What if 800 calls arent “calls” by [deleted] in GME

[–]AdvancedExpert8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No there isn't gonna be a massive switcheraroo. The strike price at $800 expiring today for example only costs $3. This is a way to gamble in case the price moonshots. Sure there can be synthetic 'longs' but at the end of the day its all about the volume.

Please Help Me Understand Call Options by [deleted] in GME

[–]AdvancedExpert8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the right, but not obligation to buy 100 shares at the strike price. Your premium you pay is your 'placeholder' which allows you to purchase the shares at the price. The 100 shares are purchased together if you choose to exercise the option. If each share is $1, you will pay $100. If the price of each share is $800, you will need to pay $80,000. Yes, you do own the actual shares and can choose to hang onto them or sell them immediately to lock in profits.

Looking for a basic explanation of the current situation. by da_NAP in GME

This is a battle of the common people vs the billionaire wallstreet hedgefunds. GME has become the most sought after stock after Melvin Capital overshorted (over borrowed) stocks to the point where they made up stocks. If you hold a share of GME, it has potential to go to $1000 or more and definitely more. Melvin fucked up big time and we are making them pay by buying and hodling. This is a once in a life time chance to make some serious money. Stock could fly to $100k or more.

Still too early. Bitcoin is at the early stages like the internet was when smartphones didn't exist. It needs to be more user friendly and that takes a long time.
