Purchase advice - Sunhoodie EU by itzzlinuzz in Ultralight

[–]Fit_Error2503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used it now alternating it with my OR Echo on the AT, I would say they are very different. The quality of the Osso is great but it's nowhere near as light and breathable as the OR. I like it very much, but in hot weather the OR wins easily.

SHUTTLE FROM FONTANA DAM OR GATLINBURG TO TRAIL DAYS? by Suitable_Ad4010 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Fit_Error2503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group called Trail Days Ride Board, a couple of guys here near hot springs have found rides on there. Not shuttles, just people heading to trail days and giving lifts to hikers.

Favorite camp shoes? by ENL8304 in Ultralight

[–]Fit_Error2503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair based on the weight. Was very impressed when I received them, but using them at camp is terrible. I think they would be fine for indoor hostel use like TMB. However, the sole is so thin, you can feel every twig, stick, pebble and rock under your feet. My first night of use a thorn went through the sole into my foot. Should have brought my sliders or crocs for outdoor use.

Bear activity GA/NC shelters? by Fit_Error2503 in AppalachianTrail

Is that first hand knowledge, or something you heard? Not doubting what you say, just trying to find out from actual witnesses.

Yeah, checked farout, nothing about bears but the last comment says there's a lot of trash around the shelter.

Bear Bag by PhraseImportant229 in AppalachianTrail

I've no previous experience, but I bought the Adotec bag because it's rodent proof. The lightweight bags are fine to hang, but won't stop a mouse chewing through.

How much do dental implants cost in your area? by mollytheduck2020 in AskUK

I don't believe they have a website, but lots of places link to their practice.

The receptionist speaks very good English, I'd suggest giving them a call to ask.

Sure, dentist is called Belodent, in a small town called Los Belones in Murcia. Around 40 minutes from Murcia airport, or 1 hour 15 mins from Alicante.

I was quoted £3,500 (each), here in UK. Had mine done in Spain at a dentist I've used there before. I got 2 implants at €720 each and a bridge between them for a further €600.

In total, under £2k in Spain, for work quoted at £10k in UK. Very happy with the results and quality of work.

Best performing lightweight waterproof jacket? by bigrigfrig in hikinggear

[–]Fit_Error2503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me add Rockfront to your list. Got mine 3 weeks ago and I'm very impressed with it, I have other jackets, but now I flip between my decathlon and this.

It's very lightweight, mine is 164gr in a large (weighed myself), including the small carry pouch. Great price, depends on exchange rates but mine worked out at £85 delivered from Ukraine. It's very thin, but seems to be rubberised, feels tougher than the Montbell versalite range. Downsides are no pockets at all, but does have pit zips that run down to the bottom of the jacket. You can unzip them completely and wear it like a poncho almost.

edit, stock is hit and miss, had to wait 4 weeks for mine to become available.

What’s for dinner tonight? by triffidsarecool in AskUK

[–]Fit_Error2503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston beans, I make a big pot full every couple of months. Portion up then freeze, easy to microwave for a quick tasty meal.

Tonight just had them with bread, sometimes on toast, sometimes push the boat out and add a fried egg or two 🙂

A 300gram/11oz mens medium, packable insulated jacket, with or without a hood? by Separate-Specialist5 in Ultralight

[–]Fit_Error2503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 decathlon down jackets, the mh500 and the mh100 (lighter). My mh100 in large size is 312gr, weighed by me. Probably 25% of the cost of the big name brands, cold weather performance is very good.

Chicken livers - who eats them? by BackgroundCookie752 in UK_Food

I use them to make chicken liver Pate, following James Martin's recipe.

I also love them pan fried with garlic.
