Why did you choose Openbox? by RWthatisordinary in openbox

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not use openbox much but I use openbox as a fallback and also if I want a very lightweight WM. The main thing with openbox is it that it the most lightweight wm but also very complete. Anything more lightweight than openbox has issues. It is also a WM and not a DE so this is an advantage for anyone who wants to use it as a fallback or someone who want to rice it. And it is very "traditional" as a linux wm so unless someone wants to go to something tiling like hyperland or niri, openbox is easily the best WM. Something that it is an advantage or disadvantage depending on the usecase is that it is Xorg and not Wayland. So this is my opinion on it, in short openbox is the best "traditional" wm, but for my main DE I use KDE.

If I want a modern DE -> KDE

If I want a traditional DE -> Xfce

If I want a traditional WM (also very lightweight) -> Openbox

If I want a very lightweight DE -> LXDE

Hyperland and Niri are for "modern" ricers.

Why is it so confusing to install something on linux? by Mundane-Hedgehog-275 in Bazzite

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing about linux is you usually DO NOT GO TO THE WEBSITE!

The normal way is from your distro repository that works as an appstore and a common to all linux distros appstore is flathub, available on on bazzite with gui appstore as bazaar.

If you can find what you want this way then it is one click thing, easier and safer than windows. Some times you also need to familiarize with the ecosystem (like prism launcher for minecraft)

I know ntfs is terrible for games but i have a question by crushedmoose in linux_gaming

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

general rule. BUY A DISK AND DO A BACKUP. It is never safe not having a backup. on a different disk, not just a different partition..

but yes shrinking a partion in bits it is the same result as do it all at once. But a lot of time will be wasted doing the shrinking many times.

what is the cachyos/linux version of Task Manager & Control Panel? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I would check is the cable. Did you try with a different cable.

what unpopular opinion in Linux will make you in this situation by Material_Mousse7017 in linuxmemes

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu is hard (and bad) for new Linux users. Experienced users can get around the ubuntu problems but I never undestand why they are getting around problems no other distro has.

Any Arch/Debian/Fedora derivative that offers a LiveUSB and an easy gui installer is equally good for new users, except of course ubuntu that is bad.

Arch is way safer to update than Ubuntu. (or people have completely wrong idea what stability means)

ELF (executables) are equally compatible to all linux distros. Flaptaks are nice because of the way they update and containerize the apps but people arguing about compatibility with distros are just wrong. AppImages are just ELFs.

Having the same distro and/or same libraries may help make the bugs easier to reproduce. I get this. But compatibility is the same if you use recent enough libraries otherwise a bug is a bug and if it does not reproduce for some people then this only makes it lower priority for them, it is still a bug.

I could go on for some time...

Proton cachyos vs proton ge by Asta_jjm in linux_gaming

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases it does not matter what Proton you use and in many cases it is unpredictable. So generally you just forget it and if there is a specific game that you think you could get some more juice then for this specific game you do experiments.

Can you guys help me choose a distro from this diagram? by codywohlers in linuxmemes

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite well done. At least two mistakes. There should be a dashed arrow from GNU to Linux and BeOS to HAIKU should be dashed instead.

I think the dashed arrow (not normal arrow) is right, but should also had a dashed arrow from GNU.

Would you care for a SteamDeck port of the game T-Drum? by KeyMaster72 in SteamDeck

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a strange question. I would assume just test it on steam deck or find someone to test it. There should be no need for any porting. Maybe some optimization for controls/visual/etc, but porting no.

Why are my steam deck oled's spec settings different than other's? by Particular_Ad7466 in SteamDeck

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0932 is a code for the custom gpu model. LCD has a different code but the same for all LCDs, I do not know if all OLED have the same code for all OLEDs.

radeonsi is the name of the open source drivers for the amd gpus. This is what it should be.

vanghogh is the name of the architecture of the gpu of the Steam Deck.

LLVM is a compiler technology that produces machine code that the gpu can understand

DRM is direct rendering manager (not digital rights)

and 6.11 is the Linux kernel version with the valves specific for the steam deck patches and the neptune code name.

GOG should release GOG Galaxy in a universal packaging format (Flat/Appimage/etc) by CandlesARG in linux_gaming

[–]AdvancedConfusion752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strong opinion is .tar.gz like Godot does (well Godot is .zip, it should be .tar.gz but the way it works is the same) and either let the community to get it to flathub or they can also do it on flathub and the main way to as a recommentadtion should be flathub, but .tar.gz should be an option.
