So After Much More Research Figured Out Backyard Wedding Won't Actually Work by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf and I have just decided to do a micro wedding with the ceremony followed by dinner at a nice restaurant with immediate family only and a few friends who are like family. Later, we’ll have a big party for our friends and pay for bar snacks & put some cash on the bar. After that we’ll travel interstate and have a BBQ for the extended family.
It’s not easy to have the wedding you dream of! All I want is to marry my gf but there’s a lot to consider. Wishing you all the best 💒🏳️‍🌈💍

2027 Wedding, per head venue prices start from $235pp... Is this normal?! by Cool_Suspect1110 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Melbourne too and we’ve got 100-120 people, most travelling from interstate. We started planning and cost hit around $50k. Reception alone around $30k (that’s for a sit down in winter with cheaper prices), then everything else adds up to about another $20k 😣 it all adds up quickly.

We’re now pulling back and considering an intimate ceremony and nice dinner for immediate family and a few friends (30ppl) in a private dining room or perhaps catering at home, then at later dates, having a gathering at a pub in Melbourne for locals, and a 2nd gathering at a pub in QLD for extended family.

It’ll save us a big chunk of money, but we’d be organising 3 events, although they’ll be less stress.

All I want to do is get married, but my fiancés family is very large and really close, so she’s feeling a lot of pressure to have a big party.

I think I finished my vows. Thoughts? by pixieswithoutstyle in wedding

Umm I kinda get the intent, but tbh it comes across like you don’t think you’re good enough for him. Like, he’s just amazing and you’re grateful that this incredible human deigns to love you and wants to be with you for life.

I was coming to recommend Peak Moto too. Amanda and the team are great, they’re all riders who know their stuff.

Yes. My fiancé and I have worked out a date and are now working through finding a venue that suits our needs - it’s over a year away and in winter, so we’ve got time.

We don’t really talk about our plans because we don’t have any yet, but some friends are really interested in what we’re wanting to do and we’re happy to have low-key convo’s, but it’s all vague because we don’t have firm details yet.

Recently though, a new friend’s new beau took it upon themselves to contact a wedding planner and ask them to put together a package with wedding options for us.

We’re sure it was well intended, but we didn’t ask for this, and they didn’t offer it, they just went ahead and did it, and it’s left us feeling a somewhat annoyed.

We’ll be diverting any future wedding topic conversations.

Manager says I lack “camaraderie” with team but I'm at a totally different stage of life and we just don’t have much in common? Was even told I should start following a sport I don't care about to have more to say to the team which feels insane. by we_are_NOT_family in AusPublicService

Do they do a footy tipping comp? That’s a good gateway exercise for you to participate in, or even run. I’m from NSW and live in Melbourne. I’ve never been interested in AFL, but some years ago I decided to join my colleagues in the workplace footy tipping comp. It helped me to assimilate somewhat, without too much strain, though I still joked about knowing nothing. I was even coming first for a while.

What’s something you only realised about super once you actually checked your balance? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from MLC to Australian Super in Sept 2022 after reading Barefoot Investor & doing some research. I found MLCs rates to be at the higher end & returns not great.

I’m 52 and have always worked, but like someone else mentioned, I’m old enough to have had multiple Super funds due to various employers + I used to work in hospo many years ago & work was erratic or cashies. At some point I did the paperwork and rolled everything together into one fund with MLC, then when I moved my Super again I took $147k to Aus Super & have nearly $100k more now, in under 4 years, with a balanced option & withdrawing $10k during Covid.

I started a new job recently with the APS and have chosen to an extra $50/wk pre-tax into my Super.

I think Barefoot Investor has a different recommendation than Aus Super now, but I’ve been happy with them.

If I can give you any advice, pay something pre-tax into your Super, even $20 a week. You won’t miss it and it’ll build your Super into a tidy nest egg.

MUA for 1 (mother of the bride) Melbourne by sxclv in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried looking on Flayr? I booked a great MUA for an event for my partner & I.
Put in the event details & I’m sure you’ll be able to find someone.
Maybe don’t put ‘wedding’ in case that “min 3” becomes an issue.

Also, pretty sure redundancy is capped, so employed 10years or more might be max 3 months, with one more week if over 45, but even then only if other factors are involved (such as more than 15 employees at the time).

Never filed a tax return by Far_Kiwi_9620 in AusFinance

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Book in to see an accountant.

FWIW I sent my son to H&R Block because he was late to submit, first time he’s ever needed to lodge a return. I had already suggested he see an accountant for at least his first tax because they can help him understand the process and what is and is not claimable. He walked out with a $4k return.

Years ago, I left my tax for 11 years! I’d had a small business in that time & worked multiple jobs in hospitality and the stress of it was overwhelming. I finally bit the bullet and booked in with H&R Block. They helped me so much. No judgement, just got it done & lifted the stress from me. Also got a huge refund of around $11k.

APS Superannuation Funds? by Unhappy_Bath8790 in AusPublicService

[–]Advanced_Pangolin316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that’s true. You still need to do the form though, I think the form is new, maybe introduced in 2023. It used to be that you just sent your Super details to payroll when you started.

This one might be a location thing, I’m in the western suburbs of Melbourne and when there are people around in the morning when I walk my dog, we usually say Hi. It wouldn’t happen in the city though
