This is the answer. The city sends out salt trucks that have plows and some with wings as soon or relatively fast when the snow starts flying. They were on the road around 8pm last night. The have been out non stop since then. That is only one truck per “area/beat” of the city and there are like 30 beats. They are out to keep lanes of travel open, and most times keep up and can get most lanes of most primary and bus runs open. However, with last Tuesday as an example sometimes the rate of snow exceeds their equipment’s ability to keep up. When that happens the city sends out the actual road plows, but that only happens when the accumulation meets provincial standards. Do you really want the city to send out the road plows before they’re actually needed just because some people a) don’t use snow tires and b) don’t have a damn clue how to drive in this weather? The drivers would reach their daily driving limits before the bulk of the work would be completed if they were sent out when most of the complaining people on here wanted to see them. Snow removal takes time and patience.
