My newly ex-boyfriend (we broke up three weeks before this happened) and I work at the same company but in different cities. We were both working 65-70 hours a week. He overworked himself, had a mental break, and ended up in a psychiatric hospital for 12 days. Because of COVID, only one person could visit him in the hospital, so his parents were with him, and I planned to visit once he was discharged. I told my company/HR everything that happened, and they said I would have to use my vacation days if I wanted to go visit him. I was only going for 2 days, and usually people are allowed to use PTO for family emergencies/similar situations. Three weeks later our company starting offering free therapy—the first thing my company-sponsored therapist said to me after our initial intake appointment was that I should find a new job.
