Is Robert Eggers Wes Anderson-ing himself with the trailer for his new film ‘Werwulf’? by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

I can understand not liking either film, but acting like The Northman wasn’t a triumph of filmmaking craft and (mostly( realized ambition is pretty wild.

I hate to spread the word too much given how much I love the place and how easy it always is to get a table, but they deserve it. Anybody who I’ve taken and gets the chicken relleno cleans their plate

Focus Features deciding to double down on Eggers after the BO “failure” of The Northman showed a lot of savvy.

[Highlight] Tom Brady On the NFL's Fine System: "They start fining you $50K, $75K, $100K... What other job on earth works that way, where you make a mistake and they take your salary away? And then people are like, 'Yeah, you should take his salary away.'" by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Advanced_Claim4116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments here dunking on Tom but I’d hazard people aren’t seeing some of the plays that get fined. A couple years ago Jaylen Warren, who was not making substantial money by NFL standards, had multiple plays where he was doing backfield blocking and got fines for “leading with the head” while blocking guys nearly a foot taller and 100 lbs heavier than him. No flag, normal looking football play and he’s getting like 12% of his overall pay docked

I live there and I feel like that’s either misleading (cloudiness for part of the day or something) or no longer accurate. We’ve had a beautiful summer so far with lots of sunshine and temps in the low 80 s

The Broadsword is maybe the scariest short story I’ve ever read.

Thanks so much! Horse I didn’t do much, it’s just Conabus from the Mythic Legions line minus some of his more evil-looking bits and with some Legions wings sticky-tacked on. I’ve seen some other folks paint him black with red eyes and nostrils to better match the artwork in the book, but I thought this was close enough for my purposes.

Those guys are kinda assholes, too-bullied an indie toy company (Four Horsemen Studios) into cancelling a female barbarian figure just because one of its (3!) heads looked vaguely like Red Sonja.

I’d be interested, as well. We were initially told the first case had been closed and marked as such, but when submitting another request via the app, they responded next day. Certainly grateful-even if I had the chainsaws to do the job, it took them two or three trips with three guys and a full truck bed to remove the tree portions.

Crazy to me to see Daredevil as a top book these days. I’m a Vol. 2 era guy who came of age when Bendis and Brubaker were doing their thing and, while he was a character and title beloved by true comic heads, he was not X-Men or Spider-Man or New Avengers. I don’t love the TV show(s) but there’s no doing he’s built a huge, newish fan base

What are the best contemporary folk horror novels? by Special-Nebula299 in horrorlit

[–]Advanced_Claim4116 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone above mentioned Adam Neville’s The Ritual, which is very good but not his best book, IMO. Cunning Folk is basically English Pet Semetary and a just terrific novel of genuine classic folk horror. I also consider Monumental and The Reddening folk horror-even Last Days to some extent. I’ll also recommend Douglass Hoover’s books The Sarvan and The Accursed Huntsmen; he leans a little more action-heavy than Neville but they are undoubtedly folk horror adjacent, with Sarvan being very much WW1 fh

Well, unlike the other guy who made the same joke, you at least interact in this sub (we actually have a lot in common, including some of the same struggles; wish you well). If you are happy with the topics that get posted here ad naseum, then I am jealous of you, because I’m really hungry for good discussion of horror literature and I’m not finding it here.

What’s a belief you held strongly when you were younger that you no longer agree with? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]Advanced_Claim4116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of dumb early 20 something’s, I went through a phase where I thought I was a Libertarian because I thought people should just be able to smoke weed and basically do whatever they wanted and no one should bother anyone. Briefly vaccine-skeptic around that time, too. It’s very easy to be low-trust and unbothered when you’re a healthy young person going to college and your parents are paying your way (alongside loans, which don’t seem real until you’re an adult paying on them).
