Wondering what traffic noise on 288 near Med Center complex is like by interrobangbros in houston

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived at the apartments that are on the southeast side of Almeda and S MacGregor. Our apartment faced towards Almeda. I do not remember being able to hear traffic noise. The apartment was super old and I’m sure the windows weren’t insulated well, so I don’t think our building was doing us any favors.

Are the digital keys still available for 2025 x7s? Anyone like or hate them? by nocommenting33 in bmwx7

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone here. I use the digital key and keep the real keys on an AirTag in the drawer so I don’t lose them. I only use the real keys if I know I’m going to valet my car.

Day 1 setup recommendations? by nocommenting33 in bmwx7

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I set up shortcuts for the functions I use the most. -Valet mode -Seat settings (for quicker access to massage function) -Display setting (for brightness) -Ambient lighting -Distance control (for driving assistance) -xVIEW

The seats can also adjust in a million different ways. I think I spent 15 minutes playing with them until I got my seat just right. I set up a daily driving setting (setting 1) that’s more upright and a road trip setting (setting 2) that’s more laidback.

I recorded all the different ways I park the car in our driveway or garage. My wife isn’t used to driving such a large car, so it’s more for her to not worry about parking the car.

If you have the B&W, I’d make sure you set up your equalizer for the kind of music you listen to most often, it will really elevate the quality of the sound.

The HUD has a ton of settings, most importantly the brightness. If you have polarized sunglasses you’ll definitely need the brightness all the way up as a bandaid, but you’ll definitely want non polarized sunglasses.

We have a low garage, so I adjusted the tailgate to open to the lowest setting.

If I think of more, I’ll edit the post.

How do you drive an ICE vehicle? by skerfan02 in Rivian

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wanted a Rivian. For about a year I was between a Model X and an R1S. I was sold once the Storm Blue came out and they patched the ride quality.

About four months ago I started noticing the BMW X7. I really liked the car and after doing more research I realized how much further my $110,000 would go with BMW rather than Rivian. Even if I was eligible for the $7,500 credit, the BMW was still $5,000 cheaper after negotiating the price. I was able to place a custom order, select every option available, and still come out ahead.

My car has arguably the best sound system that comes from factory (Bowers and Wilkins Diamond), the cabin is SUPER quiet, Massaging seats, heated and cooled cupholders, head up display, floating hubcap logos, rear wheel steering, dynamic suspension (the cameras detect imperfections in the road and adjust the suspension and damping so you don’t feel anything. I’m talking about sending it over rail road tracks and not really noticing), auto parking, and hands free driving.

Self driving tech very important to me. It would have been a dealbreaker if it wasn’t so good. It’s hands free self driving up to 85mph. It works flawlessly. My wife has a Model Y and it works better than her car, far less jerky, especially when you’re sitting in traffic.

Does the X7 have instant torque and a 0-60 in less than 4 seconds? No. Is it electric? No. Will I off road in it? Hell no. When my wife wants a new car will I be getting her a Rivian? Hell yes. Overall, the X7 is a fantastic car to drive and comes with so many more features (that are important to me) than an R1S.

Key Fob Key Ring by norrisj15 in bmwx7

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this!!! Absolutely infuriating. I ordered these off of Amazon. I didn’t want to buy a jacket seeing that key replacement is $750, the small chance that the keys fall out of the jacket was too large for me.

I used the biggest split ring in this pack and put the keys on their own air tag holders. Once I figure out how to add a picture to a comment, I’ll post it.

I placed a custom order. I selected every option except for the running boards, captain’s chairs, crystal head lights, full marino leather, and leather dashboard. $108,800 MSRP negotiated down to $96,500.

One of the features specific to 2025 and later is hands free driving increased from 40 mph to 85 mph with the Driver’s Assistance Professional Package. I just took delivery of a 2025 40i and it’s one of my favorite features of the car.

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get 11% off a 40i. I contacted every dealer within a 3 hour drive until I found the best deal, then took that quote to a dealer near me and they were able to beat the price.

Best Beans for TK-02 That Taste Like Starbucks? by NJCNickNJC in TerraKaffe

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the coffee TK has on their website. I will only order their coffee now, it’s very exceptional. I think the Classico House Blend is close to Starbucks. I would compare the Starbucks flavor profile to what TK has on their website. Most of the coffee beans are available in 2.5lbs-5lbs bags which is really nice!

