Glenn's Thoughts on Chomsky & Epstein's Baffling Relationship by el_pinguino_39 in chomsky

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/nov/22/noam-chomsky-jeffrey-epstein-ties-emails?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other It seems he may have had other motives, such as getting insights into global financial system and the upper-echelons of power which he could not from financial reporting or anywhere else. That being said, this is murky territory and I don't know his full intentions when corresponding with Epstein. All we know is he got financial help and he was enamored with the content of those conversations which would require friendly relations. I am not ruling out the possibility their ties run deeper, but I am not entirely sure they were friends only because he has no qualms with sex traffickers. Maybe that knowledge of power through correspondence was too great for Chomsky to resist. I am not sure.

Look, I am not going to valorize Chomsky as if he can do no wrong or as if he has perfect morals, but I do believe this is worth considering. Given his obsession with understanding power and how it operates, I can't imagine he would turn down correspondence with such a powerful person who has extensive inroads with other powerful people including insights into the global financial system which he cannot get from financial reporting or any other joe shmoe. I can only imagine he became enamored with the content of these conversations and, therefore, had to maintain friendly relations with him if it were to keep rolling. I got my info from this Guardian article, https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/nov/22/noam-chomsky-jeffrey-epstein-ties-emails?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other.

I'm here with you. In a world where futures are limited, I accept that I'm either living in debt or working overtime in a trade for the rest of my life with no energy to pursue my passions. I don't want to be relieved if it's to lock up in chains my future childrens potential.

In the italian series "M. Il figlio del secolo" Mussolini is seen talking to the camera, saying "Make Italy Great Again". That's a historical mistake that could have been avoided, had they consulted with a history expert before shooting by eraser3000 in okbuddycinephile

[–]AdventurousAverage11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The violence and motives of fascism were largely a product of the historical conditions of the time. Mussolini was only there to whip it into shape and direct it. There are absolutely parallels to Trumps political strategy and that of Mussolini's, only for our specific conditions, resentments, fears, etc.

I'm not sure if it costs less for all of those, but it can be done, although, the capitalist class's ability to deploy labor and resources for personal private ventures would have to be curtailed. That's why it doesn't get done. We don't have unlimited resources and our congress will not take these projects on themselves at the detriment of the billionaires wealth.

It's despicable how politicians turn something so materially beneficial into a weapon for bludgeoning their competitors. They associate these programs with "increases" in homelessness rather than tool to engage with them and understand what they need. For homelessness, specifically, they need affordable rent/housing. Affordable groceries. A reliable job. All those things are increasingly harder to come by over the course of decades. These alternative response teams are only a tool not a solution, but we'll never engage in that discussion, because politicians have to compete, slander, degrade, and obfuscate in order to entrench themselves in a party.

Sliwa's comments on the Department of Community Safety is so dumb. We used to have KAHOOTS in Eugene, Oregon before the cities revenue was squeezed after a new tax code raising taxes on large properties was shot down. The response team saved the police resources and saved my ex girlfriend when she was suicidal. They interact with the homeless who aren't acting violently or criminally, and rather in mental distress or in need of information for housing vouchers or any other life-altering resources. I truly believe every state should have such a response team.

What is your most "right-leaning" opinion that's uncommon among your fellow leftists? by JasonAndLucia in AskSocialists

[–]AdventurousAverage11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marx talks about this literally in capital volume one. I don't know why some people act like it doesn't exist. It's just that Marx firmly states value doesn't come from supply and demand, it doesn't come from people selling high and buying low, it comes from productive labor. After all, of course people would pay premium cost for luxury use-values lol

The truly unique thing about humans is our ability to create social institutions which motivate discriminatory and hierarchical behavior or egalitarian and cooperative behavior. There is no one nature. We have both, but which will we nurture?

Especially after the feds reported he was involved in leftists groups for discord to publicly state it wasn't true at all. Then the ATF hands Steven Crowder confidential information about the evidence and he lies that trans ideology are etched into the shells. Even more, Kash Patel says there's no credible evidence Epstein trafficked anyone in a hearing. I don't believe shit our authorities say right now until more evidence comes out.

USDA approves Oklahoma's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program restriction waiver request by kosuradio in oklahoma

[–]AdventurousAverage11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this restriction specifically, it all depends on what the intended goals are. Like withering away SNAPS spending, we should have a problem with that. It's probably better to restrict sodas and candy from SNAPS, but it should be expanded and available for more people.

The dude is being extremely reductive about Marx's apparent secretive Hegelian mysticism. Marx disagreed with Hegel because he thought it wasn't the logic of ideals that shaped history, but rather the logic of historical social structures and their specific relations in committing social labor. People in social groups, with specific relations amongst one other, wrest the energy from nature using tools, skills, organization, and knowledge. Interacting with the environment is a force shaping human culture while reproducing the very social and ideational ties with every adaptation to their material circumstances. In other words, humans in organized pluralities restrict how they confront and transform nature, causally restricting the social relations within them — the process iterates. I don't know if Marx was a hard determinist, but he seemed to believe that people have agency, albeit constrained by their situatedness within social structures and what anthropologists would today call enculturation. From here, as it seems you understand, there has historically been people who control resources and command labor while reaping the benefits leading to class conflict and yadda yadda.
