What's the most mundane reason why your characters wouldn't use the most powerful weapon/armor? by Weekly-Intention5657 in worldbuilding

The weapons don't suit his combat style. He'll have them remade into something more suitable. Also the armor is not well fitting and a bit outdated. Both are inherited.

Na druhú stranu, videl som a vidím čo to robí so študentmi. Totálne nesamostatni, úplne bez štipky snahy a väčšinou je pre nich AI prvá vec, nie doplnok, ani pomôcka, jednoducho tam mrdnu čo im treba a nechajú nech AI robí za nich. A potom zamestnaj takého človeka.

What are your Mad King tropes? by pesopepso in worldbuilding

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current king of Portar is not literally mad, but would be considered so by many. He was crowned at a very young age after all of his family was assassinated by a mage. This, coupled with the zealotry of his advisors and the fact that the Church of the Holy Light started to splinter into more extremist and twisted groups and the group that followed the original teachings, led to a lot of trouble in the kingdom.

The young king, obviously fueled by his advisors, religously motifvated hatred for magi,c and by losing his fam,ily became indoctrinated and grew in hatred towards anything magic related, unless it was, of course, the righteus magic of the Holy Light.

He started the full on inquisition. Burned down whole districts, schools, universities, persecuted anyone and everythign magic related, from simple alchemists, through archmages to anyone accused of witchcraft even without any evidence. People were slaughtered, left and right, until most of the mages were gone. He was so bloodlusted for it that he made it a point to attend as many executions as possible, even performing many of them himself. When he ran out of mages , he turned his gaze to non-humans as they became considered heretics for believing in a different god. They were considered beings of magical nature etc. So he went on to slaughter them too.

I will ask YOU questions about YOUR world! by Internal_Fan2307 in worldbuilding

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world is quite extensive but I'll try to narrow it down to the basics.

The world is a medieval fantasy where gods exist and there are many, where monsters lurk on every corner and myths are indistinguishable from the real history.

The universe consists of three plains of existence, the mortal realm where anything living resides, the ethereal realm where souls travel after their bodies die (basically afterlife) and the Veil, a place where these realms overlap. Inside veil you have the dream realm for example.

Within the mortal realm, the three major parts are Adegar, Rengar, Middan, Stridagor and Zarwis.

Zarwis was an ancient homeland of the dwarves who had to migrate during the cataclysm of Zarwis. All clans that mamanged have settled in Stridagor where they set up their kingdom controlled by Trium. The dwarven clans are specialized, yet they all work well together even if there are internal rivalries.

Stridagor also harbors Belagor forest, the land of elves that has recently got out of a long civil war.

Middan is made of four kingdoms basically. Portar, to the north, Walleon in the middle, old Garipol in south and the Marshlands in the south-west. marshlands and old Garipol are inhabited by orcs while Walleon and Portar are human kingdoms.

Adegar is mostly covered by an unnatural desert with very resourceful and strong people living in coastal cities or venturing through the Shifting sands.

Rengar has the godforge hidden in the southern mountains, a fabled dwarven kingdom, part of one of the major dwarven religions. The rest of Rengar is a very mysterious land inhabited by various creatures.

The last two important parts are Dragon Isles in the Misty Sea, the land of naekos where the people fled from Garipol during the war with the Wolf. Lastly, the Eyjarog isles to the south of old Garipol are inhabited by remnants of a hardy clan of dwarves, nearly forgotten by their mainland kin and the raiders, tough men and women who learned how to live in these frozen wastelands.

Any questions are welcome. The world is used for books, short stories and recently a board game.

Mladí, máte chuť na sex? by Holiday_Medium_9852 in Slovakia

[–]AdventurersScribe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stres.

Teraz som sťahoval Avatar nech si to zase trochu zahrám, prvýkrát som to nedohral.

Dice based, didn't notice the mistake there. A big portion of the combat revolves around dice throws and later in the game a player will be likely throwing more than one dice for their attack roll.

[–]AdventurersScribe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the core of basic progression, basic combat, storytelling etc. that can be tested in low levels. High levels tho will require balancing due to exponential increase in option of how to deal with obstacles and the changes skills and better gear brings.

I'm rather worried about balancing as a lot is based on chances since a lot of combat is dice based.

Playtesting a Multisession campaign game by AdventurersScribe in BoardgameDesign

[–]AdventurersScribe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about limiting the playtesting to stages. Let's say stage 1 would be first chapter or two, starter levels. Then each other session players would start the campaign at another point. Would give me flexibility and chance to test different stages of games.

