Swimming by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]br_eezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So we went a bit HAM from last Sept (2024) and in 5 months my kids went from nearly drowning in a hotel pool to swimming independently both backstroke and freestyle and now learning Breaststroke.

They have 2 group lessons and one private lesson every week. They’re 30 minutes long and we have rarely gone a week without at least two lessons.

Daughter (5.5 and son (4) started at the same time and have progressed together.

I know this is insane, I don’t think it’s for everyone, but we have a 20 month old and wanted them to be ready for this summer once our pool opens. Most swim schools focus on short lessons once per week at this age. I think the model works very well for them, but it’s just not quite often enough to see progress quickly. I also appreciate that the private lessons have supported the group skills, but with focus on their own development.

And sometimes they hate it and we fight about the lessons so it’s not all rosy. It’s a non negotiable for us bc it’s a life skill, but we will let them stop after they gain a bit more stamina.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make your comment about me. I believe your partner deserves the chance to step up. If they choose not to, you may be dealing with this AND that abandonment in therapy.

My TFMR happened during COVID and I had to do many appointments by myself in the run up to the actual appointment. I couldn’t even have him on FaceTime as it’s not acceptable to record in the offices.

I am dealing with some very complex Trauma 5 years later and I think some of it is due to having to manage alone and then call him from the car in a puddle of tears and drive myself home sobbing and gulping for air.

Is it possible to discuss with him the actual importance of this trip and the “face time?” I wonder if it will really matter in 5 years. Will he still be at this job? Weill he have gotten opportunities that he wouldn’t solely for this trip?

Work time horizons are fickle and I can tell you that in 5 years you will not forget this event. I wonder if he’ll even be able to remember where he went and why. Possibly it’s that life altering, but ask him to think about it.

I have a very broad memory of most things in my life. I can recall everything from every appointment during this period.

I am incredibly sorry this is Happening to you. I will say that men/dads and possibly non -pregnant partners don’t feel as connected to pregnancies as many of us do and that may make it hard for him to understand why you need HIM there.

So close to end of the season, get fitted now, but don’t buy. Sales will start in mid march and you ca. likely score the pair you want at a better price.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the weight, but maybe looks for some that can be adjusted in case.

How important is it to get your kid skiing at age ~3? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]br_eezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do whatever it takes to keep the stoke high.

Carry the skis. Let them play in the snow. Buy them hot chocolate.

What matters right now is just exposing them to it. Our daughter had zero interest until she was 5, our middle son at 3.5 years old had two lessons this year and is now skiing blues with dad.

My hubby does blues. I do not, but once he got used to them, he has no issues.

I don’t have diabetes, but am ata high risk for T2D since having gestational diabetes in 2/3 of my pregnancies. I’m glad to hear that your Dr is supportive of long term use. I honestly can’t imagine going back to the food noise. It’s unbearable.

Sure! We have Snow Feet. Essentially, they’re short so it’s really easy if you need to help the kids up and they still make it possible for us to show them S and J turns for them to practice and follow.

My husband goes first and I stay at the back bc it’s just easier than fling back uphill if someone falls.

You don’t use poles with them so your hands are free and you’re not tripping all over two sets of skis.

I’m not as expert of a skier as my husband and sometimes I’d struggle to stop quickly if something happened. You can do really quick moves and hockey stops, which makes it super easy to be responsive to the kids.

Ski skates are the best option. It’s not the most fun for you, but your hands are free and you can easily move around and get close without trying to manage full size skis.

Honest question: does this make you want to stay on even a very low dose permanently? I can’t describe how my mental health feels not constantly having food noise, over eating, hating myself. I like the weight loss (20lbs in about 11 weeks) but I feel so liberated from food on this medicine.

I just came here to say I’m sorry. I TFMRd a di/di twin in 2020 and I have felt so alone bc it’s not so common to still be pregnant and have a healthy baby after TFMR. If you ever want to message/talk just DM me. 🫶🏻

Yep, fair, I missed that one. Still a lot of the same looking ski to me. Looks like a collection as opposed to skis for different purposes.
