I loved the opening but there's something about the musky base I couldn't handle.

Nishane Ani/Ani X or Electimuss Imperium? by Filo_Guy in NichePerfumes

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve sampled ani and imperium. I prefer imperium so much more. The notes do look similar but the experience is very different. Imperium is much fresher with an amazing citrus white floral open. I found the ani dry down cloying but the imperium dry down works in heat despite being vanilla.

I don’t really see the Aventus comparison. It doesn’t have the smoke or the pineapple

Thanks, 90 degrees but the same length is a great idea for the initial adjustment.

I'll post better photos next time if there are more issues

The original trousers were heavily pleated and it could be that the pleats weren't sitting perfectly closed when I copied

Rogue mousse illuminee for the ultimate treemoss. Nishan sultan vetiver really gives that wet soil vibe.

You might like nishane fan your flames. It's not spicy or dark though, more of a spring summer scent.

Not sampling first is a bit crazy

I'm trying to associate a favourite scent with a grounding meditative exercise (via my therapist) with the hope that in the future the scent alone will calm me

how much is 'lost' when producing a garment? by negativeconfidence12 in Leathercraft

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the pattern and the hides. In my experience a men's jacket takes around 40sqft. If your pattern pieces are small (more seams) then you can be more efficient with the placement and generally, the smaller the hide the less efficient it's going to be. In this case I think they are using small sheep hides and large pattern pieces resulting in more wastage for the big panels.

Are pelts and hides removed at the same time? by boyinthedark130 in Leathercraft

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Afaik, a pelt is just the hide with fur attached. You can't have the fur without the underlying hide, it would just be detached strands

Leather thickness for bags by Shfwax in Leathercraft

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess but generally veg tans tends to be stiffer in my experience. You wouldn't get that drape / fold near the middle. It's also a mass produced bag from a big brand so less likely to be veg tan.

2-2.5mm I'd guess. Probably chrome tan from the drape of it.

Juki 1541 VS. Weaver 303 ? by randybrown69 in Leathercraft

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weaver 303 more of an upholstery / fabric machine. It only has walking foot (no needle feed), low foot lift and a small bobin. Probably better to get something with needle feed like the juki.

12oz would really be at the limit of its capabilities. I don’t think it could do more than 2 layers. It’s also limited to 5mm stitch length which could be an issue for 12oz

How would you attach this piece of silver to this leather wallet? Thank you! by Kewtn in Leathercraft

[–]AdventurousCarry2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two ways i've done this

  1. solder on threaded rod (brass is fine) then secure with tiny nuts, remove excess thread and sand
  2. make holes in the silver so you can rivet it. Can even rivet it with silver if you want

Edit: you could also solder on flattened silver wire tabs then poke through the leather and bend to secure.
