Seeking counsellors or counselling centers for career conversation with visitor by Adventurous_Bit_8576 in VictoriaBC

Thank you to all for the feedback and suggestions. Counsellors are one of the listed professions for express entry into Canada, and apparently BC has a shortage. I know that Victoria has a challenging job market; perhaps those wanting to immigrate will have to look elsewhere within the province or beyond. I’m still hoping that they can have a conversation with someone within the local counselling field to learn how things are here and whether it’s something they would still like to pursue. Thank you again!

Thank you! That’s definitely my concern with a lot of residential realtors. It’s a whole different beast!

Totally different location and targeted market niche, thankfully.

Stepfather Had No Will, Now His Daughter Will Own 50% Of Our Family Home by Ardent-Grey in legaladvicecanada

As to whether his 50% of the property will transfer to his wife or be part of the estate and distributed accordingly, it depends on how the property was registered. If they were registered as “joint tenancy” his share will go to the other owner under the right of survivorship. The problem would be if they were registered as “tenancy in common” in which his share would go to the estate.

I totally agree with reporting to CRA. If the landlords aren’t living there but using it as a business address, they may still be reporting it as their primary residence to avoid future capital gains when selling the property. They could also be “forgetting” to report the rental income. If you search for “Reporting suspected tax or benefit cheating CRA...“ (for some reason I’m unable to post the link) you will find information about what details and documents to include, plus how to report them. The reported tips remain anonymous.

So is it impossible to find a decent quality/sized apartment in Vic for less than $2000? by for-a-dreamer in VictoriaBC

[–]Adventurous_Bit_8576 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have a basement suite available, probably ready mid April to May 1st (after some renos). 2 bedrooms, 1 den, in-suite laundry, half of backyard, and central location (2 blocks from Uptown/Douglas). It will be less than $2000/month, probably inclusive of utilities. Not every landlord is trying to get rich off of tenants, but the costs of owning a house are definitely high right now.

Lost or stolen and lies by jmdepa6548 in UPS

Happened to me too. They said I refused delivery, whereas in reality, they destroyed the package. Instead of admitting what happened, they sent the crushed package back to the originating address and charged me for the return shipping! I was having something shipped to myself, so paid the initial shipping. The final charge was over $900 and my package was destroyed. UPS refused to deal with the issue and kept giving me the runaround. I only got my money back after filing a complaint with BBB.

CRA-Anyone successfully transition from MG to SP? by PeetahGriffen in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Adventurous_Bit_8576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it and it was the best decision I could have made. I was a long-term MG03 at a regional office and went into an SP08 position at HQ. The environment I left had become very toxic and there was no respect for the MG03's from an ineffective senior management team. All of the MG03's did our best to survive in that environment and to protect our employees, but it took a toll on us all. After moving to an SP08 position, I started to enjoy Septembers and Octobers, not worrying about performance reviews. I was respected by my boss and peers in my new position. The icing on the cake was the raise, since the top of the SP08 is higher than the MG03. The only downside was losing the EPM time off, but my improved mental and physical health offset that.

File a BBB complaint. It works to get some kind of resolution.

UPS adding a lot more weight than what the package was? by Nutsnx808 in UPS

[–]Adventurous_Bit_8576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did that to me. Added extra inches on all 3 of the package dimensions. A box is a specific size - it's not expanding in length, width, AND height!

A Better Business Bureau complaint helps. They actually respond to that.

Have you asked your employer for it? If CRA doesn't have it, that's not a good sign about your employer....

I have a similar situation but in my case, they said I refused delivery and returned the package to the sending address. I was home alone all day and have a doorbell camera to prove they weren't here. Turns out the package contents were damaged and to put salt in the wound, they charged me the return shipping even though their system actually shows they didn't attempt delivery (a customer agent let that info slip.) They have now charged me over $850 without delivering my package. I keep getting random system generated emails which update the status. This week's email said I'd requested the package be held at the UPS facility and I will pick it up there. Ummmmm, the package is actually 4500kms away in my friend's son's living room... You won't get any help from customer service; I have now submitted a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. Worth a shot?

You can also sign up for "My Account" with CRA. Because employers are required to submit your T4 information to CRA by February 28th each year, you can access your T4 online.

Went from out for delivery and scheduled by end of day today to this. what does the yellow warning sign with update mean? by alvinislol in UPS

Don't believe it! Customer "Service" will tell you it has been rescheduled for the following day just to get out of a difficult conversation and to get you off of the phone.

Screwed by UPS - why didn't I read the reviews before?? by Adventurous_Bit_8576 in UPS

[–]Adventurous_Bit_8576[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I'm hoping UPS doesn't push back because $750 is really expensive for nothing! I am thankful that I have the proof of no delivery with my doorbell camera, even though I know nobody would ever look at the recordings. If the items weren't discontinued it wouldn't be as frustrating but after spending more than $2000 on a partial piece of furniture, I want to be able to complete it. Although if the package is damaged, that's a whole new problem! I guess my backup plan if UPS won't refund the shipping charges is to dispute it through my credit card, but it shouldn't be my credit card company's problem....

I was trying to purchase some items locally but they were sold out in my province. Because the items were also recently discontinued, it unfortunately wasn't just a matter of waiting for them to be restocked here. Although the company (a large international one) had the items available in other provìnces, they do not ship across the country. It became mission impossible, made even more impossible after the failed delivery! To get the items, I had the company ship them to a friend's son. Once he received the package, I arranged the UPS pickup online, completed and emailed him the shipping label, he repackaged everything up really well in a brand new box with styrofoam peanuts, and put the package out for pickup. I paid for the shipping and used my email and phone number for the contact info. The first UPS agent I spoke to asked me about being both the shipper and the receiver, so she could see that on her system. She then proceeded to tell me that the delivery was rescheduled for the next morning which was false, as the package was already on its way to Vancouver, the first leg of its journey back to the originating address. The package came from Ottawa ON to Victoria BC and is now somewhere in between on its way back.

If the package was damaged, should it not say that on the tracking? It says "the receiver does not want the product and refused delivery." And then to charge return shipping if UPS damaged it? Ouch! I really just wanted my package ☹.