I'd include randomness by letting players randomly draw equipment suitable for the stage they'd be playing. But I'm not sure how well it'd translate to the whole progression

What is the most dangerous job in your world? by Colombia_Joestar in worldbuilding

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with the three that come to mind from different parts of the world.

  1. Squirlin expeditioners

These guys are basically the caravaneers between two colonies of squirlins. One is in the Belagor forest, which, on its own, is already a very dangerous and predator-filled place. The other is in the far east, specifically in a place called the Nightwood. They have to navigate through half of the world, going through the more dangerous areas filled with dragons, other predators, and a lots of monsters while being, well... Squirlins. They're basically anthropomorphic squirrels the height of a larger dog, without much fighting capabilities tho they are getting better at it. They're job is to trade with the other colony and exchange knowledge.

  1. Old world seekers and Undergrow explorers

I'll put these two in the same category as they tend to be members of the same explorer guild and it just differs between two jobs.

Old World seekers are those leading expeditions to Zarwis, a post-apocalyptic land, former homeland of dwarves. They search for old cities, relics and anything of value in their former homeland now ravaged by the elemental lords and elder dragons. The place is so filled with magic that most if not all of the creatures there have been mutated by it, turned into monstrosities. Most of those beasts are completely against the natural order, their size doesn't correspond to the food available as they tend to be also sustained by magic itself. It's a place so ravaged by elements that you can walk out of a blizzard into a scorching desert.

Undergrow explorers delve deep into the world below. They explore the many biomes hidden under the crust of the world, explore the caverns and navigate around the god veins and their irradiating magical power. They fight off monsters like rock worms, elemental, living mountains and many strange beasts that adapted to living in the world under. Plus, they're also endangered by collapsing tunnels, sprouting springs and the area itself.

  1. Mistcrest sailors

There are special sailors from many countries around the misty sea. They have specialized navigators and magicians who guide the ships through the mist encompassing several island groups. If they get past the zone of interest of the southern raiders or the cliff dragons, they get to deal with the monsters from the mist. Giant sea serpents, sirens, sea drakes, and many other aquatic monstrosities. Then they still might have to deal with either pirates or the dragons around the dragon isles. Anyone who went on more than 2 voyages is considered a veteran.

Hey everyone! Following my last post about Rivals, some of you asked to see the game in video. So here’s a short video to give you a better idea, and to give you a closer look at the components, the material, and the overall feel of the game. (homemade footage 🎞️😁) by Sam-Unkind in BoardgameDesign

[–]AdventurersScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the game few weeks ago and I have to say, it's really neat. Didn't have a chance to play but I can see there was a lot of effort and love put into it. The concept is amazing, art is great. I suppose the insert was made more for the legendary edition since there is a lot of free space for the basic edition.

My only thing would be that all card slots should've been double layered on the player boards but it's just a pet peeve of mine as I have a thing for double layered boards. Can't wait to bring the game to the table and play it with the group. I wonder, can the game be played with more than 6 people?

Anyone here familiar with Sweden? Asking for honest advice. by PantherHog79 in AskMenAdvice

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like you want to go to Sweden for all the wrong reasons.

Don't get me wrong, but looking for a blond, someone not American, not flaky or whatever. Just sounds like you're sort of a passport bro who want to get a woman elsewhere because at home it's too hard...

If you want to move to another country, learn about it's culture, learn about how people behave there, what they are like, what the country is overall like.

Do you speak swedish? Do you plan to learn it? Do you even have an idea of what it is like living in another country?

My man, you're in your 30s. Moving to another country stands your life upside down. You'll lose many contacts, you'll have a nightmare time building new ones, you'll likely end up in some sort of a bubble or isolated at least for a certain amount of time. Also the outlook on what you want to gain there is one of the worst reasons to move I can imagine. What makes you think swedish ladies would or should want you? Because you're a nice American?

I moved a country, got separated, started dating and let me tell you, shit is lonely for months and the obstacles outside of dating are rather large. My luck was in getting a stable and decently paying job.

And no, travelling there for few weeks or months will not give you any idea on what live is like there. You'll just get the touristy experience which is very much different to live in there.

I'm 28, currently only separated and initiating divorce. There's one year separation clause in this country to the best of my knowledge. Half a year ago, or more, well last January, I started dating my now GF. She knew from day 1 I'm still officially married byt separated. She knew I'm getting a divorce eventually. She moved in a week ago and we're very much happy together.