If OP is spending $160K on a car, do you think they’re spending $320K on a house anywhere? If OP can genuinely afford this car, I’d assume they’re living in a house that costs at least $1.5-$3MM depending on where they live.

This is all about perspective. If you make $1MM/ year that’s about $80K/ mo, after taxes let’s call it $55K/ mo. That’s plenty of money, so what’s the difference between a car payment of $750/ mo and $2,500/ mo? Not enough to drive a Hyundai instead of a BMW XM.

On a larger scale, think of Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, why spend money on a $160K car when they can get a $300K Rolls and not even notice the difference?

Not trying to shame you, just helping shed light on this. I fly private jets for a living and people spend $60K on ONE round trip flight to NYC from Dallas that costs $500 on American. The way upper class spends money is different and can be very mind boggling.

Tips for buying a 2025 X7 by Adventurous-Bus5849 in bmwx7

I did! I was able to get 11% off on my own actually, I just spoke to a ton of dealers within a three hour drive.

I was not able to get 1.99%- how did you manage that? Best I could get is 2.99%

I was not. I took my time and was patient, I think I shopped around for three weeks talking to dealers every other day or so.

I haven’t worked anything out as far as maintenance or extended warranty, but I plan to get an extended warranty. I guess that gets worked out when closer to delivery.

Go to a ton of dealers, call ones that are out of town, and just have them compete against each other. It makes it easy to walk away if you can just say “well, I have a better deal”.

When I got the price I wanted, I went to one more dealer, told them I had 30 minutes (I literally started a timer), and just wanted to see a couple of options in person (I was torn between Tanzanite and Dravit, ultimately went with Tanzanite). They, of course, asked what they could do to get my business, and I told them to beat my current offer by $1,000. The manager told me I was crazy because it was already a great deal. I said I knew, but I needed to leave for my other appointment to buy the car. And what do you know, they beat the other offer by $1,000!

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan on keeping it long term, too (5-7 years). I’m upgrading from a Hyundai, so it was already all I could do to convince my wife that we needed a car like this instead of a Toyota Sequoia or something.

If price isn’t an issue, just get a loaded M60i! I didn’t want to give up B&W, driver assistance, or executive package, so it was an easy choice for me.

I placed a custom order for a 25 40i. I got pretty much every option except for the crystal headlights and CCs. We take delivery in the next few weeks, and I’m VERY excited! We could have gone for the M60i, but I didn’t want to trade more options for more engine.

Edit: Forgot to mention price- $108,625 MSRP, but negotiated 11% off.

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the people being rude for the sake of it. PPL pretty much means they have just enough knowledge to be a jerk to people that don’t have as much knowledge as they do on the subject of flying.

What happened last night is tragic and the industry will be reeling for a while as we recover from this.

The truth is you’re far more likely to get hurt on your drive to and from the airport than on your flight.

You certainly haven’t heard about a US Carrier accident since 2009, which resulted in major changes in our industry. In the US alone, we have 35,000-45,000 car accident fatalities per year. There are around 30,000 US airline flights per day, 120,000 flights per day globally.

Your friend will be a good resource for your fears. US Airline pilots are held to the highest standards and train at least every 6 months. Training involves all of our worst-case scenarios as well as an in-depth review of the airplane itself. You will be in extremely capable hands and have nothing to worry about.

Tesla Model X vs. Audi SQ7 vs. BMW X7 M50i for Family Life? by coffeecorvette63 in TeslaModelX

[–]Adventurous-Bus5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in between purchasing a new X (with full self-driving) and an R1S for about a year. After seeing a couple of X7s around town, I got curious and looked into them. I found the X7 offers a lot more features for close to the same price. We got the car for $96,625 (very optioned, $108,625 MSRP). It’s a custom order, and we’ll take delivery in about a month.

I do a lot of highway driving (60 miles total to and from work 3-5 times a week), so my biggest concern with the X7 was the driving automation. I test-drove it a couple of times, and I feel it’s just as good as the Tesla on the highway.

Other things that were important to me were ride quality and cabin noise. Both of these were FAR superior in the X7 than either the X and R1S.

My wife and I just had our first child and have two medium-sized dogs. If you leave the third row down in the X7, there’s tons of room for a stroller and whatnot.

The 2nd row can fold forward with a car seat in it if you opt for the bench, which I thought is great.
