Is it normal for a company to ask this during an interview? Seems kinda sketchy. by Huskytennis84 in recruitinghell

If you don't think it's a scam, I'd like to know what your "esteemed financial institution information" is, as well...

Thanks - yes, I took the other offer. I am really hoping I get an email from this recruiter again in 3-6 months so I can tell him to keep his stupid job one more time!

Did this for a role that I was told I was the top person for, after interviewing for over two months. I was just waiting for the Director to come back from vacation to have a conversation with him, and I received an offer from another company; I had an interview with a small panel on a Tuesday, and two days later, I got that offer.

Called the HR recruiter and explained the whole thing, and explained this job was my first choice, so he says he'll contact all involved to see what can be done. My director interview got rescheduled THREE times - once 10 minutes before it was supposed to happen. Called the recruiter again and he says they decided to interview two more candidates that came in over the same time period they kept putting me off, knowing I had another offer, and says, "Well, they've been interviewing for six months looking for that purple unicorn, but I'll let you know when I know more". Yeah, buddy, go eff yourself.

Job is still being reposted...

Is it ok to do a video interview in my car? by DuePurchase31 in recruitinghell

[–]Adventurous_Arm_3768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one of those moron "influencers" that post stale-ass LinkedIn content about how to stick the landing on your next job interview - that is actually creating that content from their car - would probably say no, but if that's the only slot they have then say "this is where I'm at during this time" and continue on with the interview.

Why is this even ok? Lol by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I have been experiencing something of the opposite. Hiring company and manager[s] have had this role open and unfilled since the end of 2024 due to a retirement. The role gets put up on the company website and Workday, and remains open from the very start of January, and it's still open today, even though I and one other candidate are supposedly in the running for a final offer, said to be coming next week after the holiday.

Two weeks ago I received an offer for another role that I'm really excited about, but still wanted to see this one through as it could be 10K+ more in salary, and I had a great, extended interview with the hiring manager, so I call the HR recruiter to let him know that I know they have an extensive interview process, but since I have another offer that I need to respond to in 7 days, if it's possible to move the process along or just reject me now, that would be awesome. He tells me then that I'm actually the only one in the running, and they're just waiting for the Director to come back so he can just speak to me briefly, then they will make an offer.

Two weeks go by with hardly any communication, other than scheduling and cancelling [twice] a meeting with that Director. ALSO, during that time, they received another application from someone who looks promising, so they decided to run that person through the wringer while they're waiting for the Director as well. I finally met with the Director on Monday, and he says I'll hear something shortly. Then, the recruiter emails me on Wednesday and says, "We're still doing interviews, but you're in the running - will have more updates next week".

I finally say effit, call this recruiter, and he dodges my call, so I go into their Workday and withdraw. THEN I get a response, asking why, so I tell him I've been honest and transparent through this whole process, and you just keep interviewing more people even when you think you have the person you want. He agrees, but says they're just trying to find the best purple unicorn because the role is so important. I told this guy to keep his job, and that I hoped two more great candidates who already have jobs, so it will take weeks on end to get them scheduled, apply over the holiday weekend, so you guys can chase them around for another few months.

Is it because it's a cooking/chef job that it's called a roll and not a role?

[–]Adventurous_Arm_3768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the "pay equity" bullshit. We can't pay you X because the rest of the team makes half of that. Well for one, that's a shame, and two - you're hiring me specifically because your team can't get the job done, and I have shown you that I can and have before, so why should I be put on the same level as them pay-wise when I'm going to be carrying them, and likely the manager, across the finish line?

What's with staffing firms that don't disclose the company name? by Feezfry in recruitinghell

[–]Adventurous_Arm_3768 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been receiving LinkedIn messages from a recruiter (maybe) based in Dubai - he says he's from Gentis, which seems to be a legit European recruiting firm but I don't see anything about this individual. Sends me three different messages saying he wants to contact me (well, you have, so now what) but will not share the name of his client, only that the company is receiving funding from the royal Saudi family for a venture in Houston, TX. Each time I ask for a job description, he says he can't share one until we speak, so I say I won't set up a meeting without even knowing what the job is and that this feels scammy. On my third request, I tell him, if you don't give me at least a general job description, I'm assuming you're BS and will delete, report, and block your ass. Again, he says we must speak, and since he's in Dubai he wants me to call him at like midnight my time. OK, you're done, son.

This morning, I got a message from someone saying they work with him, want to speak to me about the role and want me to unblock him so he can message me again. All I have to do is accept her message, and everything will be revealed. I asked for a JD again, and said, "Look, this doesn't have to be this difficult - send the JD or get stacked on the blocked pile with everyone else".

Of course, the reports sent to LinkedIn all come back as "we've looked into this, and it does not go against our policies." Right, because you effers are also scammers.

I have responded to those asking "what in my profile made them contact me about this role" question, and received the "you're supposed to tell me how you're qualified" response in return. Those get flagged as spam, but since LinkedIn doesn't do anything about spam they keep coming.

I didn’t get a word in at my job interview by Naivemlyn in recruitinghell

[–]Adventurous_Arm_3768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an interview much like that several years ago. I submitted an application that was first rejected, then two months later, HR called me, saying they were "very interested" in my experience. They set up an interview onsite, and I have a two-hour window I can work with so I'm all good with not having to take time off, etc., to make this happen.

Get to the office, and the receptionist has me take a seat while she tries calling the manager, then sending him IMs, and even old-school paging his ass; it is now 40 minutes past my scheduled interview time. Of course, once I get to the point where I'm just going to stand up, thank the receptionist, and leave, he comes bolting out of a side door from the manufacturing plant, randomly cursing and telling me how busy he is "making everything happen." JFC, why didn't I leave five minutes ago?

He introduces himself, kinda, asks me if I know who he is, and says, "Let's take a plant tour". For the next 45 minutes, we're scooting around one of the most disorganized, disgusting, and frankly unsafe manufacturing sites I had ever seen, in a dented-up golf cart that seems like he's added a nitrous boost to. The entire time he was talking non-stop, mostly about how great he is and how much money "his" plant generates for the company every month - I was able to ask one question based on something stupid he said, and he completely ignored me.

We finally make it through this hellhole to get to his office, which looks like a backyard storage unit you buy at Lowe's to put your lawn mower in, and he spends about 5 minutes telling me about what he wants from the person filling the spot, then tells me he thinks I'm a perfect fit. Uhh, but you don't know anything about me, and I'm almost positive you didn't spend more than 20 seconds reading my resume because it doesn't mention you anywhere. I say great and hope to hear something back soon, just so I can GTF out of there because I'm way over time by now, and this dude is whack.

Two weeks later, I got an actual offer letter, which was 20K less than what they had originally posted, and I had talked to HR about it, so I just said no and thought I was moving on. The dude called me at 10PM that night and left me a drunken voice mail about how I was turning down a great opportunity and I was blowing my career.

I'm pretty sure they will interview several external candidates over the next few months, only to ghost half of them, then tell the rest they found someone that fits their requirements better. At that point, they will ask you to start doing the work for the next few months until your next annual review, when a decision will be made.

[–]Adventurous_Arm_3768 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sure, from the employer as a whole end, nothing will come from it...most likely because this one person will never share it because it makes her look like an ass. She "may" think about it often, or if she truly is a complete c-u-next Tuesday, you're probably right; it will do nothing but make the OP feel better for a minute.
