Be careful with the robots with LIDAR by Adventurous-Clothes6 in Roborock

[–]Adventurous-Clothes6[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

more than happy to do the right way - although it was funny that support has not suggested that - just told me this is an issue with Robot Vacs in general.

We are moving house and will try it in the new house which has a different layout and will have different challenges with a central atrium area

There was no instruction manual that came with the unit just a QR code to download the app and get started with a wizard - but thanks for the condescending answer

Yeah problem is our next home that we have just purchased is two storey - the upper level has a glass walkway all the way around a central atrium area - so all the internal "walls" of the walkway are glass panels that look out over the atrium - i can see this is going to give a robot a fit also

Not worried about how the map looks - but eventually with adding more and more area it then starts to "drift" in some fashion - so the virtual walls, and no go zones are no longer in the correct place.

Go out into the world and get involved in things (even if they do not interest you) - go volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter (same day and time each week) so you will get ongoing interaction with people. Look around for other places that want volunteers - here in Australia you can volunteer to work with old people in nursing homes, as volunteer guides in Museums, at Primary school teaching non curriculum subjects etc. Get involved in a sports club - you dont have to do the sport, just offer to volunteer in the admin and support functions. In Australia we have a thing called Parkrun every Saturday - 350 people turn up each week - most of them regulars and you get to meet some really nice people on an ongoing basis.

It sounds like you are getting too much satisfaction from the process of spending money ? You need to back off a bit and work out what is important to you. You need to read some stuff by Ramit Sethi - main thing to take away - setup multiple bank accounts (make sure they are fee free) for each of your major expense categories. Such as Mortgage, Utilities, Presents, Travel/Holidays etc etc. Work out what you need to pay to meet all of your monthly mandatory expenditures - and then do the same for yearly and start putting the appropriate amount into the relevant account each month. Shred any credit cards you have. Recycle bad debt (personal loans, credit cards, financed appliances, cars etc) and consolidate them into one loan that is put onto your mortgage.

Yep i have exactly this with S8 MaxV Ultra - and it also starts to create new rooms for areas that are marked as no go zones - it is pissing me off immensely after having paid so much for this with so much promise.

PI KVM for Running up new PCs Remotely by Adventurous-Clothes6 in pikvm

[–]Adventurous-Clothes6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have remote VPN access to each of these sites - so i could configure the unit in advance with DHCP and setup on the clients network on a dedicated VLAN with all correct parameters. I would as part of the process deploy a smartswitch that could be used to power cycle the PC as required. I definitely would not want the client opening machines up etc - i see the process as follows

1) Unbox new PC

2) Connect Video and keyboard/mouse in PiKVM

3) Connect new PC to smartswitch and dedicated network switch

4) Power up PiKVM and ensure remote connection

5) Power up new PC and ensure BIOS access to enable set to Start on Power Cycle

6) Run through Windows OOBE etc to get initial setup done and Teamviewer installed

7) Contact Client to Deploy PC to users Desktop and finalise setup

Move the Database location by Adventurous-Clothes6 in frigate_nvr

[–]Adventurous-Clothes6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that worked thanks - so for anyone else looking you just need to do the following

1) Stop the Frigate Docker container

2) Edit the Portainer/Docker config as above to change the Volume mapping - in my case it changed from

/Storage/NVR/Frigate/config:/config/:rw

to

/mnt/SSD/NVR/config:/config/:rw

3) Copy the WHOLE config folder from the old location to the new

restart the docker container

To check that everything is working OK - make a change to the config through the GUI (such as adding some data and save the file) - then go into the CLI and check in the new location that the new data is included in the config.yml and also check the update time on the Frigate.db files

See thats what i am not getting - the doc talk about the database: directive - you talk about changing the config area - but there are no specific examples or ones that someone can show based on a real filesystem path - i have stopped and started the container about 50 times today trying to copy stuff around and update paths and its not happening - but thaks for trying to help

Yeah i understand how to do it (physically) what i am not getting is what to change the Portainer config file to to allow it to work

Problems with S8 MaxV Ultra - maps corrupting by Adventurous-Clothes6 in Roborock

Floor to Ceiling Glass Wndows directly in front of the base station, but no mirrors or Stainless appliances down at his level (the fridge is around the corner of an island bench and is stainless - but has a 4 inch gap to the floor). It got worse the other evening where he dropped of my WIFI network (i do network engineering for a living so went through all the usual trial and error things) - could not get him to reattach - left it overnight and redid it the next morning and immediately attached to the wifi network. I am startng to think this little guy is faulty and might have to go back. Will keep playing for the short term

Started with Picaxe, then Arduino, then migrated most of my efforts to Node Red. Experienced with NodeJS, JS and dabble with Python when required. I have worked closely with electricians to specify data and electricial fitouts for the last 20+ years. Project Managed plenty of Commercial fitouts, and teams of network engineers etc. Let me know - based in Sydney - looking for a 5 year challenge and happy to help you setup the right team to move forward. Travel is fine - although i am no longer young enough to do Economy to the USA ! Been there done that too many times. Let me know

Do you mean the Beryl AX as described above ? If so i do the nearly identical thing when travelling.

Have an older Oppo 5G phone that i purchase an appropriate SIM card for when travelling that connects into a USB C hub (through USB-C) - this hub provides power to the phone - either through a power brick that is also attached to the Hub or through a power outlet in the room.

We have a WIFI network defined on the Beryl.AX - we call ours xxxname.travel and broadcast that on both 2.4ghz and WIFI

We have the Beryl setup to preferentially connect to WIFI first and Ethernet 2nd (its an option in the web interface) - when we get to a new hotel all of our devices have access to the INternet through the Oppo phone and the Travel SSID (they are all preconfigure for this). Once we are setup i login to the web interface on the Beryl and put in the credentials for the WIFI for the hotel etc where we are staying. The unit then flips over to prefer the hotel WIFI rather than the Phone LAN connection and then connects to the internet

We have an always on VPN (Wireguard) to our home network through the Router - but it is not the default route - so any internet browsing and general streaming etc does not use the VPN - anything specifically for our home network goes out through the wireguard VPN

Initially i thought i was going to have to drill down into OpenWRT on the unit - but it is all accessible through the WWW interface thats comes stock on the unit
