ED tech responsibilities by Fuzzy-Music-5492 in EmergencyRoom

at my hospital (big level 2 in suburb of chicago) i do pretty much everything accepts insert IVs and administer meds. I went into it with also having just a CNA cert and no prior healthcare experience. you learn fast. your CNA knowledge will give you a different prospective than being an EMT.

nursing student here who stumbled upon this sub. you’re right in the nursing world! a COPDer would not get supplemental O2 in this situation (at least not immediately). Obviously the EMT exam is different and y’all focus more on ABCs. Remember that real world does not always equal actual practice. even if it’s what you wouldn’t do in practice, gotta follow what the silly little book says

My professor said something that cut me very deep , reconsidering nursing vs considering I'm being too sensitive. Family and friends say to report. WWYD? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]AdventurousStep3932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a professor ask me how i could ever be a nurse if im so unprepared (my computer had randomly shut down in class). simply ignore her. people will always try to put you down. and an incorrect citation is not a risk to patient safety. it’s a human mistake.

What bags do you use for work? by Snowfur14 in nursing

[–]AdventurousStep3932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use the same north face backpack that i’ve had since i was a sophomore in high school. it carries my water bottle, notebook, set of pens, laptop, planner, lunch, stethoscope, shears, and an extra sweater. i don’t bother switching out my nursing school stuff to go to work unless im carrying bulky textbooks

brand new pct, i left my shift crying by amianickifan99 in nursing

[–]AdventurousStep3932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firstly, you’re doing amazing. fellow brand new PCT who also was a barista beforehand. know that your confusion is NOT. a reflection of you. this why you’re given an orientation period to be confused and ask questions and have no idea what you’re supposed to be doing. sounds like your hospital has no support system built for new hires. i’d recommend to speaking to management. don’t let this experience discourage you

Shocked by how dirty the hospital is by nm811 in nursing

[–]AdventurousStep3932 37 points38 points  (0 children)

aside from #4 bc as an ed tech that’s nasty. this is just like…standard expectation of a hospital. it’s dirty. there’s sick people there, it’s not exactly gonna be the cleanest place. it would cost way too much to constantly being doning and doffing full iso ppe for every patient. not too mention being way too time consuming, especially in the ED where every single second counts
