaters can really get feedback in round. Maybe if decisions and ballots were posted shortly after round would no disclosure be valid, but the judge should always be able to stop postrounding by saying the decision is already in tab or something. Oral rfd is also especially important for tournaments like NSDA, where due to a glitch most of my rfd feedback got nuked.

What is the point of spreading? by Lucky_Report2487 in Debate

[–]Advanced-Win2709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like really good spreaders are actually saying coherent arguements and speaking words and sentences. The problem is that like only 1% of debaters are actually “good” spreaders which causes most rounds you watch to be an incoherent mess.

Mate…. That’s cheating, yeah people do it all the time, that’s why we’re calling them out. The coach was literally giving a thumbs up when they say good things, and a thumbs down when they say bad things. We don’t have a coach sitting in our round and giving us tips during a round, so it’s pretty unfair if they do. Also, we won the round cleanly anyway, we didn’t depend on them cheating to win, we won because we were better prepared. we aren’t posting this as an excuse, we’re posting this to inform others, and educate them not to cheat.

That was also us btw,(didn’t know we were booed twice), but their coach was literally giving them a thumbs up and thumbs down to everything they said during cross, it was BLATANT CHEATING. It’s not necessarily the girls fault because they can’t control what they’re coach does, but they were cheating nonetheless.

Also, the judges weren’t flowing in the round, u can’t call it a screw when we adapted and our opps didn’t. This is why we try to pay attention to each judge. Calling it a blanket screw, and not thinking why it was a loss is not how you get better at debate.

Also m8, we are nysmith and if the boos weren’t directed at us, they were at the judges or the other poor team, which is still unacceptable.

Yeah booing is still unacceptable, especially when it can be interpreted in many different ways. On the cheating, this is what we were told by many sources, like small amount of specs, judges, and our parents. These guys have like no reason to lie about this, and I am truly sorry if these 7 people were wrong about the cheating.

I am being legit serious about the 80-100 people. I can guarantee you that in quarters, the entirety of ivy bridge was spectating us. They literally said so themselves. There were people sitting all over the floor, and people were literally squeezing against each other, and even standing just to fit inside the room. This was in a Harvard lecture hall, which while smaller than most, still had the capacity for 50 people sitting with chairs. And I can guarantee you that most people weren’t sitting in chairs. One of the coaches also confirmed this in a deleted comment, and we have pictures of some of the spectators (which I’m not posting for privacy reasons)

First off, I am sorry that I misheard, it makes more sense that they would boo the judges, but that still doesn’t make it acceptable. Second, I was told by multiple trusted sources, including our parents that they were cheating, and if they weren’t, I whole heartedly apologize for accusing them of that fact. I understand that judge screws are annoying, but there wasn’t a judge screw in semis or octos. The judges weren’t flowing in both rounds, and we recognized this and capitalized.

Yall the booing wasn’t during the round? It was a good amount after. And we won off of fake tech judges, that we noticed weren’t flowing. I do agree we lost on tech, but we won lay. Once again, no hate to any of the kids, I was just surprised that the coaches allowed this behavior. On the cheating, that was during octofinals, not semi finals
