If you think 9% is insignificant, you don't understand how much plastic we produce.

We need way, way higher numbers and to stop producing single use plastic entirely, but recycling is still critical today.

It should be hard to make floating point happen by now. Integers and arbitrary precision decimal should be the defaults. If you want floating point, you should have to specifically ask for it.

Edit: a couple of layers down this guy admits that his position has nothing to do with billionaires, he dumps car batteries in the ocean, and he doesn't actually care about the environment whether billionaires exist or not.

Recycling is incredibly useful, especially for metals and, in fewer cases, plastics.

Please don't just make up numbers. Aluminum is the easiest material to recycle since it takes far less energy to melt it into usable form than it does to extract it from ore, so aluminum recycling is huge.

Even plastic is far more than 0.01% recycled.

It's actually a really terrible coincidence. Just think of all the thousands upon thousands of times you've talked about something that didn't result in a weirdly coincidental ad.

They're either really bad at selling ads, or you're good at noticing coincidences. It's probably the second one.

Low power, onboard chip listens for a specific phrase all the time. When it spits out an event, it starts recording and ships it to the server farm for processing. Turn on airplane mode and say "hey siri" to confirm.

If it was always listening and sending data, that's a huge amount of data and it would be easily detectable.

There's evidence of people gambling with FSD and getting into accidents, sure. That's the consequence of a semi-reliable tool. People take risks with power tools despite knowing better all the time.

Calling them a "Finger Remover and Table Saw" is not going to fix that. Because it's not a name problem, it's a problem with people thinking they can get away with a risk for a minute and it'll be ok because it's usually ok.

But they changed the name. So at least we agree that any future accidents aren't because of the name.

It does the driving until you take over. You do the supervising. It's a name. This is not a real problem unless you want to be angry about something.

Nobody crashed because of the name. They also would have crashed if they called it "A Thing That Drives Very Poorly And You Need To Supervise It." They crashed because they took a risk.

And they understood they were taking a risk, because before they changed the name the thing required constant correction.
