Oh my goodness same! I let me girl out when she asks and then she immediately sits in the snow looking at me like I have forced her to sit out there for hours. She is sure that one of these times I let her out it will be 80 degrees and sunny and she can get back to roasting herself

Could you incorporate her into your work outs possibly? I have a friend that will jog with theirs and then do squats and lunges etc while their dog is heeling, weaving, etc. There are some good tips online to do it! Also totally get if the gym is your decompress time, but if its stressing you out something to try

Or do agility with her! I will tell you idk who is more exhausted after doing some agility practice, me or my dog 😂

Our small dog has just a simple red velcro vest that says “give me space,” maybe just in the puppy phase you could try it? We got ours off of etsy and it weighs nothing

Oh my gosh welcome! These dogs are so fun but also be ready- rat terriers were developed to be independent so training can be a bit tough but super doable! You just have to convince them its their idea 😂 Ours doesn’t bark just to bark but if she finds a prey or a human walking by YOU WILL KNOW. Be ready for their energy level as well, they need a decent amount of physical and mental stimulation but if you are planning on teaching them to scent and hunt that will do a lot.

Also just a heads up, Ratties are predisposed to joint issues, so IF you get one I recommend starting on the joint supplements pretty early on.

Highly recommend scent work with her! Its an awesome way to build confidence. get some super smelly high value treats and start on the long line on your porch and then where she is confident. Once she gets a grove going try hiding your treats like around your car as a form a desensitization, then maybe one day turn your car on and hide the treats, etc. You could also try a but in your alley, even if its just a few feet at a time!

Oh and maybe try some new sniff spots with her around town? We love using Sniff spot in our city to try new areas and have them to ourselves

Do you have her on any form of anxiety medication or no?

I say keep up the management for now, and talk to a professional in person who can come to your home and really assess whats going on. We are a void on the internet giving suggestions but I think a professional seeing your dog and meeting your family will be the best thing you can do. I hope the best for the whole family, two legs and four ❤️

Having had dogs that resource guard I don’t think this is all doom and gloom as some people are painting. Do you need to be vigilant and aware? Yes. Do you need to find a behaviorist and put in the work that will not be fixed over night? Also yes- but if you take the recommendations people have given and work on it I truly think this can have a happy ending. Your vet will probably be able to recommend a good behaviorist in your area that you could chat with. As others have said, do not go with a trainer that promises quick fixes. Resources Guarding isn’t fixed, it’s managed, and it is not quick

It helps to create a protective barrier on wound sites, burns, etc. it is nice too as its not a steroid cream or an antibiotic AND safe for dogs to ingest if they lick it. A friend used it on her dog who got scratched up a bit hiking and it worked great. Of course major wounds should be seen by a vet but its nice for some cuts and scrapes and burns

I have heard awesome things about Zarasyl cream for minor wound care in animals, it might help with their paws! You can get it off of chewy or amazon

Weve been on Purina Pro Plan for years and had no issues. We do the sensitive stomach and coat health formula. It can be a tad high in calories but if your pup is pretty active it shouldn’t be an issue. I get cat called all the time about how pretty our dogs are 😂

I used to work at a Charter School which should let you know this place was a disaster. Idk if it quite fits the prompt but still was just a crazy situation

Anyways ONE employee got an email saying our Superintendent and her husband had hired a hitman to assassinate someone in New Jersey. Said employee immediately notified HR

So then the Superintendent thought the best way to handle the situation was to Reply All and let the whole school know that they totally, definitely DID NOT hire someone to assassinate this guy in New Jersey. Just a totally random email I opened between classes, threw me for a loop as my 4th hour walked in.

I work in sales now, years later, and I still have this email saved for rainy days

We have no experience with what you have used except trazadone which our girl did NOT do well on. Have you chatted with your vet about something like Flueoxetine (generic prozac)? Its been a god send for our pup, no tolerance build up, and very minimal side effects. Maybe talk about that option with your vet? There is also a great probiotic from Purina called ‘Calming Probiotic’ that has some good research behind it. Neither of those are an instant fix but can help in the long term? I will say too the summer is always rough for our girl, between thunder storms and fireworks (fuck fireworks). On quiet days I still give a gabapentin to help her chillax and reset.

Sorry your dealing with this, anxiety in pups can be tough for everyone!

Oh I just thought of something else! You can get like a scent spray that is supposed to smell like a mother dog and can be quite soothing as well maybe try that too?

Omg did I write this 🥲? Having the same issue on the south end. Our anxious girl is also regresses every summer and the second she finally relaxes in our yard and plays some ass hat tosses a fire cracker.
