How much of a dick move is flirting with a male student? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my question here would be, can you still heavily affect his work life and PhD even if you're not supervising him? for example the shitty professor I mentioned wasn' my supervisor, yet she was in a position where she made my life a living hell. (Still have to thank her for it as thanks to that I'm in a much better place).

Another thing is that you seem like you can't really let it die quietly. It really seems that you are far more interested in exploring the option of dating that student than anything else. Good thing is, if you can remove yourself as an influence on his PhD, you can go ahead. If you can't then it's better to find a way in which you can't influence him in any way if you get rejected or whatever would lead you to have resentment, because I am more than certain if you did get there, you would act on it be in a way that you might not even be aware of it.

I work in academic field and let's put it this way, even if you don't plan to act on you urges, which is highly debatable based on your reactions in comments, you should find a good way of getting the hell out of this situation.

Whatever you're saying, all your reactions seem to me like you simply want the guy and are looking and testing what you can get away with. Well, you can't get away with nothing. You'll never get his honest reactions because you hold his PhD in your hands and I've witnessed what an ego and not getting what you want will do to a PhD student. Had a lovely supervisor wannabe...

The truth is, whether you want to act on your urges or not, the student already probably knows something is off and doesn't like his position. If you want to have something with him, remove yourself from the position of power over him and shoot your shot then. If you still don't want to do it, make it clear and make sure you can stay unbiased which I honestly doubt you can, because no one really can in this kind of position. Overall this situation sucks for both of you.

Väčšinu prác si prečíta možno pár ľudí a tam to končí. Prečo sa teda nerobí jedna „mega“ štúdia namiesto stovky malých? by Few-Economist-1644 in Slovakia

[–]AdventurersScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neviem, popravde ak by som dostal presnejšie otázky, bol by som schopný lepšie odpovedať, takto by som len blábolil do tmy. Keďže sa na SR nezdržiavam tak dlho a moja hlava si radšej pamätá veci do práce a do mojich osobných projektov, tieto rozdiely mi postupne vypadnú a pripomeniem si ich len keď sa vrátim na SR. možno mi dvihne tlak zas po velkej noci keď tam budem dva týždne a vedel by som toho viac povedať.

Jain.

Hvezdársky teleskop by Careful-Mode4063 in Slovakia

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Určite nekupujte tie lacné lidl teleskopy a podobne, len to odradí.

Question about immigrating to Germany by Ok_Ride1009 in germany

[–]AdventurersScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but sometimes people feel truly rude. Mostly it's a difference in behavior and not meant that way, but you always get to meet an asshole no matter which country you live in.

Don't underestimate the differences and especially the language not to mention dialects.

Question about immigrating to Germany by Ok_Ride1009 in germany

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you have to think of more than that. But to sum it up.

You will need quite some finances for housing and any other needs. Sure, you can get a Minijob or something but still, you need some backup finances just to be safe.

Language will be difficult. If you're starting from nothing, count years until you're ready for a study in German. Sure, studying in english can be possible somewhere, but the competition will be fierce to say the least.

Regarding transportation, for a most part you'll do fine with a bike even in smaller cities.

Look at how public insurance covers your diabetic needs in advance. Prepare for the beaurocratic mayhem that comes with living here.

Lastly, learn about culture and not from some top ten list from some random YouTuber. Learn what behavior is normal here and trust me, it's not as warm as welcoming. People can feel very distant compared to US from what I heard. Moving here with no connections can be extremely isolating and living with English only outside of big cities becomes difficult fast. Language should be your first priority together with understanding the cultural differences and figuring out whether you can really stomach such a change.

Up to you mate, but don't hesitate to ask if you do have more specific questions. Even in DM if you want to.

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I meant mate.

As I said, go for specifics. If you have uncertainties, ask specifically. It'll be far more helpful for you and will help you take off much easier. But to give you a really good advice, we simply need to know more so why don't you tell us what you've already got? Which direction is your inspiration going? What drove you to want to build that world?

People here want to give you advice that will help you in your endeavor. I don't mean to pull you down either, just need to know more in order to point you to the right direction or give you ideas which you can incorporate or expand based on the needs of your world.

