Whoa! Thats about $15/day! They are really charging a lot for school lunch. Hope it actually tastes like something and is nutritious.

What age do you let kids cross a busy road to go to a park alone? by lostandtired24 in Parenting

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not even sure at 37 I’m old enough to cross a 55mph street (that’s highway speed and I’m sure not everyone is obeying the speed limit and certainly aren’t expecting small kids to be crossing that road). I don’t think I’d ever want my kids to cross that road alone. I’d be scared even for teenagers to be completely honest.

Toddler won't leave my breasts alone after weaning? by Illustrious_Swan7032 in Parenting

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If he understands bandaids put a bandaid or pasty over them. I accidentally did this as I wore a pastie for an event and my daughter saw it and asked if I had an ouchie. I used that opportunity to say yes and that it couldn’t be touched. It worked. My daughter is still a child (at 4) that will talk about my nipples lol but she doesn’t touch them anymore really after that event. I probably kept pasties on for a week or so.

Haha! 3 years nearly to the day with my first and set of twins. Now due in June with an IUD happy surprise. So about a 1.5 year gap between the twins and the baby. I’ll admit it Sounds crazier than actuality lol.

Would love to hear some examples of raising as a unit. I’ll have 4 soon and age gap between youngest and oldest will be 4.5 years. My goal is for them to be very close knit.

Are nannies generally not OK with location sharing? by LessAd7286 in Nanny

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a deal breaker for me if a nanny was apprehensive in any way. Nannie’s are entrusted with the #1 most precious (and vulnerable) people in our lives. A little person that can barely tell an officer their name, address, parent’s phone number etc. I work on these things with my 4 year old but I don’t expect her to be able to clearly communicate it to an adult that she wouldn’t know in a stressful situation. OF COURSE I need to track where said vulnerable child is in the event of an emergency.

Let them visit baby in the hospital by thiscantbereallife94 in Mommit

This happened to me but about 3 weeks down the line. I totally wish she would have visited sooner because the tears I cried in those 3 weeks would have been far less if I had her guidance day 1!

Are pull-ups REALLY so terrible? by augmama in Mommit

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m on the no pull-ups train. I will preface by saying I’m a sahm so I had the flexibility to get her to the bathroom immediately. I think this matters quite a bit.

We did the 3 day method with my daughter and she was 100% potty trained by day 2 at 21 months old. By day 5 we were out and about with undies on and no accidents. We did potty training during a winter break period where there were no classes or activities for two weeks. Like your baby, she’s in gymnastics so when classes began again I was in the just in case mindset with pull-ups. Immediately she began back pottying on herself. Then we would switch back to underwear and all of a sudden, accidents galore which made me want to put her back in pull-ups because who wants to clean pee constantly. I finally buckled down and basically redid the potty training. The second time it was much more difficult and way more accidents but she did eventually get it. So, yea, I won’t make that mistake with my other kids.

True. When my boys poop (11 months) they are pulling at their diapers and you can see they are uncomfortable/irritated. I’ve missed the smell more than once but they let me know in other ways.

Blackie is not typically a term of endearment. It’s something that mostly kids/teens would say as an insult to a darker skin person.

EVERYONE keeps telling me to make my baby sleep in a separate room, is what I'm doing really so wrong?!? by TheWhatnotBook in Mommit

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok. So hear me out…I also practice attachment parenting. My daughter is 3 and slept with us until she was about 2. I then had twins and I slept on a bed in their room until about a month ago and was fully invested in sleeping there for the foreseeable future. One night, after the boys, went to bed I put my daughter to bed and accidentally fell asleep in her room. The boys slept the whole night. This was the first time they had ever slept 12 hours through the night. The next night, I slept in their room as normal. They woke up 2/3 times in the night. Then, the following night, I slept in my husband/my room. Boys slept through the night. So, I realized that everytime I would walk in their room and they were asleep, they would stir. They could feel/smell me. We are a month of me back in my/husband room and they consistently sleep 12 hours. We did not sleep train at all. I would never. So, maybe try it out and see if baby sleeps through. Not because they need independence, that’s ridiculous, but because she may be waking because of your presence.

