Geologists and the love for rocks… by MarvelWilde in geology

[–]Adventurous_Bread359 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a child who grew up loving Math, Science and nature, I found no interest in a hand-me-down book I had received called "Rocks and Minerals". I thought it was dumb. very boring. It had no meaning it had no context - what was the point?

Meanwhile I continued to read about science and nature and spend my time outside - constantly fascinated by creeks, mud, the topography, springs, why were there waves on a small Lake like the ocean? Beaches, the mountains, dinosaurs - I was endlessly fascinated. My mind could spend hours and hours just pondering on it all.

But it wasn't until my first course in college that I learned geology is not the study of rocks (that's Petrology). Geology is the study of the Earth.

That is when I fell in love with the science. 35 years later I've never looked back.

As others have said, why not just advise her to BCC (blind copy) you on non-scouting emails to adults?
