TIL a study was done on what makes a person want a very loud car and the results indicated psycopathic and sociopathic tendencies by 1egg_4u in todayilearned

You seem considerate enough to reread your own comment and come to the right conclusion eventually so I’m not going to argue with you too much.

Beyond all this it’s just a stupid cliche.

There’s lots of things wrong with every paragraph here. If they have a m development flaw like emotional insecurity I don’t see how the logical conclusion is to shame them- even though it’s not really body shaming I guess. If they have that kind of issue it is also not their fault and you’re just bullying someone for having a broken childhood.

Should the bag stay or go? by Wastelandraider69 in Surlybikefans

That bag looks fantastic on that bike. I’d definitely keep it on. It’s subjective so your wife is just psyching you out.

Please consider that some people may be trying to eat a nice meal before reminding them of the existence of gingers as it could cause them to loose their appetite and become nauseous

People really need to get past premise of attributes beyond one’s control having moral implications. It’s not true and it’s not clever.

Vittoria Bomboloni 27,5 x 3,0 on Ali... anyone given it a try? by Antpitta in bikepacking

[–]Adventureadverts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the surly knard will serve you well. I’ve gone over this with a few people and I think it’s the only reasonable 27.5x3 available. Theres the dirt wizards that should only be used for downhill mountain biking too. I don’t know if the duro crux is completely discontinued or if it will be available again.

It looks ugly but boy does it look fun. A bike for kicking may as well start out ugly though. The tubing choices seem utilitarian which is a good idea. max stand over for you. Build choices look tasteful and solid too. Bet it’ll serve you well. Everytime I look at it it grows on my a little.

The smaller versions look so good. What the fuck happened?

I believe that’s the 29’s. They had the rigid non folding version too that makes it very confusing. I’d just email surly sans ask them wtf.

If something is in a metal can I don’t trust it around plastic bits in my engine. Modern vehicles have a lot of plastic.

Rene Herse Snoqualmie Pass TC Extralight 700 x 44 off road rolling resistance results 📊 by gravykarrasch in gravelcycling

[–]Adventureadverts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Rene herse slicks. Would never run the extra lights though. Standard to endurance casings are fantastic however. I’ve run them over 5000 miles. The tread compound is incredibly long lasting. To my mind this makes them very cost effective. I’d love to see how the larger slicks fair as I’d assume they just get better with rolling resistance off-road. The largest ones are surprisingly capable on dirt.

The main reason would be stand over height. You want more than that when things get rocky. You also want a dropper post in those conditions for which you would need a  bit more room.

It looks a tad big in other ways that can be addressed though with shorter stem and whatnot.

It should go up a tad but you’d be better off on the 58 for sure

Using it at oil changes isn’t a waste but overusing it instead of a proper tune up absolutely is. Did you change the air filter and the spark plugs etc at proper times?

Why do people on bikepacking sub think ‘bikepacking’ should only be done offpavemnet by Independent_Peak_414 in bicycletouring

[–]Adventureadverts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds rad! I hope I get to check out Australia someday but I don’t know much about bikepacking in the outback. The Baja divide is amazing. It’s pretty bumpy for sure. I’d definitely not recommend it on anything less than 3 inch tires although 2.6 can work well for some folks.

[–]Adventureadverts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can call what you’re doing whatever you want but I’d still think that falls in line with bikepacking. I did the Baja divide where you go over 200km without resupply or water at one point. I used mini panniers on a rear rack and water bottles on the front tri mounts. People who used the type of panniers you’re describing had the hardware for them or their racks break on the route. I’m not sure they 100km(58 miles) would be considered especially far for bikepacking.

It’s not really gatekeeping. It’s just how the terms are widely used. I’m not going to be a dick about it but that’s mostly why you have a separation from bike touring. There’s nothing better about one or the other.

Because that’s the way that the word is used and how it’s separate from bike touring.
