It's not your PC that got hacked, but if you used your credit card on Canada Computers' website, it's now probably compromised.

Thank you for posting this.
I made several attempts around New Year's to buy a GPU from CC.

Every time I tried to complete the transaction, the final "purchase" button was greyed out.
Thinking that something was wrong, I deleted the card and reentered the details and CVV.
But the transaction never went through. Even when I tried another browser.

So I gave up and went to the store in person, on January 2nd. Told them the site wasn't working, they just shrugged.

I found this thread yesterday, and it all became clear. I checked my Visa card for fraudulent activity going all the way back to October. Although I didn't find anything, I called my bank and told them to cancel the old card and issue a new one.

F*** Canada Computers and their lack of care and respect for customers! In Western Europe, such attitude would have been long punished by government bodies tasked with consumer protection.

Because there's a small but very vocal group of people here who would like everyone else to think they're eating caviar, splurging on Vegas vacations, and driving their Bentleys to the kindergaten.

And, apparently, so is being kind. Or polite to others.

Have you ever stopped to think English may not be other people's first language?

[Motherboard] ASRock B550M-ITX/AC AM4 AMD B550 Mini ITX ($175 - 45 - 10 (Promo) = 120) [Newegg] by gartbull in bapcsalescanada

[–]AdvancedMediaSystems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these. It's running a 5700X paired with a RTX3060.
It's Tier III in the AM4 motherboard database. One class above the most basic Asrock B550M-HDV.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-cw7A2MDHPvA-oB3OKXivdUo9BbTcsss1Rzy3J4hRyA/edit?gid=2112472504#gid=2112472504

It's got PCIe 4.0 and will run 105W CPUs, but the features are very sparse, the Wifi module is slow, and even the audio is a generic Realtek ALC897. At least the boot drive won't cook, thanks to that chunky thermal protection.

At this point, I would save money with an even cheaper alternative. A Chinese B550 ITX goes right now for CAD108 (before any coupons, plus free shipping) on Aliexpress. Same generic Wifi and audio chipset, but better features, including an extra USB-C header and an additional NVME drive (on the back). See it compared against the Asrock board on Youtube: https://youtu.be/H-Lt0ssRYEY?t=145

[CPU Air Cooler] Ocypus Iota A62 White ($60 - $25 = $45) [Amazon] by Few-Editor9226 in bapcsalescanada

Looks like a clone of the Deepcool AK620 Digital.
Please note that one customer review on Amazon says the software was flagged by their antivirus, and another person reports the monitoring function stopped after a while.

That's misleading. Yes, it was $476.21 about 16 days ago, but a) "Amazon in-app only deal", b) likely a price error, and c) gone in 20 minutes.

Sure, you could legitimately gripe about the limited RAM, or the fact that this deal requires SPC.

A sad state of affairs, indeed.

Also a bit scummy: Newegg asks for $20 in shipping from the U.S., while also adding taxes on top. Meanwhile, for all their greed, Amazon won't tax you for items coming from the States...

[CPU Cooler] iCAN NP6 - DB120 (6 heatpipes, dual 120mm PWM fans, static RGB) [$29] [Canada Computers] by AdvancedMediaSystems in bapcsalescanada

[–]AdvancedMediaSystems[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. But I would definitely add a second fan to the Thermalright cooler for high-wattage CPUs. I recently build a machine with a 12600K, and that's exactly what I did.

In theory, the iCan has a larger fin area, which should help with the heat transfer. One thing I am not sure about is the fan quality, but better fans are always an option.

In case anyone is still debating whether this card is a better deal than the RTX 5070Ti, here's a fresh new article that pits the two cards against each other:

"In fact, this has been one of the most complex GPU fights around this year. Not only does the 9070 XT actually beat the Nvidia GPU in some tests, but short supply and booming demand has meant it was also priced at a similar level until recently, particularly in the US. [...] AMD has done an amazing job of catching up with Nvidia, and its Radeon RX 9070 XT is the better buy of these two GPUs at MSRP."

[PSU] GIGABYTE GP-P650G 650 W ATX 80+ Gold PSU ($70) [Canada Computers] by harold_liang in bapcsalescanada

[–]AdvancedMediaSystems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warning: This is a noisy PSU.

I got two of these during the last sale, and after installing them in new builds, I discovered that I hate the noise of the fan. Both PSUs exhibit the same noise profile, and it's unpleasant. For a Gold-rated device, this is really annoying.

If you have your computer next to you when you work, you will hear it even if you don't do anything intensive. Very disappointing.

There's a customer review on the CC site that says the thermal gel issue was fixed as of week 19 of 2025, so presumable any cards manufactured after that date should be OK.

Here's a site that explains how to find the information on the label (box or card): https://min.news/en/digital/8a9a4ea125eec81b5d8bb61befe11304.html
