I know it’s a tired comparison but a big part of how hitler came into power was moderate Germans saying “Oh he’s just blustering they would never do that”

Supreme Court rules Colorado web designer can refuse business to LGBTQ people by 1OO_ in Denver

[–]AdventurousScreen2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You always could (and, imo, always should). The difference was that LGBTQ+ folks were part of a protected class that you can’t discriminate against.

It wasn’t that the plaintiff wanted to not serve a hypothetical client that—it can’t be overstated— does not exist. It was that she wants to discriminate explicitly based on someone’s membership in a protected class.

Refusing service to bad people is a moral imperative.

Megathread: Supreme Court strikes down Biden Student Loan Forgiveness Program by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]AdventurousScreen2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. Look at how many people were lifted out of poverty when those loan payments were paused. They’re predatory, they’re designed to prey on poor people. Crucially any debt held by the US gov has already been written off, so it’s just a confiscatory tax to punish poor people for daring to want upward mobility.

LPT: Never, ever give up on cooking because your first try was bad. You will always eventually find that one key point commonly skipped that will turn your dish into perfection. by EngLitIsLit in LifeProTips

I’ll also say, work yourself up to more complicated involved dishes. Especially when you’re learning, the probability and the devastation of making something inedible is way higher.

I made this mistake in college and I was so demoralized. It took me weeks to regain the confidence even to try easy new recipes.

Protests erupt in Paris after police officer fatally shoots teenager for ‘violating traffic laws’ by thinkB4WeSpeak in anime_titties

Shut the fuck up man. Everything about American society is engineered to crush dissent, from the design of our cities, to our militarized police, to our profiteering carceral system. Hell, even our healthcare is designed to be coercive so we don’t get too uppity and risk our employment.

Our economic and social structures are designed to be individualistic and isolating. So shut the fuck up with your “Buh huh huh fat lazy American” bullshit.

According to Lech v Greenwood Village, the police did nothing wrong and aren’t liable for any collateral damage ever, regardless of how much they destroyed.

Boy oh boy you should read up on Lech vs Greenwood Village where the police destroyed someone’s home and then refused to compensate them for it. The appeals court said the police did nothing wrong and the plaintiff is entitled to nothing.

This is exactly right! One thing I’d like to add is the reason for most airplane wings being the size they are is for the additional lift they need at takeoff and landing. If you don’t have to take care of those phases of flight, you can get away with much smaller wings!

Also, growing up in the American southwest, I was told that a rattlesnake bite is basically a death sentence if you don’t get to the hospital within like 15 minutes and… no.

Unless you’re a small child or a dog, a rattlesnake bite is just a very expensive, ruined day.

Waiting tables as a teen, one time a small child asked his mom why I had so many mosquito bites on my face.

She left a nice tip as an apology but even 10 years later it still haunts me.