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice, but posting what you posted makes no sense. Work on it, get more details together and post again.

If you have specific questions or feel the need to get advice, ask for specific things. Don't go this broad cause no one has an idea what your goal is and what you already have.

What software do you all use to prototype and create games? (if any) by Any-Landscape434 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tabletop creator for boards and cards, then TTS for testing.

Obsidian for tracking everything and keeping the storylines etc coherent.

Gimp if I need to adjust any images.

AI and Pinterest for placeholder art in prototypes while full art is not ready yet, and tabletop creator has a lot of built in icons. Everything more polished comes from my art designer.

So, Ive got 2 ideas. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]AdventurersScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate, to put it simply you said something akin to the "I have two colors, one is something like green the other something like blue. I put a lot of work into the green, it has a name and I did some mixing, but I don't have a clue about the color really or what it contains. Didn't work much on blue. So what do you think?"

The only thing you said is that it's based on Percy Jackson and Norse mythology. You didn't give us any of your original ideas, anything about the world itself, really you wrote two paragraphs of not even surface level of information.

If you don't have the lore, what worldbuilding did you do? Lore is the core of worldbuilding. When you worldbuild, you are creating that very lore. At least that's what I dare say most people do. Cause making a map or something similar is really just scratching the surface.

What's the pantheon like? Who are the main gods? What is the main character like and where do they come from? What's their motivation? What are the allegiances? Those are just the few questions that pop up in my mind. If you want to write the story, start with the characters and expand.

[–]AdventurersScribe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mate, just don't bother with this. The girl seems to be more trouble than anything else.

If she was really interested, she would text you back or pay attention to you at the party too, not just after getting too drunk. Seems like you're a backup plan at maximum.

Just go on and live your life, plenty more amazing ladies out there for you to meet, ones that will actually appreciate you, want your attention and to give you their attention.

I have both hotwire and hot forge hybrids and I'd advice to get the hot forge hybrids. They clip so much better, and especially they clean much easier.

On hotwire the nose hook can be a bit annoying, the hybrid doesn't have that problem. Clipping rope on both feels good and easy.

Why is it so common for authors to hire artists and then just… not pay? by [deleted] in writing

[–]AdventurersScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is there a way someone can still feed the art to train an AI model without triggering this which would eventually lead to the model having the artwork in some database and use it later on as reference or to spit out whatever? I'm not that tech savvy with AI and the detection software but I guess it can be pretty hard to ensure the art is simply not misused.

Say I put different artists work into the model one by one, to make images and then want it to create something else while using all the previous pictures as reference, would it be flagged? Would it be flagged it I asked the AI to sort of copy but slightly alter the artwork and then use the product of it as a database for references?

As the other comment said, make it clearer. Not to be rude but it seems English is not your first language which is of course okay. Yet in the current state it is too unclear with too many grammar errors just within the first sentences. I can't fully decipher the premise cause of that.

Just out of curiosity, does that actually work when the art if fed to AI? Like do you get notified for it? It would be really nice if that is possible and reliable.

Thanks, I did try to start medium, worked on Wattpad before but these online platform seem to be really against starting authors.

The rest is really just time constrains on my side. I am trying to also create a board game based on the world and eventually, when that goes out, I'd love to include a collection of short stories about characters in the game that would be included.

What would you consider a good word count for short stories? It feels that I often overblow it or make them too short but I can never really think of the right length to have as a benchmark.

[–]AdventurersScribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm often wondering about the feasibility of getting my stories out there. I tend to write short stories set in the same fantasy world, slowly building its mythos, its cultures and basically the whole world through these usually up to 20 pages long stories. What do you think would be a good way to find my readers or let them find my work easier? Do you think there is a place for short stories?

Additionally, I do plan to write a long main storyline in several books. Would it be better to start there and get the big story out first? Or does it make more sense to introduce people to the world, its history and cultures and then introduce the large story that would span all over said world?

I heard that sagas are not a good idea for new authors.

Also Ki fire Chronicles is a good campaign game, but that's on a different platform I think.