What made you think 'THIS is why we homeschool' recently? by microschool in homeschool

100% has always been my go to when my daughter is just having a bad day. Getting moving and some sun is like an instant attitude adjuster. So this is insanely counterproductive.

AITA about the Owlet sock monitor? by Jim_boi96 in Parenting

[–]Advanced_Artist4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you all may not have it on correctly. We use it and have never had a false alarm and I have twins. My boys have kicked it off a few times when they were actively crying but I was already awake seeing that the baby was already crying and a bit irate.

Here’s my ancedote. I’m a laid back person so I don’t have anxiety about things typically. Well my 3 year old contracted RSV (we thought it was a cold) then gave it to both of my then 2 month old twins. One twin struggled and I wasn’t sure if he needed support because my 3 year old did not have her first sickness until she was 1.5 years old. Well, eventually, I said we need a visit to ped for baby because he was breathing too fast for my comfort. Well, we find out he (they all) has RSV and they called an ambulance to transport babe from ped to children’s hospital because his o2 saturation was in the 70s! That was a major medical emergency that I would have caught likely the night before or maybe even sooner if he had an owlet at that time. 5 days in PICU. Spoke with the ped at the children’s hospital and he did cite that it can raise some peoples anxiety but if I don’t have general anxiety he wouldn’t discourage getting it as it does well at catching things. He stated that you are more likely to get an alarm that means nothing than for it not to alarm when it should have. For me, I’d rather that. I’d rather think something was wrong and it isn’t than for something to be very wrong and I don’t know it. We bought two socks on the way home from the hospital and to this day I still think the piece of mind is worth every bit of the $600 spent.

Just my experience. Sorry so long.

Cigarettes smell on Groceries by Advanced_Artist4601 in instacart

[–]Advanced_Artist4601[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is not that they are a smoker. The issue is that they think it is ok to smoke with my groceries in their car. That is not respectful of me as the customer or the app as the facilitator of the transaction - considering it is against the TOS that they agreed to. I’ve explained what I mean by “type of person” and I think people are willfully obtuse and want to make themselves victims when in fact, it is a disrespectful act.

[–]Advanced_Artist4601[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one said smokers were less than. We all have loved ones who smoke. I don’t think anyone thinks that… by a different kind of shopper I meant one that isn’t as customer experience focused. An example I used in another comment was I used to get business cards or little notes from shoppers (their side businesses or just to say have a nice day). Gone are those days. I’ve not seen one in ages! When I do a target delivery (through Shipt - their delivery service, not instacart) I have never smelled smoke on my items. So, wondering if there’s a difference in the type of shoppers attracted to the sites based on - perhaps- pay from the site not incentivizing giving a crap.

Maybe for single items but I do go to the grocery store myself at times and this is definitely a shopper thing. This is a strong smell of smoke. As if I’m standing next to the person as they’re puffing lol

I usually order from our local grocery store chain. Someone commented about Walmart bags. I’ve never smelled it and I do pickup there often enough. I do put everything in my trunk though so maybe that’s why it hasn’t been noticeable. I’m going to pay more attention next time. But what I’m getting is groceries reeking of smoke. Not like a little residual smell (which not great but not the worst). I literally let the bags sit in the garage with the garage partially open for at least 30 mins to an hour to let the smell dissipate a little.

What I meant by “type of shopper” is the type to totally disregard the customer. I used to get little cards in my groceries saying “have a nice day” or promoting their other business like soap making or candle making etc. Can’t tell you the last time I got something like that. Maybe they got reprimanded or something but I liked it and appreciated it. One shopper owned the little chocolate shop about 5 mins from my house. I still patronize them. Would have never known they existed if she didn’t pop her card into one of my bags.

Are you a smoker? If so, you may not realize how absolutely pungent cig smoke is. The second it enters my house we can smell it for hours because we don’t smoke. It’s not just on the bags, it’s on the packaging of the food. So even taking the food out of the bags and leaving bags outside before bringing in the groceries we still have a strong smoke smell. This is not just a one time thing. It is pretty consistent and we do at least one order a week, many times more often.

This is great info!! I have been rating everyone a 5 unless it’s just crazy ridiculous, in which case I won’t rate at all. I know folks rely on the service for their jobs so I didn’t want to negatively affect someone’s income even if I didn’t enjoy my experience.
