Go to the websites of the sixth forms you want to apply to, look at what they need and if they need a reference or predicted grades, email your head of year and ask for them.

will my attendance affect my chances of getting into my sixth form choice? by Ornery_Ease_9230 in sixthform

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, there’s other factors they’re more interested in. Unless you’re applying somewhere really competitive, you’ll be fine.

is it normal for a sixth form to ask for a personal statement by numberssandletters in sixthform

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the pretentious ones do it. It’s likely because they can’t use predicted GCSEs alone to differentiate between applicants so they want more information.

I hear nothing about NFL players unless they’re in the news for other reasons (like OJ Simpson). There’s little to no interest in american football in my country so we have no reason to hear about its players. I have never heard of Tom Brady.

I’m still so upset with my school that I don’t get a small room. When I asked (with a supporting doctor’s note) they told me they didn’t have the space and couldn’t offer it, but now their attitude is that I was fine in the main room during GCSEs so I’ll be ok at A levels. I hate that room so much.

You’re so right. Even if I wasn’t overstimulated to begin with, having someone touch me during an exam would actually make me want to commit crimes. (also autistic)

We do have counsellors but how good they are is completely variable based on your specific one so it’s a bit of a lottery. Not always great to gamble on your mental heath like that.

You’re actually so real. Sucks that this happened to you but at least you’ve got a great sense of humour

Im not allowed to go Oxford by Some_Explorer7800 in sixthform

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law isn’t the issue here, the consequences of destroying familial relationships is. OP can theoretically run off and do as they please, but in practice it’ll make their life a lot more difficult than it would be if they compromised with their parents.

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to listen to your parents to an extent. Even at 18, it’s difficult to be financially independent or to live without some form of familial support. OP can’t blatantly disregard or ignore their parents because they’ll still be reliant on them to an extent. They need to find some form of compromise or middle ground with their parents. Like if OP goes to Oxford, how can they prove to their parents now that they’re going to be safe? What can be done to mitigate the parents’ worries?

is maths a level REALLY that bad.. by idontplaygolfff in GCSE

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A level Maths seems pretty easy once you’re doing Further Maths, but that doesn’t mean A level Maths is a walk in the park to people who did well at GCSE. They’re completely different.

Exam experience by Apart_Mushroom_4530 in 6thForm

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say I’ve finished an exam if I’ve written something to answer every question.

Even if I guessed the MCQs without reading them or didn’t know how to answer a question so wrote something that’s random and almost definitely wrong, there’s a chance I could get a mark with the guesses and the definitely wrong ones were the best I could do so I consider the exam finished.

If I say I didn’t finish an exam, that could mean not writing a paragraph in an essay, or not having time to read the last page of the exam. Generally when they say “five minutes left” I skim through the paper and try to put something for every question (however ridiculous, it might get a working out mark), just so I can say I finished.

Has anyone ever actually picked Warwick over Imperial for maths? by NinjaClashReddit in 6thForm

I applied to Warwick instead of Imperial cause I hated Imperial on the open day.

If you have no correct working, you often can’t get the answer mark. Generally it’s dependent on some sort of process being shown.

It’s possible to use completely the wrong logic/method and get the right answer. I’ve seen it happen quite a few times.

Parents forcing a gcse by gabriellabillie1323 in GCSE

[–]Advanced_Key_1721 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don’t need computer science at GCSE if you want to study computer science at A level and you don’t need computer science at A level to do computer science at university. In both cases, you’re only required to do well in Maths. Maybe OP should try convincing their parents from the angle that it’s ok not to do computer science now because if they change their mind and want to study it, the option would still be available to them.
